Re: Questions Mega Thread

  • @lemonbump23 I usually have the opposite problem of having a lot more discharge throughout my pregnancy. But I don't think discharge is indicative of really anything overall.

  • My question requires a little backstory, but essentially is around telling adult stepchildren about the pregnancy...

This is my first pregnancy and my husband is older than me with 2 kids, both over 20 (he started young and there is a little bit of an age gap between us). The oldest did NOT want him to have any more kids, which he has talked to her about before, but now that I'm pregnant, he's worried that this will put a huge strain on their relationship. He's concerned that she may pull away and stop talking to him. We are telling them this weekend...

I love his kids. They were adults when I met them, so we don't really have a stepmom/child relationship. I try not to put a label on it, since I'm sure it's awkward for them.

I want to share this with them in a way that shows them that their dad isn't replacing them, and that he still loves them. I want to make sure we make time to visit with them and I want to give them the option of being as involved with their half sibling as they are comfortable with.

There are a bunch of articles out there on how to bring up the conversation with kids from toddler to school age, but no advice on how to approach it with adult stepchildren... You'd think it'd be easy to communicate with adults, but knowing that they aren't going to take the news well has really put a damper on things. Any ideas?
  • Anyone using SneakPeek? We should get our results this weekend and I'm so nervous. In the UK we have to use the old version, so it's more likely to be contaminated, but I have a classroom full of children who are dying to know before the end of the school year. We are doing out NIPT probably during the first week of June, so that should clarify it, but still.

I had not heard about that before you said it! We will be doing NIPT next week, so don't really need it, but seems like a great resource for anyone who wants to find out early and cannot get NIPT!
  • I sent mine in yesterday!
  • @princesspyro1018 that really is a delicate situation. I too have step children, but they are 12 and 9 and have been asking for a sibling-  I’ve been part of their life for almost 8 years, so our relationship is different. But I understand your challenge

I would suggest you and your husband try and put yourself in their shoes to understand their feelings better, but then explain that you want nothing more than for this new addition to have the absolute best older siblings!  We don’t use the word half or step in our house, and I would suggest the same if it’s something they would be okay with. This will be their little brother or sister, that’s it. Blood ties make them family and not a replacement, but a way to bring you all closer through a new addition.

It sounds like it might be a tough convo, and they might need time to come to terms with it, but i would ask for their input and keep them involved as much as you can and they are willing.   Let us know how it goes, and I’m here for you ☺️
  • @snoopygirl16

    (Continued convo from Ultrasound Thread):

SO = superovulation? Bc yes I used medications (letrozole tablets + gonal-f injections) to force superovulation.

My situation was that everything was normal or above average for both myself and my partner but we couldn’t seem to get pregnant on our own for some reason :( unexplained infertility.

Finally IUI worked and now we’re just concentrating on staying pregnant w these little bubbas ❤️ …it doesn’t feel real sometimes though lol

Your doctor is right though, the fact that a gestational sac and yolk sac were present at such an early scan is a good sign.

    Wishing you the best!!!
  • Hi everyone!

I had my first ultrasound at 8 wks (now 10 wks) and my doctor said they found a “bleed site” in my uterus.

I was diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma and she basically explained it as implantation bleeding that’s stuck in between my uterine wall and the forming placenta.

I’ve heard it’s harmless and can result in some spotting/bleeding but not to worry— but of course, I am STILL worried.

Anyone else have this, and what was the outcome?
  • @misskrysalys Thank you for your response and support! Yeah good point, I think we are just going to stick with the term 'siblings' or 'sisters' and not add additional labels to it. I definitely understand where they are coming from, it's an uncomfortable situation for them. I know my husband has been anxious about telling them, and we are really hoping it goes better than anticipated.

I've been brainstorming and I think I've settled on this. I am going to give them each a necklace or bracelet with a letter 'from baby' all about how baby will be looking up to them and looks forward to meeting them. I won't put the whole thing on here, but here's a quote from it that I really like:

"I know that my arrival will bring changes and adjustments to our family dynamic, but please remember that you are just as important and cherished as you've always been. I'm joining a family that already loves you deeply, and I look forward to being a part of the love and joy that you bring to our lives."

I'm really hoping to emphasize that although there will be changes, they will always be loved. We are telling them Sunday, so fingers crossed!
  • @princesspyro1018 that sounds really sweet! I’m sure they’ll be surprised by the token and so touched. Little things like that, will I’m sure, go a long way!  Let us know how Sunday goes! I’m sure it’ll be better than you think :)
  • @knottie69f2953659183260 I was told I had I subchorionic hematoma at my first ultrasound at 7w4d—I’m now at 11w6d and definitely still pregnant and haven’t had any complications or bleeding. I go back for another ultrasound in a few days so I’ll know for sure whether it’s gone or not 🤞 It is definitely scary hearing news like that but subchorionic hematomas, especially this early on in a pregnancy, rarely cause complications! You and your baby should be just fine!

If you do start bleeding, just make sure to pay attention to how much it is and the color and if it’s concerning call your ob. Other than that you just gotta wait it out 🤷‍♀️
  • @doodledot i finally managed to find this thread! hahaha

oic.. we both seems to be in the same situation .

mine was also SOIUI. is this your first try ?

yea. i hope so too .. my hubby is also asking me to stay chill.. he keep telling me all will be fine.

but after trying for 3 years and finally a first positive . i cant help but be more worried than anything :(

fingers crossed.. i have one more week to go for my "unknown" week scan..
  • @knottie69f2953659183260 I had a subchorionic hematoma during my last pregnancy. The hematoma itself isn't dangerous if it's small/not interfering with the placenta. If your doctor isn't worried I'm sure it's fine!

