My fffc: I still don't get the big deal about pouring soap or throwing out some cake so that you don't eat more of it. I eat cake or something else every so often but I try not to eat it daily. Sometimes I take what I don't eat and put it in the freezer for next time. Other times I throw it out bc I don't want to eat it every day. I don't see why that is such a big deal?
Similarly I love broccoli but it makes me gassy. There are times I have it for dinner and then my stomach hurts so I throw the rest away. Other times I throw it in the freezer and use it some other time.
I'm totally with you except for the "Pouring Soap". Just don't understand this at all. Just throw it out.
The thing is, though, that if you don't have the will power/have an eating disorder***, it sometimes takes destroying the food to keep yourself from eating it. It's not as simple as just throwing it out. This is something I've done in the past. I had to do it to keep myself from binging/digging something out of the trash to eat it. I'm not proud of it and I'm in no way saying it's healthy, but it's definitely not simple.
***I am in no way implying that the person on this board who admitted to doing this has an eating disorder.
@valstulas big hugs. I think the toughest situation I will face as a parent (or one of the toughest ones) is watching your kid struggle and feeling helpless. You are a great mama and he is a good kid. You are a great advocate and caretaker for him. Poor kid got a crappy hand as a father but you more than make up for it.
@ncchnat sorry people PMd you nasty things. Abortion is a part of life and I have learned so much from people by having open and honest conversations about it.
@fklang I'm sorry. It's such an awful word that he used. I'm so ashamed and embarrassed that he could even say such a thing. I hope I didn't hurt you by posting about it and I really hope that no ever says such an ugly thing to your precious little ones.
No apologies @valstulas. I absolutely was not hurt by your posting it. I understand our kids don't always represent what we teach them. My DS1 was a doozy and I went through similar issues with him. No sorry needed, I'm sure you handled it well. Hang in there, it can be frustrating.
Also @valstulas My DS1 had and IEP in school, meds and counseling. I thought I would be visiting him in jail. Now at almost 21, he's very well adjusted and doing well. Hang in there and finish teaching him well, it'll get better.
My FFFC: I don't feel like I know what people mean when they say someone is being "passive aggressive." The Wikipedia article on Passive Aggressive Behavior is interesting (link), but doesn't really help my understanding of the concept in action.
I suppose I should have taken a the psychology class instead of the sociology class with my major in undergrad.
Anyway I have a lame/gross fffc. The last few nights I have been so tired by the time I get off work that all I want to do is go to bed and not shower. So instead I've been taking baby wipe baths.
Not to be sunshine and rainbows, but I was telling a girl who was expecting that the forums were one of the best things that has helped through pregnancy and post-partum. I would seriously miss the board if there was an implosion and I really think everyone needs to drink a latte or whatever and calm down.

I kind of love Dr. Phil. He calls people the fuck out.

When I did the research a majority of women are disordered eaters. However, don't think @mystererae knows she is giving information to promote disordered eating habits.

Didn't tell anyone to put soap in anything. Nice try though
Quick let's all argue the same issues over and over again!

Ps: I'm trying to help you. Sorry. This wasn't an argument. Sharing information. Please take it as that.

Read it first then speak.
I read them both. Very interesting stuff. Certainly most people I know are disordered eaters based on this.
Like the entire vegetarian community for eliminating meat for non religious reasons.
Or anyone with food sensitivities. They don't have religious reasons for cutting food groups either.
Dunno, I just don't take it upon me to help show them the error of their ways.
@lancomechica I'm not saying disordered eating isn't serious just amused by the oversight of medical reasons in the article. Also wondering if it's really fair to say a vegetarian motivated by health reasons is disordered.
They did mention religious reasons. This information is more meant for the mainstream not for those with celiac disease who need to restrict gluten or any other disease state that may require restriction. This is meant for people like us. I didn't read into it the way you did re: vegetarianism...mine was more on the no carbs, no sugar thing. And yes I do agree with you that disordered eating is really pervasive and many folks have this issue everyday and some only a little. Just shedding light
I have a gross, true FFFC. We only have one toilet. We have an old ass house with old ass plumbing and nothing is an easy fix. Our toilet has been broken for the past five hours. I just peed in the tub. I didnt know what else to do.

Do what you gotta do. We all pee in the shower right? No difference. Especially when the toilet is broken.
@missymr personally... I see the intentional destruction of the food as what is a disordered eating behavior.
Simply putting a napkin on top to me tells the server you are done or allows you time to digest and go back for more if you are still hungry.
I think it's like war with the food...for that moment you put soap on it or windex it...you are in control of the food and the food will not "hurt" you. (I.e. make you gain weight).
Also...let me say...I am not perfect...not by any stretch...but I do know a lot of the literature on the topic. Mostly with women in our age range.
@mystereae giving up all dairy without intolerance is silly to me, same with adoption of gluten free diets without a diagnosis of celiac or confirmed intolerance.
The motivator is usually "detox" or weight loss. Which could be considered disordered behavior.
I was a vegetarian for 9 years and I did have extremely disordered eating habits and they just led to weight gain actually.
Not until I got of the vegetarian diet and made the choice to journal my food and understand my choices better did I succeed. I still ate tacos and pizza but in moderation. I had beer and wine again, in moderation. All major food groups were covered. Dairy and carbs. I did great.
Now with my health situation...my metabolism is totally whacked and I'm advised not to exercise right now.

I wrote a huge paper on this in grad school.
Putting soap/windex/too much salt on your food is disordered eating.
The last two items I posted...indicate the signs of a disordered eater and why calling foods good and bad is a part of disordered eating.
