Babies: 0 - 3 Months

moms who had GD please come in

I have been reading a lot about inductions scheduled because the mothers had GD, even if their sugars were well controlled. I really want to avoid an induction this time. Were any of you allowed to go into labor naturally? Or should I really try to come to terms with an induction?

Re: moms who had GD please come in

  • I had GD and high blood pressure and had an induction at 37wks ended up with CSec.  They kept giving me growth ultra sounds on her and they were right... 8.5 lb baby!

  • I had a scheduled c/s (even though she ended up coming early) b/c she was breech, but if she hadn't been breech I would have been allowed to go into labor naturally. But DD was very small, they were actually monitoring her growth to make sure she wasn't too small, as opposed to too big. So if your baby is big that might make it different.

  • I was an insulin-dependant GD pregnancy.  (18 units in AM, 18 units in PM) I had quite a few growth ultrasounds and did Non Stress Tests every week for the last couple months - but no, I was not induced.  My due date was 7/17, and I went into labor on my own on 7/18.  If baby is not getting too large, and NSTs go well, you will probably be allowed to progress on your own.  GD does not necessarily mean induction.

(oh, and I had a growth u/s the day before I went into labor that put her at 7lbs 15oz - she was born at 8 lbs even...so mine was pretty accurate)

  • I was induced at 39 w. ?I was supposed to induced at 37w, but we felt like something was off, so we made them cancel it. I'm very glad we did cancel that one because they were off on DD's weight by about 2 lb! ?But I was induced 2 days before 39w and she was born at exactly 39 via c/s. ?I was insulin dependent with issues controlling it, so that, combined with what they thought was going to be a huge baby, resulted in the induction. ?GL!
  • I was induced at 38 weeks.  My OB wanted to if my cervix was "ready", I was starting to dilate, my sugars were out of control, despite a ton of insulin, and diet management.  My BP was slightly elevated as well.  My OB said sh would have liked me to go to 40 weeks, but obviously I was having issues.  Everyone is different...I would go by what your OB recommends.  I don't think GD automatically means that you will be induced...I just think it presents it's own problems that may require an induction as opposed to someone who doesn't have it.

  • I went into labor naturally. In fact I would say that despite the GD, I have the labor that I wanted. I did have to have 3 insulin shots throughout labor, which I'd never had to have before. But I didn't even take notice of them because the contractions were a much bigger issue (I went natural).

I did end up with a C/S in the end but that had nothing to do with the GD.
