Re: Questions Mega Thread

  • Has anyone had higher than normal HCG? I've tested three times so far. Yesterday I was 5 weeks and above 9000 and the range for 5 weeks was 200-7000 something. It's been high for all three, but I know I am for sure 5 weeks along. Doctor hasn't mentioned it so I'm not worried, just curious.

  • When did/will you all tell your older children about the pregnancy? Kids are a bit older 9 and almost 13.
  • I have a 3yo, and we told her right away the first time around. She new before my husband did because she helped me with the surprise. But dealing with her grief on top of my own when we lost the pregnancy was rough. So we are holding off until we are in the all clear.

  • Hi there! Mariane here! I’m 6 weeks 6 days today! Is it normal when symptoms disappear the next morning? I’ve been experiencing some bloating, sore breasts and some nausea but it’s like they’re practically gone since yesterday! Should i be worried?
  • Fruit and lemonade!!!! I can't get enough.
  • @mariane1214 symptoms can definitely come and go. They aren't an indication either way 🥰

Thank you 🙏 so no symptoms (after having them) doesn’t signal anything bad? @stashattack

@storkin30s   My bonus kids are the same age as yours- were telling them this weekend. I’ll be 9 weeks

@mariane1214 I wouldn’t be worried. I’m a first time mom- but my symptoms have come and gone. Some days they’re strong, others I feel like I almost did post pregnancy.  I’m 8.5 weeks now and it’s constantly evolving I’m finding
  • @mariane1214 correct. Symptoms can come and go without meaning anything bad.

  • @storkin30s Our daughters are 5,3,&1. We are going to wait until 8 weeks to tell them. ❤️ They will tell everyone if we tell them now and I’d like to not tell everyone just yet haha
  • @travistori whole mine are older they will most definitely still tell everyone. We are also not really to announce it just yet but it’s killing me not to tell them!

Went for an ultrasound around 6 weeks 2 days. Saw a heartbeat flicker but wasn’t able to listen to it. Was told I have a misshapen gestational sack. We saw the fetal pole and everything. Then when the doctor got the snapshots of the ultrasound they said I had a misshapen gestational sac, no definitive fetal pole, and no definitive heartbeat. Keep in mind the doctor only had snapshots not videos. But my gestational sac measured correctly. Was it just too early for this ultrasound? I have another one on the 5th. Also have had brown spotting since the ultrasound. Anyone had anything similar to this and had a healthy baby?
  • 6w2wd is still early. A fetal pole should be detectable. I would definitely ask for clarification from your dr.

  • I think you are our first multiples mom! Congrats.  A lot of people here still haven't had their first ultrasound yet so I'd suspect that to change. In my 2020 bump group we had 3 twins moms. I've only ever had singletons so I don't have any first hand experience. But definitely be prepared for an early delivery. Multiples run out of room faster and come sooner.

other than that welcome. If there are more of y'all I'll definitely do a monthly multiples checkin. 🥰

  • So I know deli meat isn't safe unless microwaved to steaming right before eating, but what category does chicken salad fall in? My family is having a get together tomorrow and we're waiting to tell everyone, but they're serving Costco chicken salad sandwiches and I feel like it'll be a big giveaway if I don't eat it. When I Google it, it says "commercial chicken salad is safe, but store bought might not be safe for pregnancy." So which category does Costco chicken salad fall in, commercial or store bought?"
  • @jordieburd I believe Costco uses their leftover rotisserie chickens for their salad, so I would say you’re safe :) and now I want that for lunch!
  • dmcg17dmcg17 member
@jordieburd Honestly, when I asked my doctor about lunch meat, she said that the reason it's not recommended is because it MIGHT have listeria, but you have a higher likelihood of getting listeria from bagged salad than lunch meat anyway. I think you should be fine!
  • @misskrysalys ok thank you! And yes, it's crazy how just the mention of one food sounds so good that that's the only thing you want. Yesterday we watched Bluey and they made and omelet and that's all I wanted the rest of the day.
  • @jordieburd I miss eggs! Haha I’ve had a pretty strong meat aversion and it’s driving me nuts. I can eat them cold, so chicken salad or tuna, but it’s the smell of cooking that makes me want to puke

FTM and first pregnancy. Super lucky that I have ALL the symptoms and I just hit 7 weeks. 🙃 I have them all. Some of the "lighter" ones prior to my + at 4 weeks, with the more "taxing" ones within days after. I am struggling to make it through the days.

Is that seriously possible to have it all this bad? Are singles this strong or does my OB need to check for multiples at my 1st appt this Friday? TIA
  • @jax_z I have also had alllll the symptoms since about 5ish weeks. I had my first ultrasound at 7w2d and there’s just the one baby ☺️ From what I understand, symptoms are so personal for each person that they aren’t an indicator of multiples. Only an ultrasound can confirm that, which they will check for anyways regardless of symptoms.

My doc advised Vitamin B and Unisom and it has made a world of difference for my nausea. My back pain comes and goes. I’m always exhausted, but I just accept that as part of building a human! Hang in there! It gets better…so I’m told 😅
  • Just checking with you all- what are your thoughts on travel at this stage in pregnancy? I have to go to Paris for work next week (at 11 weeks preggo). I got the green light from my doctor but my family is advising against it as they think it could cause a miscarriage. Have any of you traveled in a previous pregnancy or have any thoughts on it?

