BFing has failed me

I felt really crampy today. So I took an OPK just for shits and giggles. Yep, It was positive. What happened to built in birth control while you breast feed.... Lol Well this gal will be sitting with her legs crossed for the next 5 days. I guess on a positive note I can start using NFP now.

  • @crunchymama11 Yeah I had that thought as well. However, I doubt it because we haven't DTD since my last AF. Things have been so wonky I think I will double check to be sure.

Next time I have to go. I will take one and update. I seriously doubt it. We've only DTD 3 times and we have used protection.

  • Doc warned me that just because your BF and arent getting your period doesn't mean you can't get preggo. It would be amazing if that were really the case!

  • people really use NFP as a reliable form of birth control? i thought that was just catholic church nonsense to trick you into having more kids
A shocking number of adult women on this board were/are using NFP or pull and pray as their sole BC method. And swearing that they don't want to get pregnant again. Uh huh....

  • I just wanted to say that I'm not one of those woman ^. I fully understand how NFP works and that it's not birth control. I am also using condoms. However, it's a good way to track your cycles and avoid having sex at peak times. This reduces your chances of getting pregnant. If I get pregnant I would be perfectly okay with it. I'd rather wait till the end of summer though. I have APS and hormonal birth control are not an option for me. Nor do I want an IUD. I think using NFP and condoms will be perfectly sufficient.

Condoms are actual contraception, which is good.

Why do I not know these acronyms! NFP? OPK? However, using BFing as birth control? Nope octopus.

  • You guys know that NFP and pull-and-pray are not the same thing, right?

Of course pull and pray isn't effective. That's common sense.
NFP or FAM, when used correctly is actually very effective.

NFP/FAM and pull and pray are two very different things.

I don't think anybody was confusing the two. NFP is better than pull and pray, but I'm still not convinced it's terribly effective in the long-term.

  • @amjoy25 was definitely not using BF as birth control. I was just hoping for no periods. I'm guessing if I'm ovulating then I'll be getting a regular period to. I guess we will find out.

We have been together 9 years and have used nothing but pull and pray the entire time. We have 2 babies and both were planned. *shrugs*
