I am so impressed with you ladies that fly with toddlers. Most of our family lives local, so we haven't had an actual reason to fly anywhere- but I know I would bomb that big time. Hell- most of the time I bomb some aspect of our trip to the store!
Whenever I talk to people I always say oh we are only a 4 hour flight away, but once you add drive times, check-in, baggage claim, etc if we can make it home in under 10 hours we are doing well.
Right! Our 2.5 hour flight was really 6.5 hours travel time from the time we left the in-laws house until the time we got into our house. And we are lucky to live only 15 minutes from our airport!

this is exactly why I never understand people who fly to the Okanagan or to Saskatchewan from where we live. Especially with kids. I have no issues flying with M, and have done it many times. But when we are headed to BC I'll be damned if I'm going to drive 2.5 hrs to the airport, be there 1-2 hrs before my flight to get baggage checked, get through security, let my toddler run around before the flight, etc. , take the 1.5 hr flight , arrive, get our bags, then the car rental (at least another hour) and drive to our destination, probably another hour or more. I'd way rather just drive the 8-9 hours in my own car, stop at our leisure and work with my kid's mood. Plus, if she's cranky I'd rather us be the only ones listening to her scream.
When we are headed farther away I just assume both my travel days are going to be write offs.
MY love-titing broke part the way through trying to catch up with spam today, so many love tits to those who should have gotten them!
We just got home from nearly a week out of town, and it's so good to be back. I mean, I love staying with my ILs - they watch LO a ton and genuinely enjoy giving us the chance to relax, but there's nothing like being home.
LO was *so* excited to see the kitties. Slightly less so for the dogs, but it's nice to see how excited *he* was to be home!
@heelibrarian I just saw your response in the old thread about @subliminalrabbit's E's new "loveys". Do you guys use a nursing pillow at all? I realize it probably isn't a regular thing anymore, but up until we quit in September I still used the pillow when I nursed her before bed or anytime she'd wake up in the middle of the night. Turns out the nursing pillow is M's lovey. She sleeps on it every night, and if for any reason it is out of the crib she lugs it around and randomly lays on the floor with it. Just a thought, if it's something you haven't tried with her yet.
Also really random.... Those who have netflix you should check out the show Marco Polo (it's a netflix original). I'm on episode 5 and I'm actually enjoying it more than I thought I would.
I slept like crap last night. My mind is racing because we are travelling to Miami tomorrow. So excited to ring in the new year with some sun and live music!
@classictwitch I don't know about purity, but I got oils at Wholefoods when they were on sale for 50%. I have to admit I picked sweet orange because it was one of the cheaper ones.
@heelibrarian My LO is still not a good sleeper, but a pillow actually helped him a lot. It's a super skinny adult size pillow and I actually use his pillowcase for a few days and then put it on his pillow. It has brought us from 3-4 wake ups down to 1-2.
I just dropped KJ off to daycare and I'm feeling a little emotional. She looks happy to be back. She ran happily to her teacher and then she pointed to one of her classmates and said, "that *name*". Then she blew me a kiss and said, "bye-bye mama." It was so cute.
Lately I have been looking at her and wondering where she came from. She is so big and cute and smart. She has come such a long way from the little squish I brought home 18 months ago.
@sctiger Well, we have only been able to do that twice a week because he works nights. Soooooo on those nights she sleeps a smidge better but nowhere near sttn. He's got 5 nights off in a row this week so I want to try something different, but don't know if that amount of time will be enough, kwim?
There is only one way to find out ;-) Good luck this week!
We've been without cable since June. We just use Netflix and hulu. In the beginning I missed out cable, but now that we are 6 months without it I'm so glad we finally ditched it! Not only did we save a ton of money but now the TV is rarely even on.
I'm over winter now. J has had a cough for what feels like forever. She hasn't seemed to be bothered by it, but I'm letting her dr know at her appt on the 8th. And today she learned how to take her pants off, so she's been doing that all morning, then looks at me and laughs.
DH and I are going to the movies together to see Selma tomorrow afternoon. We are going to one with reclining chairs like someone, I think @mcbush, mentioned the other day. So excited!
We have a friend staying with us for the next 2 nights. I am happy she is going to be around to babysit tomorrow (daycare closes at noon) so we can go to the movie but I kind of wanted it to just be DH and I alone after the last week out of town. Our "alone time" can get kind of loud...
I think we will get it back in a month or so. We were out of contract and they tripled our rates---- ummmm not happening. We will sign up under DH's name and get a new receiver etc for 22 bucks a month and 25k United miles. I do not understand their model.
Our satellite company did this to us last year. I simply call back once a year when our "promotion" runs out and demand to get the same rate as "new" customers since I've been such a loyal one for so many years. They are pretty accommodating when I threaten to switch companies. We now get a special loyalty package that isn't available to the general public (as in, it isn't advertised as one of the packages online) for about $20 cheaper/month than our previous package and we get way more and better channels. They also threw in a couple free receiver rentals, which I love because now I can upgrade whenever they come out with new ones without having to buy a new one.
@steamboat123 I think of you every time I read and interesting index investing article. Just read one about whether you can mesh socially responsible investing and indexing.
Do any of you have any tips on getting your LO to take medicine? Grayson is spitting it all out. I've tried blowing in his face and only putting a small amount in at a time but he's still spitting a lot out.
J is giving DH and I fits today. She won't eat lunch, refuses to take a nap, but cries everytime she does anything. We've been tag teaming today and have finally decided to let her crash on her own today. Maybe she'll sleep all night tonight
Have you tried giving it in the little medicine cup instead of the dropper or syringe @ColieAnn31 ? M is usually pretty good at taking it, but if she's being difficult the cup usually helps. Worst case, put it in a bottle or sippy cup mixed with something he'll drink.

We've tried a medicine cup. We might have to just mix it with something next time. Thanks!

Does he use a pacifier? I've seen a hack where you slice a hole in the paci and give it that way.

Kids are like dogs - if you lightly stroke their throat they will automatically swallow. If you've ever given a dog a pill, you know what I'm talking about.
I've also done a paci but slightly different - one mL, then stick in paci and they will suck on it and swallow the medicine. Then repeat.
Also a little Hershey's chocolate syrup makes any medicine taste good. Our pedi does it with hers all the time and it worked once with DS.
@sctiger I'm so jealous! All M wants to do today is go outside, but the girl will not keep mitts on lately and it's too cold to play outside without them. When it warms up in a few days we are going to try again (I like to do it when it's mild enough that it isn't really bad to be outside without mitts, but still cold enough that she starts to understand that she'll be cold without them).
