The Baby Name Thread

What names are in the running? Names you like but your partner doesn't? Names you love but won't be using? Let's hear them, naming a baby is hard! I'm sure we could also use some extra inspiration and someone to bounce names off of.

Re: The Baby Name Thread

  • So still super early, but wanted to get a few of the big threads started!

Names... my husband loves Lily for a girl. I like the idea of Lilyana so that she has a "full" name for adulthood if she wants to use it, lol. For a boy, maybe Greyson? My husband isn't convinced though, lol.
  • Loading the player...
  • I prefer Grayson over Greyson. People will spell his name wrong constantly if you use an e.

If this is a boy, his name will be Hunter. If it’s a girl, not sure. My husband wants an H name but there aren’t girl H names I really like. Harriet is the only one I think I could go for—but even then I’m not sure.

Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022

  • I always see it spelled Greyson, lol! Maybe a regional thing? But that is actually something that worries me about that name - I like easy to spell names, lol. My son is Michael, which everyone knows how to spell lol.

I love the name Hunter! I agree that girl H names are harder.
  • @bserena I do think it’s regional, I prefer spelling grey with an E but it’s totally your preference. I think Grayson is more popular in the US?
  • Well, guess I’m wrong there! Maybe I just prefer A?

I’m also pro-easy to spell names. I have a lot of strong name opinions!

Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022

  • @bserena my friends liked Lily so they went with Lillian to have a more formal full name

@catem07 What about Harper or Hazel?
  • I’ve had the name Elizabeth June, Ella June for short, picked out for a couple years for a girl but I have no idea what we will name if the baby is a boy 😅
  • We’re heading a girl, found out via sneak peek. We’re naming her Zoe Blake :)
  • Having * !
  • I have a long running list already, but so far my partner and I are leaning towards Lyra and Rory.
Still need to work on middle names, but we have a while lol
  • My two bigs have L names, and I didn’t really plan to do an L again, but it depends on if it’s a boy or girl. There are like no other L boy names I like. But girl names, maybe. DH says he’d like to do another L. Lenore? Leona? I actually like the idea of Elizabeth (Lizzie) for an L, but not sure what he thinks. My brother also has an ex named Elizabeth so maybe I can’t do that. Ha!

Lillian (Lily) is a family name.

My dad passed suddenly in 2020 and he was my favorite person in the world and even though I already named my son after him I’d kinda want to name a girl too. Is Erica a name that a gen alpha girl would feel weird having, do you think?

My H and I have a list of about 12 names right now that we both like but nothing is really jumping out at me yet. I knew girl names would always be harder for me. Our sons name was pretty easy as it was my fav boy name for a long time. My H likes names that are common, easy-to-spell, & pronounce. Our last name starts with La so that makes flow difficult with some names. I’m kinda stuck. My grandma’s middle name was Elizabeth so I might use that as a middle, unless we go with Eliza for a first then I’ll pick something else for a middle.
  • Naming my twin boys Lucien and Damien 💙
  • We aren’t finding out the gender so working on both genders. So far we love Griffin and Leo for a boy and Mckinley and Marlowe for a girl.
  • Really struggling finding girl names we agree on. We both seem to lean towards gender neutral names, but they are not overlapping at all! I like Kodi, Shea, Palmer, Wren, Shiloh, and Shawn, H likes Peyton, Rory, Jodi, Piper, Sam.
  • I used this app last time with my H. It gives you names and you swipe right or left depending on if you like it or not. And it shows you what names are “matched” with your partner. It was fun!

  • How’s everyone doing with names? We are waiting until official confirmation that she’s a girl (next wed) before we narrow down our list. There’s 16 names so far that I’ve been adding to. Which is pretty good I think considering H has specific criteria for names 😂 nothing is jumping out at me as the one though. I know once we pick I’ll love it especially when I see her. H picked my 2 dogs names from a list I gave him, so I’m hoping he’s helpful like that with this baby.

@virtaur, is it normal to hate all names?! I think we are becoming more and more convinced that we gave all of the good names to our doggos!

    Scout Harper 🩷 🐕
    Finnley Huck 💙 🐕
  • I had a boy name already picked out, but we found out we're having a girl. So now I'm struggling - I love so many girl names, it's hard to narrow then down! 😅 My husband has taken to watching (good) movie credits for name ideas. I'm curious to see the list he comes up with lol.
  • Still have absolutely no idea what to name this kid. My H is not in a hurry to even talk about it. Which, fair. We took the whole pregnancy to decide on my daughter. My son we already knew the boy name we wanted. So this second boy is likely gonna take until May too. Lol. I have a list I’ve been adding to, but sometimes I go back and remove them after thinking for awhile.
  • @stress_engine I think so!! It makes me anxious because this giving a name to a whole person! And I think it’s especially hard when you “like” a few names but nothing is jumping out as “love” so I end up worried that I’m going to make the wrong choice! & those are cute animal names!! My dogs are Cora & Luna!

