Babies: 0 - 3 Months

POTW comments & a bath question

First, I want to say that all of the babies are so cute!

My DD still screams through all of her baths.  We've tried showers (with dad), tub in kitchen, and tub in our big tub.  I've brought in a heater to make the bathroom so warm it feels like a sauna.  No matter what we try, she always ends up crying--a lot.  Any advice on what to do to help her like bath time?

Re: POTW comments & a bath question

  • Have you tried 'swaddling' her in a towel and then only exposing one part to wash at a time.  I've heard that makes babies feel a lot more secure.  I haven't tried it, though, because I'm lucky to have a little guy who is starting to enjoy his baths now.

  • You can try putting a warm washcloth on her when you are bathing the rest of her body.  DD tub has a pump in it that circulates the water and she seems to like that much better than just a tub without it.
  • I give my DS a bath in the bathroom on the counter in front of the mirror.  He didn't like baths until I started giving them there.  He likes to look at himself in the mirror while I bathe him.
  • A lot of the time I just get in with him.  He is more submerged in the warm water that way and can sit up instead of laying down.  We have a few toys to play with and he loves it.

  • Hmm, the mirror idea is interesting.  DD loves to look around.

We have tried the washcloth, but it's been a while.  I might have to try again.

  • I always bring Colt in the bath with me.. he can get pretty submerged so he doesn't get chilly and we can cuddle and even nurse. He loves it!

  • Audrey loves baths, no problem. Natalie screams like a banshee from the moment her diaper is off, until she is dressed again. However, I've found that me holding her against my chest tightly after I undress her and slowly leaning her forward into the bath water works (I bathe w/them in the tub, though w/a bathing suit since I have to get in and out with each - or H hands them to me). She also enjoys the big bear sponge that she can "float" on.
