Making own baby food: peas/green beans

wholesome baby food website says it can be hard to puree these because of the skins/shells/whatever.  If you made these, was it hard to do?  Did you use a sieve like they suggest?

Re: Making own baby food: peas/green beans

  • I used the sieve, and it wasn't as much work as I was expecting.  Just a note though - use a little less water than you think you need because when you take the skins out the product gets thinner.

  • I used frozen and everything pureed right up in the blender.  I wish I lived somewhere where good fresh beans  and peas were easier to find!
  • I also used frozen and just pureed them in the food processor.  Didn't need to use a sieve at all, and they came out great.  DD loves the green beans! :)

  • I was able to put my peas (verrrry steamed) in my food mill but my husband had to crank it (I am a wus). My green beans were also very steamed but would not work in the food mill... I used my processor and they are still chunky so I havent served them yet. GL!

  • I too do frozen and puree in the blender. I do sort of "sift" through it w/ a spoon to check for any large stringy pieces. I will usually find a couple things like that I remove before freezing. DD has no problem eating them.
  • I did peas and zucchini and had no problems I have pics in my baby food blog (pic below). Drew loved both. I haven't tried green beans yet.
