I know this is the Winter Olympics but I think it was seriously ridiculous to remove softball from the Summer Olympics. That was always my dream, and I never got to even try to live it.
My UO: I actually like that it's snowing so much. It looks pretty, DH works from home more when it snows, and it makes these winter days a little less boring.
I've never even heard of this. It is amazing and it should come back. His hair is epic.
Truly spectacular. My question is how do you even get into that sport?
It's like a really great skier from the 80's woke up one day and thought, hmmm I want to be graceful and fabulous like a figure skater. Seriously though that takes a lot of talent! I would have kicked myself in the head within the first 5 minutes!
Here's an UO for many J13ers--my MIL does not suck this week. She is in town to visit her mom again, and yesterday morning she cleaned up my kitchen and living room while DH and I were working from home, and Saturday she and FIL are going to stay with the boys (they'll already be in bed, but still) so we can go to dinner for DH's bday/valentines. Can't complain!

If my MIL thought of anyone but herself I wouldn't have a problem with her. As it stands now, she sucks giant donkey balls.
I actually have a UO this week! It's sort of Olympic related so it actually goes with other topics.
I think sports are overrated. Not Olympic sports but team based professional sports. I think it's ridiculous that these athletes are paid millions of dollars to play games. Watching the Olympics makes me really appreciate the athleticism and dedication these people have in their sport. I LOVE learning about their personal stories and admire their hard work. I just don't think someone who plays in the NBA, MLB, or NFL has their same type of dedication and yet they are paid ridiculous amounts of money and are treated as royalty and think they can get away with anything because they are a professional athlete.
I don't want this to become another post about worth=pay but seriously, does someone who plays baseball/basketball/football for a living deserve what they pay? I really don't think so and it makes me so frustrated that people who work hard to make the world a better place make far less.
This might be a P&R but I had to get my opinion out! Off to get my kiddos ready for school/daycare.
Auto-play for video on websites should be banned. Opening a website and having some asshole start talking somewhere on the page is the worst - especially when the volume is up and baby is snoozing nearby.
OMFG I hate that shit! Who the hell thought that was a good feature? It's woken up my baby way too many times.

One way to get around that is to not update your Adobe Flash player. I never did. Now in order to play any video I have to click on it to allow it.
Putting this here because I don't want to make a separate thread, but every person, and certainly every parent should read this article. I think it fits into UO because it challenges a lot of widely held beliefs in our society, (and brings up no trophies for losers, a past J13 UO). It's also a good reminder in general.
If I Can't Accept You at Your Worst, Then Maybe You Should Stop Being So Horrible
Good quote from the article: "Forget what you learned in elementary school. The only "participation trophy" you're awarded from life is death. That's the one thing we all get just for showing up. In the meantime, if you want something better, you have to earn it."

Athlete pay is determined by how much money they bring in (kinda like a CEO, IMO) does Anyone need 10 mill a year? No, but they will continue making it because eez jus capitalism. To be fair, they do play a pretty key role in creating a GIANT industry that employs tons and tons of people both directly and indirectly.. So there's that.
No one should be treated preferentially in the court room.. I can agree with you there.
ETA: obviously their pay isn't directly determined by "how much they bring in".. My point is demand is there for sports by... Us!! We dump a lot of money in and they get the big bucks. It's why I consider my dollars as votes. If I don't like something I try not to buy it.
@spartanmomma
Earwigs are so gross. I hate them.
Not as much as I hate cockroaches but it's close.
My UO is that I think all the posts about baby size are annoying.
I hate that even babies are getting judged for how big or small they are. (Not saying everyone who has posted about baby size is doing so in judgement but I fear ultimately that's what these posts lead to.)
I like baby size posts. I don't think anyone is judging a baby based on their size - sometimes its just fun to hear what other babies are like. I have a big baby - I didn't do anything to make her that way and being big doesn't make her better or worse than other babies (the same as small or average babies). I think its the same as the milestone posts, the "look how much I pumped posts" and the "does your baby have teeth" posts. I get that it can create anxiety but it really shouldn't.

The reason that athletes, movie stars, and rock stars make so much money is because Americans dump billions of dollars a year into leisure activities/the entertainment industry. There are also less celebrities/professional athletes than say, teachers and nurses, so the money that gets dumped into their industry is spread out less.
I agree that it's completely unnecessary for anyone in the entertainment industry to make so much money, but that's why they do.
I actually like my MIL, maybe more than my mother. She does not judge me, defers all baby questions to me and gives no advice. She is great with DD.
I like my MIL more than my mother. MIL at least asks me how LO is doing and when she visits she actually spends time with her. It might be because I have higher expectations for how my mother should be and she doesn't live up to them versus my MIL who I don't have the same expectations for.
I think it's ridiculously pretentious when people talk about their 6 week old going to "school." Just say daycare, people. Your one year old? Maybe. Your 12 week old? No. I don't tell people I'm homeschooling the twins right now.

I feel the same way many times my mom means well but can't seem to help but to put things offensively and to talk incessantly about how fat she is (she's 5'8, 140lbs)... And to always put herself first.... Sigh.
Aww sure "> I don't think my husband is aware that it's tomorrow anyway :-?

Yes! So you hit a ball, catch a football, or protect a net. You don't need to be paid millions. There are people suffering all over the world with no health care, food, or water, but we are paying $10mil + to some of these people. When I hear new contracts being signed and the money being paid out, all I think about is starving kids.

Haha. Love this one! DH's cousin does this. It's called daycare. I feel like she's insecure saying her baby is in daycare or something- give me a break.

Maybe the same way you get into this one? The formal attire and choice of music really make his performance shine.
It won't be clicky for me.
