Loving all these names!! Lilah is so pretty! Nikolai is so unique! Jo/Jolene and any form of that is just so little women power vibe. Alexander is one my husband and I really like too for a boy (potentially shortened to Lex).
We have had such a hard time agreeing on a girls name and we finally found one that’s in the running right now. I absolutely know in my soul that my parents and in laws will hate it but we love it so it doesn’t matter to us. We’re trying not to pick a definite name yet and just keep testing things out until we get closer to baby day and maybe finally find out the gender.
@heytallmama I was 9 when my brother was born and my sister was 7. My parents got us a frog tank to test out the names that we were very adamant about - Gilligan and Skipper were our favorites (a little too much Nick at Night for us). We got to name the frogs and my parents got to name the baby. It was oddly a win-win.
@disneybaby23 What a cool story about the frogs! I love that!
We are usually those people who have to pick a name on discharge day because we come unprepared or undecided. DS left with a name I had previously wanted and H initially did not like but then ended up suggesting once he was born. DD was very hard to pick a name for but ultimately we decided on one. This time around I think we are more set. If it’s a boy we will use the name we would have used for DD and if it’s a girl I’m pretty sure she would get the runner up name we had for DD. Not sure about middle names yet.
Our kids are so silly they have yet to suggest a serious name. Except “Ivan” because their names also start with I. Not our style haha! Runners up include “cookoo clock” and “toilet.” I don’t think they will be sad if we go ahead and pick the name. 🤣
@disneybaby23 I love that story about the frogs! I mean if I can convince H for a second dog, I will absolutely let our daughter name it 😂 We had a fish for a while, Tanky, “because he lived in a tank.” She was 5 then, so at least her names have gotten more legit 🙃
@nopegoat he likes names like Van (part of my maiden name), Brady, Aldrin, Walker, Grayson, Anderson, Nathaniel (his bff's name), charlie, river, Rhett and I just am not feeling them.
We’re thinking Addison or Charlotte for a girl, or William or Waylon for a boy. My husband told me today that he’s leaning towards William, but I still like Waylon. 🤷🏼♀️ Good thing we have time 😂
I love all the toddler chosen names. Lol. Those are great. I think Santa is my favorite so far.
My mom recently in absolute seriousness floated Rocket and Jet as requested grandchild names. She was like “won’t they sound so cool when they catch the game winning goal with a name like Rocket?” I think my mom forgets that our kid is barely going to be 5 feet tall probably with asthma and glasses. Chances of being a football star are slim to none. Lol
We are having another little boy and we are naming him Maverick Dean ( Dean) is after my grandfather .. my first son is Max Sheridan after my husband’s grandfather.. so we will have the Max Man and Mav Man ❤️
As most everyone I’m sure knows I’m expecting twins.. I have my boy names picked out if they are boys.. I need help with girl names.. my husband has been no help whatsoever with any girl names I’ve picked 🤦🏻♀️
My mom and MIL are Sandy and Carmenza, so I thought that if I ever have twin girls, I'd name them Carmen and Cassandra. Not because I'm crazy about those names or would necessarily use either name separately (I like them well enough and am sure I could come to love them), but it would just be so meaningful and they go together well. Maybe for pregnancy #2!
OK, someone else's turn to throw out girl names to help you brainstorm
Girls names I like but probably won’t be using for various reasons:
Hannah Charlotte Mira Piper Amelia Eleanor
I personally am Team “name twins names you like, not necessarily what goes together” because truthfully they will spend more time apart in life than together as a set.
One of my close friends is a twin and her big complaint was having a matching name with her sister - they are Karly and Kally (super confusing and tongue tying). But we also know a twin pair Luke and Liam and they just sound adorable together.
If you don't want them "Matchy" but still want them to go together you could do famous women in history. Something like... (Just using the first name, I added the last to make sure they were recognizable lol)
Bessie coleman and Amelia Earhart (famous pilots)
Florence Nightingale (Founder of modern nursing) and Clara Barton (founder of the red cross)
Sylvia and Christabel (daughters of Emmeline in the Britian Suffraget movement)
Louisa Alcott and Charlotte Bronte (famous authors)
Cherilyn (Cher) and Betty (White) female entertainers with badass female quotes in life
Maria Mayer and Rosalind Franklin (famous female scientists)
My mom's friend who died in July had the initials TJ (Tonya Jean) and last night we were thinking of T names to honor her. Both my husband and I like Terra, like land, although I'm not sure if I'm sold on it....
