@night_nurse it's such a weird outlook. I saw an old friend from college a month or two ago and he saw I was expecting and was like "we need to get your husband a hobby!" I said "it's only our second and they're 3+ years apart...." He messaged me on later apologizing again because he thought it was our third. But even if it was, why would that even be something you comment on??
And what if it isnt planned and someone answers honestly and says no? What do you say then? Like, why would you want to possibly even enter that awkward space?
It always blows my mind what people are willing to say/ask in their out loud voices. @cmill828 I’m with you. I wouldn’t even want to risk entering an awkward space with someone. I’m so uncomfortable socially already I don’t need to make it worse😂
Is there anything worse than a sick and pitiful baby? My 22 month old woke up over night with rigor and a high fever, vomited once and has had a high fever all day today despite weight based tylenol and ibuprofen. Im usually pretty conservative with the fever meds but her temp is like 104.8 on her forehead. So pitiful. Just all glassy eyed and wants to do nothing but sleep. Days like these I hate I have to work outside of the house. And I hate that I have to choose between being there for my kiddos and facing discipline at work for calling out.
@ceclarlinetlo we did that yesterday morning, with a popsicle, and it did seem to help. My oldest has always spiked really high fevers, sometimes with no other symptoms at all and seems like little sis will do the same. She’s with daddy today while im at work and he says she is doing okay. Still sleeping a lot but eating and drinking when she’s up.
@night_nurse my soon to be middle child is the same way with fevers. Doesn’t get quite that high, but multiple times he’s had a fever for a week with no other symptoms to give a clue as to what’s causing it. Glad to hear she’s eating and drinking well. Hopefully you are all just getting some sickness out of the way before baby comes 🤞
I’m starting to think about birth control for after delivery and I’m having a hard time deciding what I want to do. After each of my other deliveries I went with the nonhormonal IUD (Paraguard) but the second time it started causing me some pain towards the end so I don’t want to get it again. I’m stuck between a nuvaring, nexplanon and the newer mini pill that doesn’t have to be taken at the exact same time everyday like the old one. Pros and cons for all of them and so I’m not sure which wins over all. We just used barrier methods before having kids and never had any issues so there is always that option but idk.
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Still has a fever but not as high and actually went 8hrs with a normal temp yesterday before it spiked again before bed. Now the 5yo also has a fever 😢 DH and I are taking bets on which one of us gets it first 😵💫
@ceclarlinetlo are you planning to breastfeed? For some reason I thought that the nuvaring wasn’t comparible with breastfeeding? Could be wrong.
I did a mirena hormonal IUD after my first and had no problems with it. I know myself and can’t guarantee i’d be consistent taking the mini pill the exact same time of day every day so dont think that’d be a good option for me. Toying with the idea of using one of the NFP methods, but again, the commitment to temping or testing every day seems like more than I could handle.
DH keeps saying he is going to get the ✂️ but we’ll see if he follows through.
@night_nurse I will add that a challenge with NFP in the pp period is that your cycle may fluctuate - we did that after my first, and it went great.... until it didn't. Which is how we have my daughter 😉 I was weaning my son and my very short cycle lengthened suddenly. We were getting ready to TTC, so she wasn't unwanted, it just happened sooner than planned.
To add to the BC convo - I've been asked like 6 times if I want to get my tubes tied if I wind up with a csection 🤪 We've decided to skip that, because MH is planning on getting ✂️, and I know they are just checking because I have to fill out paperwork, but damn 🙃