@denise_amd same with the girl names! For my son his name was always a favorite of mine and stuck out. I got lucky that my H said yes to it! For this girly who knows what we’ll pick lol I look at movie credits too 🤣

@HGRich I keep thinking we’ll be naming ours last minute too but I really have no idea. I try not to bug H about it. I just send him a name here and there and he either says it’s good or vetoes it haha
  • We’ve decided on naming our baby boy Wesley Brooks 😊 Brooks is a family name on my husband’s side and was used as my husband’s middle name and he wanted to continue it; Wesley was a name we both had on our lists. If we hadn’t gone with Wesley, his name would have been Andrew Brooks
  • I had had a girl’s name in mind for a long time, and I think not having any ideas for boys was a pretty big factor in my being afraid it might turn out to be a boy. I finally found a couple options I like last week, and my husband seems to like them too, which is a huge relief! It makes it much easier to imagine either scenario and takes away at least a little of the anxiety about the anatomy scan 🩷
  • We have 2 girls already: Lucrezia Adelaide & Alienor Catherine (my husband is French)

baby #3 is also a girl 🤪her name is: Abilene Etta

hoping #4 in the future will be a boy so we can use our only boy name - happens to start with an L which would make 2 L names & 2 A names 😂🤞
  • Naming a baby is indeed a challenging yet exciting journey! It's common for partners to have different tastes in names, which makes the process even more interesting. For instance, one might adore classic names like "Oliver" or "Emma," while the other leans towards more unique names like "Aspen" or "Luna." It's all about finding that perfect balance.

Names that are often loved but not used can range from those with personal significance to those that are a bit too bold or unconventional. Think of names like "Aurora," "Phoenix," or "Willow" – enchanting, yet sometimes set aside for various reasons.

As for pet names, they can be a great source of inspiration too! Names like "Baxter," "Coco," or "Ziggy" often carry a playful and endearing quality that can translate well into a baby's name, adding a touch of joy and whimsy.

Remember, choosing a name is a personal journey. It's about what resonates with you and your partner, creating a special bond and identity for your little one. Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas; bouncing names off someone else can often lead to that perfect choice!
  • DH and I had a convo about baby names last night and we’re both super stumped. Like I feel like I don’t really have a starting place. I have a list and he vetoed about a third of it which is a good start I guess, but then he doubled down that he wants to make an L name work and honestly I’m trying to honor his request because having a strong opinion at all is frankly helpful. But I’m also confused why this is a hill he’ll die on when for me I’d rather pick a name I love than force this kid to have the same first initial as his siblings. 😭
There just aren’t many L boy names I like.
Lochlan—he thinks it’s too hard to say.
Logan—we have a friend who we see once every two years or so who have sons named Liam and Logan (we already have a Liam) and she said she wouldn’t be bothered at all by that since we rarely see each other and live far away but he thinks it would be weird.
Otherwise, nada. I’m not into the rest. I’m not sure how we’ll ever agree.
  • @HGRich oh gosh that’s hard. Tell him if he wants an L name that bad he needs to find one yall both like 🤣
  • Levi is pretty cute!
  • @louloumama I don’t mind it, and its even a family name, but shared by men I don’t like that much. Lol. And I’m trying to avoid any Lee sounds because my son is Liam and that feels too close. Ugh I’m stumped.
  • @HGRich idk if you want suggestions but….
    Louis/louie/Lewis
    Lucas/Luca
    Luke
    Landon
    Lars
    Larson
    Lennon/Lennox
    Lincoln
    Leland
    Langston
    Lance
    Lyle
    Larkin
    Lynx
    Link
    Loren
    Leonard
  • @virtaur I feel like I’ve exhausted every L name, but suggestions can help. I feel like I can’t do Louis because that’s too close to Lucy which is DD’s name, and Leland is cool but too close to Liam which is DS. I keep running into that problem.
  • @HGRich ahhhh yeah it’s hard especially since you don’t want them too similar. I think even a 2 syllable 4 letter name that doesn’t start with L would work with your sibset!
  • My favorite boy name is Leon/Leo
  • @bserena loveeee the name Noah ;)

we haven’t finalized anything yet. I’ve just been pondering names and seeing what grows on me. Will probably pick by 30 weeks!
