Random thread- for all things random.

Re: Random thread- for all things random.

  • my step-uncle has been pushing a bunch of his granddaughter's baby stuff on DH and I, and we don't want to be rude, so we've been taking it. It's mostly reeeallllyyy old rummage sale junk that I'm not certain it would even be safe to use.

Today we opened a pack-and-play we got from them, and upon googling it I found this video.

I was hoping to find out what the extra pieces did, but this guy didn't know either. Also, ADULT BABIES!?!?!?!?!?!?!

    Weird.
Out of all the things to be collected, and he chooses vintage baby crap? Weird. Too weird.

My FIL offered us DH's car seat. From 26 years ago. He asked if it would still be any good and I couldn't stop myself from laughing as I said "No." Then I politely explained to him that they are good for about 6 years after the manufacturing date. He couldn't believe it. He is also kind of a hoarder, he thinks things are good forever....

That was my original thought. I never imagined it's what I would find after googling "Evenflo Happy Cabana" :S

I'm a strange mixture of creeped out and amused.

My FIL is also like that, tried to give us a car seat, stroller, and crib from when DH was a baby. lol.
    We declined on those.

I'm hot and annoyed. That is all.

How are you holding up otherwise?

Ehhhh, pretty good. The farther the pregnancy goes along the harder the "being single" gets. I know I'm better off, really I do, but it's still so hard having everything come together in a way I never saw it happening. I'm still grieving the separation, but know it's for the best for me. I miss my husband (having a husband) but I do not miss him specifically. And I haven't heard from him in over two months. Nice to know my kids father doesn't give two shits about the pregnancy.

It really sucks that he doesn't at least ask about the baby. :( Sorry!

Worst pregnancy symptom yet: every time I sit down on a toilet, I involuntarily let out the loudest, most embarrassing, butt-clapiest fart ever. And my butt does not discriminate--this has happened at work, at a friend's house, Target, nice restaurants, trader joe's..... Ugh! Make it stop!

To-date this is the best adjective I've heard to describe farts. I love it.

I was hoping that adjective would help adequately describe the situation! Haha

I'm sorry, that's really shitty. Hopefully (or not) he picks which type of father he wants to be once the baby is born and sticks to it. That way you don't have to deal with any wishy washy bullshit. It's probably going to get worse before it gets better. I'm sorry.

  • So I moved to my husband's hometown over a year ago. He literally knows everyone in this town. Everybody knows EVERYBODY. There's only one school system so you're with the same people from pre-k all the way to high school. All of the older people here grew up in the town. No one ever leaves and it's rare new people come in.

Basically, I have no friends here. And with baby on the way, I was hoping to meet some other moms in town. So I went to our town's swap/buy/sell FB page and put out a thing about starting a "mommy" group.

Um... y'all. There's a lot of mommies looking for something similar. And two of the girls friended me on Facebook, so we've been kind of getting to know each other. One of the girls and I have even made plans to go antiquing together one weekend. It sounds so lame and stupid, but I am so excited to have some friends in this town.
I was/am in the exact same boat with my husband. He knows everyone, everyone knows everyone, raised together, schooled together, etc. I'm so proud of you for reaching out to other Moms!!! I tentatively joined a MOPS group, but then my work schedule changed so I can't make their Thursday morning meetings until I'm on Mat/perma-leave. I hope I have as good of an experience as you do!
I hope you do, too! I can't even describe how good it feels to actually make some connections in town, especially as a stay-at-home mom/wife. All of my other friends live 45 minutes to an hour away and, of course, can never make the drive down here (I live way out in the country), but I'm expected to head to them. It'll be so nice to have some girlfriends I can meet for lunch on a random Monday!

  • Ever feel like your LO is tickling you?

LittleDude has been in a weird position the last couple of days so I haven't felt him as often. However, this morning I wake up to jiggles and wiggles. I almost feel like he shoves a fist in my abdomen and then spreads his little bony fingers! I wonder if I'll be able to start seeing actual differentiation in his limbs :-D

Nope. I do however feel like LO is trying to karate chop his/her way out of there. DD was a much gentler baby!

My LO headbutts me in the tailbone area all the time and it cracks me up a little bit because I think "wrong exit girl!"  She has recently discovered how to headbutt me in the cervix... Ow!  (I assume it is her head because she is always head down and it feels bigger than a kick or a fist).

Nope, but I do feel like he's having a wrestling match with my bladder lol

@likeanoldtimemovie‌ I know how you feel. We moved from Georgia to Iowa in 2011 and it has been so very lonely for me. Most of DH's family and several childhood friends live here, but all of my "people" are down South (except my mom who has since moved to New Jersey). It's really hard to make friends as an adult! I always want to be friends with coworkers because they're pretty much the only people I interact with regularly, but that has backfired a few times so I give up. DH is back in school so I've made friends with some of his ROTC friends, but they're several years younger and at a very different place in their lives than me so it's hard to relate. I love how proactive you were about meeting people! I may look around for a moms group and will definitely do so when the Air Force moves is next year!

Where did you get this? Does it come in toddler sizes?

Damn. seeing this makes me want another girl, but then of course she wouldn't need anything bc DD has always had too many clothes!

@SarahVol131, it's from Carter's!  Not sure how big your DD is, but they have it up to 24M, and it's currently only $7! :-)

ETA:  Oops.. Just saw from your ticker that she is 3 so probably not big enough ;-)

Sad!!! One of DH and my best couple friends (did that make sense?) just had a baby girl yesterday. I might have to see about getting it for her!

  • @LiteraChick‌ I'll keep my fingers crossed! I remember going through the same anxiety before we got our place--and the relief when it happened!

I made a post on a FB group that I'm apart of inquiring about a working moms groups...fucking crickets.  I need new friends in a desperate way...and not my mom or sister.