I travelled on a flight domestically (so not quite Paris…) at 6 weeks. I have not heard anything from reputable sources about travel causing miscarriage. If your doc gave you the green light and you’re feeling well, I’d say go for it!!! (With the caveat that im not a doc so take my opinion with a grain of salt lol).
my MIL was warning me against carrying the groceries inside because she was “worried about the baby”.  I’m pretty sure our bodies are a lot tougher than what our parents generation were taught.
  • I went to Europe and back. Got my BFP two days after I got back. Everything is progressing normally! My doc says no problems with travel til 3rd trimester.
  • Travel isn't warned against until like 36w, which tbh getting on a plane would be the LAST thing I'd want to do at that point 😅 so go enjoy Paris and tell your family that you'll listen to your medical professionals when it comes to medical advice. Good practice for when the baby comes too cuz lots have changed since we were kids and the parents will push back on the new recommendations too 🙃

  • Hello everyone!

I’m 9 weeks pregnant today! My main cravings are milk and fruit, especially watermelon. However, I’m lactose intolerant so life ain’t easy 😂.

This is my fourth pregnancy, with three prior miscarriages. So I’m a bit nervous about loosing this one too… can anyone relate? I know the chance are like 4% at 9 weeks but still I’m constantly thinking about it..

I was wondering if anyone knew how accurate the chances are that if you crave certain things you are expected to have a girl, and craving others a boy? My family is convinced it’s a girl because of my NEED for milk and fruit. But my husband and I are hoping for a boy. I know it’s too soon to tell, but I was hoping y’all could share your thoughts?!?
  • @samantha_schmitz_00 welcome! To answer you second question, unfortunately, symptoms/craving have no scientific evidence that points to what sex your baby will be. All of those myths about that are just old wives tales. But if you plan on doing the NIPT testing, you aren't too far out from finding out the sex!

As your first question, I'm so sorry about your previous losses. It's the worst. We do have a weekly Pregnancy After Loss (PGAL) thread on thursdays for all of us who have gone through losses before. We'd love to have you there with us. You definitely aren't alone in that.

@samantha_schmitz_00 So sorry to hear of your previous losses - as @stashattack said, we go have the PGAL thread which is a great support system with others that can understand what you're going through.

Also, how early can you find out the sex? I've heard lots of different things and at my last appointment my doctor said that during my next one we can do genetic testing (it's a week from today, so I'll be 10w4d) so I'm very anxious to understand what we can find out then.
  • @dmcg17 if you are getting the NIPT testing done next week, which is the genetic test for the trisomy's around 10ish weeks, you can also find out the sex. Basically, just like looking at genetic make up abnormalities, they can also look for the sex chromosomes. Or in reality looking for the presence of the "y" chromosome specifically. The test results I got back the first time around the sex portion literally was written as "is y chromosome present, yes or no".

@stashattack Oh wow! I didn't realize you could find out so early! I'd love to know before we share the news.
  • @parthi_baby does taking unisom with the B6 make you sleepy since unisom is a sleeping pill? I've been tempted to try it but don't want to feel even more tired than I am!
  • Curious how everyone is doing Symptom wise... I'm 10w5d and the symptoms are still coming and going is that normal?  Some days I've got some aches in the tummy and other days it seems completely normal and back to myself.  Happy Mothers day!
  • wegmapwegmap member
@kmarino134567 I hear there is no such thing as “normal” and that everyone is different… I’m 9 week 0 days and the nausea has really ramped up the past few days. Before this since about 5 weeks the nausea was mild and intermittent - with some days feeling almost normal. Now I’m nauseous all day, vomiting multiple times (including middle of the night, which makes it hard to get any quality sleep). I’ve taken sick days the past two days. Really hoping this is just a quick blip and doesn’t last long 🤞
  • @jordieburd I take just 1/2 pill at night before bed. I was extra groggy for the first day or two, but now I’m back to normal.
  • I’m 9 weeks and feeling normal! I had nausea the past few weeks but that has gone away. I don’t feel like my stomach is getting harder. I’m so paranoid that I am no longer pregnant. I have an appt for blood work in a week and a half but I’m wondering how anyone gets through the in between weeks with no symptoms !
  • wegmapwegmap member
@bethlevi29 I definitely feel that anxiety!!!  I just try to remind myself that the stats are TOTALLY weighed in our favor. Over 95% odds (give or take) of NOT miscarrying at 9 weeks?  Even less if you’ve seen a heartbeat? That’s pretty dang good!
Also from everything I’ve heard, it’s SUPER common for nausea to just magically disappear (with baby still being healthy).
  • We’ll I know I’ve read often enough that symptoms are just old wives tales but I’ve had a sting feeling with all four of my babies very early on… 6-8 weeks… if it’s boy or girl and it’s been right the first three so we’ll see about this one 🤷‍♀️ with the boys I felt like I glowed and had almost no nausea compared to how awfully sick and pimply and yuck I felt with my daughter. I’m guessing this one is a girl by how I’ve felt but ya. It could easy just be that I guessed right the last three and it was coincidence that I got more nausea with my girl.
  • This might be TMI but this is my first pregnancy and I'm noticing a symptom that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere so I'm hoping one of you wonderful fellow pregos might be able to give some advice. I'm noticing that during intimacy with my partner I'm not as well lubricated as I usually am. Is this normal? Could it be a sign of something else like dehydration? I feel like I'm drinking so much water but maybe I need to drink more.
