As I've posted before, my house stinks right now. (Long story, but basically I have a carpet that got soaked in putrid water and may be growing mold, and a husband who claims the smell will just go away.) I am trying to fix the problem.
Meanwhile, my best friend called last week and wants to stay at our house next weekend. I told her she is more than welcome, but warned her in no uncertain terms that the house stinks. I figured she'd find somewhere else to stay. But she's still coming to my house. I'm sort of embarassed to have anyone in the house. Plus all the crap from the stinky room is now in our family room and it's a mess. I'd go to a hotel if I could -- I kind of wish she would too.
Re: Would you stay at a friend's house that stunk?
I think you need to rip the carpet out of there asap. I would have done it by now.
I'm sorry, that whole situation is really crappy!
Have you called anyone yet...as suggested earlier today? When will someone be coming out or what did they suggest? It depends when the water soaked your carpet as to if there is mold or not. Mold doesn't grow overnight but in a warm environment it doesn't take long. I know you said you've cleaned the carpet but the subfloor probably has to be dried out (depending on what it is will determine how long it will take).
As for your friend. Don't worry about it. You've warmed her and if she doesn't like the smell she can move to a hotel/motel.