My concern with all of these hormonal options is that I have very hard to treat depression and anxiety. I’ve dealt with it since I was 15 and I keep having to change meds every so often because what I’m on will stop working after a while. I’m in a really good place now (after 3 years of being in a really bad place) so I’m nervous to add a hormonal change into the mix. I figure what ever I decide to try I’ll wait a few months to let me see how my depression does without that variable and use barrier methods for that time.
My OB said that with the low estrogen amount that is in Nuvaring a lot of his patients don’t experience a dip in their milk supply but it is still a risk in that you won’t know until you try. The pros are that it’s easily stoppable compared to the nexplanon if I don’t tolerate it well, but the risk of it possibly affecting my milk supply is giving me pause. I’ve always been an over producer (not majorly so, just enough to feed baby and probably week or two of a stash in the freezer) so if things go how they usually do I feel like I have the wiggle room, but I’m also 5 years older than last time I was pregnant so that doesn’t feel like a given.
The new mini pill is called Slynd and it’s progesterone only and more flexible with when you take it. I take lexapro and Wellbutrin every morning anyway so I could take it about the same time every day (within 2 hours depending on if I’m waking up kids for school or sleeping in a bit on Saturday) so not having to be down to the same minute makes it feel more like a viable option.
I guess if I can handle the progesterone only pill we’ll then maybe I could still go nexplanon later? I like the idea of not having to get a refill every month. Just set it and forget it like an IUD. But it’s the most hassle to stop it if I don’t like it. It’s hard enough to schedule appointments for myself with two kids so I’m sure adding a third in will make that even harder.
@ceclarlinetlo yes the fact that you have to have a provider remove nexplanon and IUDs is a huge reason I didn’t get one after my 2nd. That’s good to know about nuvaring and the mini pill. I have always been a *just enougher* and didn't want to risk my supply or a hormonal/emotional issue with the pill last time and honestly this is why we will have 2 under 2 lol. I’ve got to figure our a plan though or abstinence it is lol
@hedgepig i can almost guarantee the only reason you get that question so much is because of the number of kids you have 🙄 I have been reading up on Marquette and Creighton for NFP and they have a postpartum protocol to follow while you’re in the unpredictable period but I keep seeing posts of method-failire pregnancies.
@night_nurse glad your little is on the mend. Hope you and H can avoid it! So hard when you have to choose work or babies!
To add the BC discussion - no one has asked me, yet, so thanks for reminder to think about it! We went with no BC and kids are between 2.5 and 3 years apart, but I had to actively work to not have a giant oversupply the 2nd time. First time I had no idea how big a freezer stash should be. It was too much. Hah. We’ll see what happens this time around.

Re BC: I used the nexplanon before TTC, and I loved not having to think about it for three years! But I had really irregular periods, which changed over the three years. The mood swings were something I had never experienced before, so might be something to watch out for if you are prone to depression. Mine also migrated way up my arm and was actually quite challenging to remove (but the nurse said she’d never seen something like that before).
We’ve discussed something more permanent since we only want one kid, but also a bit wary of going through even minor surgery if not necessary. Not super keen to go back on the pill, either though… So might stick to barrier methods to start while bfing (are diaphragms still a thing??), but probably will switch to something else down the line.
@night_nurse glad DD is feeling better but I hope you and hubby can avoid catching it next🤞🏻
@hedgepig how annoying you team can’t write your answer down instead of constantly asking. I’m going with a tubal if I have a csection or hubby is getting a vasectomy if I don’t. My providers have confirmed every appointment if I’m sure I want a tubal and that I know it’s permanent. I finally got paperwork signed at the last one so hopefully we’re good to go now.
@night_nurse I have one that tends to have really high fevers. Something that has been helpful for me in managing her scary high fevers is to remember to evaluate the person not the number. After years of sickness with her, I know to expect her temperature readings to be higher than her siblings. My H gets really high fevers as well which are actually much more challenging because I can't manage him as effectively!
Re: BC we've used NFP/Fertility Awareness for almost 15 years and it's worked very well for us. I am happy to share more if it is helpful. We are considering something more permanent after this baby.
@ceclarlinetlo im think I'm going to do Slynd also! I've had hormonal iuds for the past 8 years and they worked great, since the regular pill gives me migraines. But I think I want to maintain having a period this go round so I'm more familiar with my normal cycle, and don't have to schedule a Dr appointment when we decide to start trying for number 2.

A question from my mom who still watches cable with commercials - apparently pregnant people can get an RSV vaccine that protects the fetus (marginally) from getting in. Anyone do this/go this route? Midwife hasn't brought it up yet and I think I'd be a few weeks off from getting it since I'm currently 29 weeks but figured I'd crowd source here.
@pocketrose I got mine at 34 weeks. No side effects and it protects bebe for six or so months after birth which was important to me when he's being born in the middle of cold/flu season
@pocketrose I got it last week at 35 weeks. I had a tiny bit of soreness at the injection site but nothing terrible. I had to ask my doctor what he thought about it he didn’t bring it up. I had to get it at Walgreens because they didn’t have it.
Welp I guess my body doesn't like going past 37 weeks. In hospital for high BP and they're doing the c section today. Don't forget me for the FB group please haha
