Baby Names

I know it's early, but if you're like us, me and my husband will probably need the full nine months to name this baby! What names are you loving, names you love but won't use, need advice or polls? Let's go!

Re: Baby Names

  • We pretty much have settled on a girls' name - but we cannot agree on a boy's name. This happened with my daughter too, so she was lucky she's a girl because otherwise we'd still be trying to name a boy.

  • For boys we have Cody and Kacey
For girls I really love Audrey but DH doesn't like it

We have two sons and a daughter, and we have a lot of naming "rules" for ourselves (though we broke several naming our daughter lol) and it makes it haaaard chosing a 4th baby's name when we feel like we've run through a lot of our material lol. The rules are basically, we won't repeat the first name initial for the kids (we already have a J, E, and V), DH doesn't love long names because our last name is long, and we generally speaking won't pick a top 100 name because DH hated having 3 kids with his name in his class at school (so sorry daughter, who's name is like 17th for last year). We also have two kids who's names are sort of the same nature-y vibe but in different ways - so we can't do another naturey name. We want the names to flow together but not too matchy... I know, we make things hard for ourselves. Names I love but we won't use because of ✨️rules✨️ are Juniper, Laurel, Ivy, Olivia, Henry, Beau, Will, Riley. I love Ambrose for a boy, but when we were choosing names for baby #3, DH only liked it as a middle name. I'm crossing my fingers he changes his mind if this baby is DS3! I also love Adeline for a girl but apparently DH says the very-popular-on-tiktok dark romance book has ruined the name for him.
  • @thescarletmom as someone who works with babies, can confirm Adeline (and all variations Adaline, Adelynn, Adalaide, etc) is very, very popular right now. Has been for the last 3-4 years. I also love it as a girl name though
  • @lizdiane456 ugh I know it! And we already gave our daughter the 16th most popular name the year she was born. We just both couldn't get over loving it, and since we had never met anyone with the name personally we went for it. But DH will not let another extremely popular name happen in this household 😂 for reference our other two children have the 209th and 158th most popular in their respective years. Hopefully Ambrose being the 741st most popular last year will be enough to convince DH. He lives and dies by the SSA baby name popularity lists when we're naming babies.
  • @thescarletmom I love the name Beau but my husband…does not.
  • @fifilala516 sigh. Same. My husband and I have mostly very different taste in names and it can be very frustrating.
  • My husband won’t discuss names until we are weeks from the birth. One of our kids didn’t have a middle name until after he was born. I have a hard time naming a boy but I have several girl names I love.
  • Can’t use it, but I’ve always loved the name Elio. It just sounds so warm and bright to me.
  • We already know this baby is a boy. Boys in our family all have J names. My husband and son have J names, as well as his 2 brothers and dad. With that many, all the ones I like are already used up! l I want to give the baby a J middle name and use a different letter first name. Husband isn't on board yet but Im hoping he will come around lol
  • @beachmama14 that’s very limiting. Boy names are already so hard, I couldn’t imagine being tied down to names with a specific letter. Hopefully you can get hubby on board. I think your idea is a great compromise.
  • @beachmama14 We have a bunch of J names that we love, and can't use because our oldest's name starts with J and we don't want to reuse first initials. Hopefully he comes around! I agree that it's a good compromise, and I personally don't like to be held to naming regulations created by other people (your ILs in this case).
  • I love talking baby names! Some I love but won’t use: Hazel, Jude, and Arlo. Either taken by friends or don’t flow with our last name.

  • I knew I wanted an M name for my first child after my grandfather. This time we’re looking at B and R for our grandmothers, but will probably do that as a middle name this time so we don’t limit ourselves.
  • I don't know if any of the nerdy moms will know what I'm talking about, but my husband keeps trying to convince me to name the baby after a Magic the Gathering character if it's a girl 🙄 he's been weirdly non-commital about any name I suggest so far this time so I'm nervous what this means for our baby naming adventure.

My first sons name is Beau! Its a great name ❤️
  • I’ve always like the name Sophia for a girl. This time I chose Lexi or Alexis for a girl. Lo and behold it’s another boy 😆 which is always hard names for me. I have a Jacob and an Isaac. My spouse likes Eli. I like Eli also, but my friends son is Eli and my cousin has an Eli too. My spouse doesn’t care, he says we like the name and it doesn’t matter who else has an Eli. I liked the name Mateo, but he quickly said no. So now he’s saying it’s probably Eli and I just don’t know how I feel since others close to me have an Eli! I don’t want them to be offended.
  • @robinj716 he can't just veto your names because he's stuck on his pick! If you are pretty close with your friend and cousin, I personally wouldn't re-use the name, not because it would be offensive but because I've never met anyone who *likes* sharing a name with someone else, especially if they see them often. It can also be confusing yelling at two different Elis in the same room lol. I definitely agree that boys names can be so hard. But this time around I'm pretty confident on a boy name and have nothing for a girl! So it's definitely going to be a girl now 😂
  • Luckily my cousin is in Germany and my best friend I see maybe 7 times a year. I told him “you’re going to have to come up with something else to get stuck on” but I know I’ll be back here announcing the birth of “Eli” because he will get his way. I’m going to keep making a list of names though.
  • @robinj716 I love the names Jacob, Isaac, and Eli!
