I love the name John and the NN Jack, but my first boyfriend was Jon and that has pretty much made the name a no-go. It's also eliminated James, George and Jesse. Oh well.
@hilarityensued did you consider those other names, George, James, etc? Cause I dig the old school traditional names. I have alot of welsh in me and one of the big names on that side is Griffin, which for some reason I just loved but MW loathed.
The only names we considered were more traditional names. We ended up going with William and I effing love it. George, James, Johnathan, Andrew... those were other contenders as well. The girls names I like are Beatrice, Alice, Eleanor, Charlotte and Adalyn so a little less traditional than the boys names. I don't have any idea at all what we'd name another boy. I feel like I'm just totally out of boys names!

Olivia is usually OliviaBear though I'm not sure that counts as a NN.
I never go by my full name. No one calls me that, like ever. My h even booked an international flight once using my common name and I was all "great, thanks! ...oh wait..."
Also, my blonde dog answers to Pooper (not his real name).
My FN has no possible NNs because it is a NN already.
Sad panda.

@hilarityensued i must pop all the pimples, and DH acts like a huge baby whenever i pop any of his. my fingers get all twitchy when i see a juicy, ripe for the popping pimple on someone that it would be inappropriate to touch.
@manneek1977 my cousin is named jonathan, not john. if you called his house when we were younger and asked for john, my aunt would say "sorry, no one by that name lives here" and hang up. and BTW, i love when you love tit things and i get to see sophia's little old lady face on things!

I did not want Oliver to be called Ollie, I lost that battle. Now he gets pissed when I call him Oliver. He says, "don't call me Oliver, call me Ollie!!" I think he associates the use of his whole name with being fussed at.

@nixieknox3 That will be Elijah probably in the future.. I luvs Sophia's!! ">
My SD1 has a super popular name with a youneek spelling. SD2s name is spelled wrong. I cringe when I have to write their names on forms or spell them for people like the other person is thinking "what an evil step mom! She can't even get their names right!". Nope they're right! Unfortunately...
DH was deployed during SD2s birth but he was there for SD1 and I hold him 50% responsible.
Speaking of inappropriately touching people... I have almost zero control when it comes to picking hairs off of the clothing of people around me. Often they are perfect strangers. Like I was standing in line at Starbuck's the other day and the woman in front of me had on a black shirt. She had blonde hair and WTMF there were at least 20 hairs just hanging out on the back of her shirt. I had to physically put my hands in my pockets to keep from grooming her. I can't imagine the creep factor of a perfect stranger touching me but I seriously had to physically restrain myself.
I am a little obsessive about getting the stray hairs off my shirts because a) I have blonde hair, b ) that shit falls out by the truckload after I wash my hair and c) I can usually be found wearing black, dark grey, blue or purple.
This is truly hilarious. Also, here is what I image random strangers looking like if you were to groom them. I seriously LOL'dwhen I read this.@HilarityEnsued
I skipped some pages so I'm not sure what got us on nicknames. But I love nicknames. It has never even occurred to us to call our kid Elizabeth, it wouldn't fit her at all. The only reason we named her Elizabeth in the first place is because we were dead set on calling her Betsy.
Neither H nor I have nickname-able names and it bugs me sometimes. Especially H's name. It's a family surname and it's a little stodgy.
I actually love the girls name Elizabeth but I don't like basically a single NN that goes with it. It would be the main reason I didn't go with Elizabeth as a girls name.
ETA: I didn't realize "betsy" was a NN for Elizabeth and I do actually like that. I was think Eliza, Liza, Liz and Beth.
I have a name with no intuitive NN-- but sometimes I do get called by the first syllable of my name, which I hate. It's not a name-- it's more of a sound and it's super weird.
My parents both call me LG though-- "little girl"-- like Archie Bunker used to call Gloria on All In The Family. I sort of look like a slightly less chubby, younger version of Sally Struthers, so I guess it was meant to be.
One of the selling points of DD's name was her super cute NN, Josie.

any stranger could touch my hair and i would curl up in his or her lap and purr like a kitten. i absolutely love having my hair played with. DS loves to play with my hair when he is falling asleep and it helps me forget how much of a turd he is during the day.
So I have been lurking around here lately and actually took the time to read this entire thread and have decided that you guys are my favorite board.
Now to join in the conversation, I love the name William too (and it is actually DH best friend's name but he goes by his middle name) but DH hated it so we compromised on Liam because we found out it is the Irish version of William and we have a really Irish last name so it flowed well.

I refuse for anyone to call DS2 other than his full first name. I do not like the nn for it...

We considered Libby. I like that a lot. I've since become friends with a Libba, which I now prefer to Libby.
