Attention Teachers!

There seems to be a lot of us hanging around, so I think we need a specific GTKY.  A community builder, if you will!

What subject(s) do you teach?

What grade(s) do you teach?

When do you go back to school?

When and how will you share your pregnancy with your students?

What have you missed LEAST about school this summer?

What grade(s) do you teach? Freshman & Sophomores

When do you go back to school? I am back on the 20th, kids report on 9/3

When and how will you share your pregnancy with your students? Not sure...this is why I asked! Last pregnancy I was about 19 weeks on my first day so I just told kids as part of introducing myself.  I will only be about 9 weeks this time around on day 1...so looking to see what the rest of ya'll are planning on.

What have you missed LEAST about school this summer? The question "Can I do extra credit?" on the last day of the trimester after neglecting to do the majority of the assigned work.

Hey ladies, I teach 1st grade so I'm teaching all subjects! Been teaching 1st for 5 years. I go back to work on Aug. 12 the kids come back the following week. I'm stressing because I have to leave early the first Wednesday the kids are back to go for my first ultra sound. I'm only going to be 8 weeks along when students start. Not sure when or how I will share the news, just praying a get to make it that far this time. I didn't get to share last time as I had a m/c at 11 weeks. I haven't missed asking 18, 6 and 7 year olds to sit quietly, or the tattling. That's a big one in first grade. Wishing you ladies all the best, enjoy the rest of your summer vacation.

Hi! I still can't figure out how to stop the IPad from messing up the formatting, so I apologize in advance.I teach third grade, so I teach all subjects. We officially start back the 14th, with kids on the 16th, but I will be going in to work over the next two weeks. I haven't decided for sure when I will tell my students. I will wait as long as possible. Last time I just told them, but my friend has a book I may use this time. At my students' age, the kids get really excited about things like this. The thing I have missed least is having a bunch of papers to grade, things to plan, etc. once my son goes to sleep at night. I am really appreciating the "me time" to rest at the end of the night, especially with as tired as I've been lately. Hopefully the exhaustion lets up a bit as school work is about to pick up!

    Love this GTKY!!

I teach 9-12th grade (and through age 21) life skills SpEd. I have a twin sister with Down Syndrome and wanted to teach a class like hers ever since I was younger! :) I teach all subjects-they're with me all day except my planning period. We also leave the school a lot to practice job skills in the community.

I've been teaching summer school for SpEd students. It ends next week then I have a few days off before I officially start back on the 16th.

That's such a good question. Some of my students will understand and be really excited and others might not fully understand. :) I'm more trying to decide when to tell my aides, my principal, and some of the other teachers. I feel kind it will be so obvious if I end up getting bad sickness. Plus I already have to pee so often, they're really going to wonder what's wrong with me!

I don't miss the constant planning and paperwork.

What subject(s) do you teach? All subjects

What grade(s) do you teach? Kindergarten (I taught Kindergarten for 10 years, then had to move to first grade for 2 years and am excited to be going back to kindergarten)

When do you go back to school? Staff have to report back Aug. 29, students start Sept. 3.  Of course, as you all know, I'll be back a lot before then.  I have a class all next week, workshops, meetings and classroom prep that I'll be doing over the next several weeks.

When and how will you share your pregnancy with your students? I'm not sure yet.  Last time around the timing was perfect for me to share the news in my introduction letter to families.  This time, I think it'll be a little too early (although I plan to tell co-workers after my ultrasound on Aug. 23).  I'll probably wait until end of Sept./early Oct. and send a letter home to families.  Depending on when I start showing, I may have to say something sooner.

What have you missed LEAST about school this summer? Kids who don't follow any directions and whose parents don't support the school staff if helping with that.  Ugh!

@boomer88 That is definitely something I am worried about. Last time I was really strategic about my bathroom breaks and luckily wasn't sick at all. If I am sick this time, I will let the teachers in the rooms around me know earlier than planned so they can help me keep an eye on my class if I need to run to the bathroom in our pod. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't have to!

I am lucky that I have a bathroom right outside my classroom.  I can make a quick run and be back before the kids know I'm gone.  Last time I never got sick, just had to pee a lot.  Hopefully I won't have to deal with throwing up this time.  With my first, I was very nauseous, but that was during the summer and went away before school started.  This time around it would likely be during the first month or so of school.  We'll see.  Fingers crossed that it isn't a big deal.

I apologize as we'll for my format, I am also using an iPad. There seems to be a lot of us hanging around, so I think we need a specific GTKY. A community builder, if you will! What grade(s) do you teach? For the last 9 years I've taught kindergarten. This year I am going to be a reading intervention teacher working with kids in small groups from Pre-k to 3rd. I'm nervous about my new job and then also going through my first pregnancy at the first time. But i think it will be easier to take off for appointments. I actually have my first sonogram the first week of school, which also makes me nervous. When do you go back to school? Officially teachers report back Aug 19th, but I have workshops and still have to go clean up my classroom since I just learned I was getting the new intervention job. Kids start the 26th. When and how will you share your pregnancy with your students? Since I won't have my own class I prob will wait and just let them figure it out. I'm going to try to wait till three months before telling my co workers. What have you missed LEAST about school this summer? Getting up early!

Sorry iPad. I teach special education English and literacy to 9-10 graders. I go back to work August 16 and students start August 26. I will likely wait to tell my students until they notice, but they are very observant and noticed at like 10 weeks with my son so it may be earlier than I plan. I love summer and spending time with my son and have missed writing Ieps least probably. Ugh. Not looking forward to going back.

I teach 8th grade English. The students go back on the 20th...too soon! I have already told a few coworkers and my principal. We are all very good friends and its hard not too when you have weekly dinners and I refused a drink last week. Plus, they knew we were trying. As for everyone else and the students I want to wait as long as I can. As long as I don't start showing or become too ill then the first of October. This is our first so I'll have to find a cute way to share with them!

@melis0529 - When I was pregnant with my son I looped with my class too and it was such a great experience.  When I told them I was pregnant some of them even cried tears of happiness!  They were always looking out for me and baby.  It will always be a special class for me.  Just wanted to share since your post made me think of my first pregnancy :)

@boomer88 - Again, back to first pregnancy, it really is the best timing.  My son was born in early April and I took the rest of the year off.   It was great.  And it was the perfect weather for a newborn.  Can't imagine having to deal with winter gear with a newborn!

Also, SO MANY teachers here, I love it!
