3rd Trimester

2nd (or 3rd or 4th) time moms, I have a question...

Is it really necessary to own a glider?  Would a regular comfy chair or even a rocking chair do the trick?  My ILs are going to buy us whatever chair we want, but I refuse to ask them to buy us something over like $200, and gliders are ridiculous...

any advice would be awesome.

thanks.

  • We are getting a la-z-boy.  That's what I had with DD, and what I prefer.

  • rocker, glider, lazyboy whatever you are comfy in works. walmart and kmart have the cheapest (priced) ones ive seen yet.
  • We lived in a tiny one bedroom apt with our first and didn't have room for any type of glider or rocker. I either bf'd in bed or on the sofa. It was totally fine. A regular comfy chair is fine! :)
  • The biggest thing is that you are comfortable sitting in it for a long time. I spent a lot of time in my glider with DD#1 and even though we have a normal rocker I still used the glider because it was just more comfortable. Get somthing that feels comfortable.
  • I'm not a 2nd+ timer, but if your cutoff is $200 and you want a glider, we got this one:

It's free shipping too, so it would be just under $200.

that seems like a sweet deal.

    thanks everyone!

  • my husband works in a furniture store and gliders are always returned and exchanged for lazboys or rocking chairs. Which is why we bought a lazeboy. Its a small one and takes up hardly any room and I am so glad we went that route because I spent many nights reclined back in that thing when DD was little.  So I recommend a recliner. But whatever you feel like you are comfortable sitting in with your arms in an up position is good.

Wow! That is the exact set that we have!

  • ditto the lazyboy. they are so much more comfortable than the wooden gliders and can be used in another room once you don't need it in the nursery anymore. i just couldn't bring myself to buy one of the gliders at a baby store because they scream nursery furniture to me and i couldn't justify buying furniture to only use for a couple years.

by the way, the lazyboy we found is a glider/recliner that is so much more comfortable than even the $800 Dutailiers at baby stores and didn't cost nearly as much, plus we'll actually be able to use it for a lot longer.

  • Have a rocker but would love a lazeboy.  Esp for right now.

  • We have a glider and love it but I think a rocker or recliner would be nice as well.
  • If I hadn't scored a super comfy glider from my neighbors for $25, I would've gone the rocking recliner route so that I could eventually move it elsewhere.  Otherwise just haunt CL.

  • I'd say any chair thats comfy would work, but I'd also add that one that reclines would be badasas.  we had a glilder for our first and it didn't recline and I can't tell you how many times that DS would only sleep on me after a feeding which meant that I then had to try to sleep upright, I did it a few times but it was hard and it sucked.  so this time we got a much better chair.  so a glider is good, but get a reclining glider or a chair that you think you can fall asleep in if need be!