Ohhh this makes me feel a little better. I feel super paranoid but should be having my next ultrasound next week and I’m really hoping all is well!

@snoopygirl16 Hey!! Sorry I missed your messages, we had the Victoria Day long weekend here so it’s been busy :)

Yes this was our first IUI and we couldn’t believe that it worked! We were already on the waiting list for IVF and would have proceeded with that in July if 3 rounds of IUI didn’t work.

We had also been TTC for 3 years - 2 of those years with fertility assistance.

Was this your first round too?
Your husband sounds like a logical guy haha and a great support but I know it’s tough to “stay chill” believe me. I know. I’ve googled too much in these 3 years. It’s normal to be anxious but I am hoping that everything works out positively for you in the end! 💕
  • @doodledot nice to have a long weekend.. hahaha.. i am hoping to get some rest from work .. but seems impossible.

nice!! mine was also first IUI. i was so surprised that it worked too . as i told my husband we will try 3 rounds.. if nothing we will just live life as 2 person if it is not meant to be ..
but i literally did nothing for the tww.. and did everything possible to increase the chances that i could.

yeah.. he's a logical guy .. but sometimes i would feel like is he not worried at all ?

hahaha, but i feel he is secretly more worried den anyone else.

the amount of stuffs i have been googling since march is insane..

i have 4 more days to go for my scan .. i am so scared and worried ..
it doesnt help when i dont have much symptoms except for backaches and cramps..

hoping for the best on monday morning..
    its a long wait .. :(

  • @princesspyro1018
We are doing our NIPT June 5th but because were military and overseas it could take up to two months to get results back, so I just didn't want to wait. We will wait to get the results before we start buying anything gendered though.
  • @doddledot
i m back . the scan is not fantastic.. there is very little growth and sonographer could not see the baby's hb .

    im 3-4 weeks behind schedule..

though now a fetal pole can be seen ..

another scan to be in 2 weeks time to see the progress. if still unable to detect the baby's hb.. means not gd news.

  • @snoopygirl16

Hey babe, I’m sorry your scan didn’t go as you’d hoped.

Presence of a fetal pole now is something positive though. I’m really hoping your next scan has a better outcome.

Sending you lots of love + hugs.
  • @doodledot

hihi , ya.. was so upset ytd that i cried so badly..

my gynae said that dont be disheartened yet . as she mentioned the fetal pole and the yolk sac is  very nicely shaped.

hoping that the baby's heartbeat can be seen 2 weeks later ..

its another agonising 2 weeks wait again . :(
i cant be only 5w4days as my IUI was done on the 8th ..

but the "funny" thing is that if i count my first implantation bleeding, it works out to be exactly 5w4 days. .. but i cant be tested positive on the day of implantation bleeding. .

praying for the best now. .
  • Hi everyone! 11wks 4 days today and I’ve noticed that my nausea has been significantly less severe the last couple of days.

Did any of you ladies experience that at this stage? I feel like it’s too early for my hormones to level out! Maybe it’s just a fluke and I’ll be sick again tomorrow.

In the meantime, stressing that it means something is wrong with my little lime :(
  • The nausea comes and goes. I wouldn’t be too worried about it! Enjoy the time while it’s away :)
  • Nausea comes and goes and with all of my pregnancies has gotten significantly better towards the end of the first trimester. Enjoy the days without it and let’s hope the second trimester says goodbye to nausea and hello to new found energy!
  • Mine still comes and goes I wouldn’t worry too much about it 😁
  • I’ll be 14 weeks on Thursday and I can already feel and see a difference! Praying for the rest of mamas and that they’ll get that boost and start feeling better soon too 😁
  • @misskrysalys Same here!! I will hit 14 weeks on Wednesday and the last week or so, I’ve had so much more energy and an appetite!! And totally hear ya on the light headed piece… I fainted last week after standing outside for about an hour. After a visit with my doctor, I’m making sure to drink plenty of electrolytes and not push myself too much to try to keep it from happening again!
  • @makenzie_e oh my!  As someone that’s fainted before being pregnant, I can’t imagine how scared that made you! Glad all is okay! It really is hard to slow down when you finally start to feel like your pre-baby self again I find. I’ve been back to exercising and my long dog walks again, and I’m really hoping that makes for an easier birth and recovery lol 🤞🏽
  • Is everyone getting bombarded with cord blood banking ads? I’m curious if anyone has done it and think it’s worth it?
  • anybody having any crazy cravings?  I haven’t yet, other than I’m always hot, so want cold things right now

Did you get your results? How did it go?
  • We did sneak peek at 8 weeks and got our results (girl). Confirmed when we got our NIPT results back at 11 weeks!

I also had a similar experience!  Right when I hit  11 weeks it seemed like all my nausea and fatigue nearly went away. Now it just comes and goes
  • Has anyone had experience with developing an inguinal hernia during pregnancy? I have had a small bump (linear and thin, almost like a raised vein) appear twice in my groin area over the past week, and both times disappeared after 24-36 hours. I had my 14 week appointment today, and since the bump was not visible today, the dr made a best guess that it’s an inguinal hernia….
  • Who has felt quickening/baby kicks  already???
im 16 weeks and knowing it can start anytime has me too mindful of my belly lol

@sharkandbark I have it feels like muscle twitches…
  • I have this feeling like someone is snapping an elastic band in my belly. Thought it was baby movements as well.
  • I’m 18 weeks today and have felt it lightly in the past 2 weeks. But this morning the baby was really moving and I could very clearly feel it. Exciting to feel!
  • And I thought the muscle twitches were the ligament pain lol maybe I have been feeling baby moving around this whole time and didn’t know it ☺️
  • I know I’ll feel the baby move anytime and I’ve been so excited for that first little feeling!
