To C-section or not to C-section...

Sure i wanna give birth naturally, but now i am tempted to get a section. Nevermind the reasons, but if any of you had the choice, which would you go with?

Since this is my 1st pregnancy, I have no idea. I would assume vaginal since the recovery is easier.

the way my body was designed to give birth to a baby.

but who knows, with the number of c-sections on the rise, maybe eventually women will be born with a zipper on their stomach to just pop out babies that way. you know, selective evolution....

while i had a really horrible 4th degree tear after my vag birth - i would never choose a c/s for my first birth without a medical reason.

I'm having a c/s this time b/c i could never go through a 4th degree tear again - but most women do NOT tear that bad- so without a medical reason- i say vag is the way to go - at least try - and see how it works out.

why would you voluntarily choose major surgery where your insides are pulled out and resting on your stomach while they pull out your baby instead of giving birth vaginally?

my neighbor, also one of the OBs in my practice had a baby in Sept. and scheduled her own c-section and her baby came home looking angelic and non-stressed, cause she was never IN the birth canal. ?I dunno, seems like a good idea for mom (preserving present state cooter-ville) and keeps the baby from physical stress.

it's a fair question. ?i should admit, i thought it was a bit strange my dr. would schedule ?a c-section for her first child, but if she did it with no medical reason, maybe it's just one of those choices one can make. ?

If I had my choice, I would prefer the baby be either beamed out of me, ala Star Trek, or maybe just sucked out of my belly button. It's still up in the air though.

I have had a c/s and even though my recovery wasnt that bad I would still never choose to have another one.

You will automatically be the hospital for longer. Recovery will be much harder. You may not be able to keep your baby in your room with you. You wont be able to drive for 4-6 weeks. Coughing, sneezing, laughing.....all hurts so bad after having your ab muscles pulled apart.

I know there are risks to everything, but knowing of 2 people who passed away due to complications from the major surgery that is a c-section, it now scares the crap out of me.

Coming from someone who had an emergency c-section (and NEVER wanted to have one) - I say go naturally unless medically necessary. Recovering from a c/s is SO much harder - and babies are MEANT to go through the birth canal.

I was just considering having my DH cut the baby out of my womb himself. I mean that way I save the cooter, the physical effects of the birth canal travel on the baby (since that is so important) and we save the gas it takes to get to the hospital...

i've been reading about each week, and up to some parts of labor. nature will inevitably take its course without me having a choice in the matter. ?(i seriously am not considering c-section, i actually plan on not having an epidural but have read enough to know i will most likely be begging for it at some point. ?childbirth classes are scheduled for this weekend and other than that, we're set.?

Um, there are benefits to being squeezed through the birth canal. For one, it helps remove fluids from the baby's lungs. The baby doesn't stay squished-looking forever.