@cheznet Terra is cute! I normally see Tara so it’s a really unique way to spice up a more traditional name. I had a good friend in college named Tierra and another friend I worked with named Tiana. There are lots of cute T names out there.
Husband and I finally decided yesterday that our tentative name is our name for the long haul - Peter. It’s one we thought of and agreed on before I was even pregnant and it’s stuck. I tested it out with my parents and they loved it. They already keep referring to him as Baby Petey. We are doing a fun/nontraditional middle name - Hawkeye (a fun M*A*S*H meets James Fenimore Cooper homage). It’s one he can use if he likes it or just use the H if he thinks it’s too silly. Initials will be PHD which we love and I know my in laws will love too.
Is anyone else getting the weirdest feedback from family? Yesterday my mother in law said we should name him Joey - my husband (her son) is Joseph so we thought that was kind of weird. Then she decided that a middle name with a U would be perfect and has send us the most bizarre non-pronounceable names since yesterday. I hope my husband tells her the name we picked out soon before she gets super set on something. Right now Joey Ulfin is her favorite and I’m not loving that one.
We finally decided on our name, barring any surprises (like the anatomy scan telling us a different gender). Aurora Faith, and we'll call her Ari as a nickname. We really wanted Faith in the name because we were told we couldn't get pregnant naturally. It also fits with our convention from our older daughter whose middle name is Joy. So I guess attributes for middle names is now our thing.
@disbeybaby23 We don’t discuss names at all with anyone because we don’t want weird suggestions or opinions. Butttt we take like three days after birth to settle on a name for our kids so we don’t have the best methods I don’t think 🤣.
Still no definite names, but DH has said he "likes" Claire and Josiah. So we'll see if he keeps liking them, or if we'll have to go back to the drawing board. No middle names picked yet.
Whelp, surprise of surprises, Husband randomly shared he likes the name "Ava," which is the name our daughter (7) has been excited about. He had no idea about that so looks like it's officially on the list.
I think we're looking at the following top contenders: Parker, Taylor, Madison (Maddie), Ava, Raegan ...pretty sure Parker and Taylor are the two front runners by a long shot
@cheznet - I love the nickname TJ! A close friend's daughter is nicknamed that; first name is Thisbe (Shakespearean origins).
@disneybaby23 we also don't discuss names with family. I learned from seeing my sister's tell them their names. Now I just say we haven't decided yet. With my daughter I told them they would find out when she's born.
@miss_lynn9 oh yeah, we definitely don't share names with family, either. very few friends know our name ideas, too. everyone's got an opinion! i remember my father in law was like "ugh, I just hope you don't pick a name that's one of those that can go for boys or girls" and I flat out was like, "Well, then you won't like our child's name." Our daughter's name is Harley. Imagine the Harley Davidson commentary we'd have gotten ahead of delivery if we'd shared that? Meeting the baby with the name removed commentary (at least commentary directed at us). Doesn't hurt her middle name is my sister's name and everyone loves a family vibe.
@disneybaby23 we learned a long time ago not to really share our name until we have decided unless we have it narrowed down to 2 and aren't leaning one way or the other which has only happened once.
Wife. Boy mom x6. Expecting #7. Wannabe homesteader. , 💙💙💙💙💙💙
We have not asked my mother in law at all about names. She has just been going crazy sending us name suggestions. We mostly just want to tell her our name to shut her up. My husband has a very strained relationship with her and she has a lot of very serious mental health issues so it’s so hard having real talk with her - trying to explain that we get to pick the kids name and not her is already pushing my husband to his limits. We try so hard to avoid tough/real conversations with her but now with baby coming it’s a whole new world of boundaries. I’m just glad my parents are supportive and have very minimal input/judgement so one set of parents are easy.
we’re 100% set on our first name and 99% on the middle so I’m not too worried sharing now. I’m fine if they don’t like it, doesn’t matter to me, but the unsolicited name suggestions are annoying and weird.

Having trouble thinking of second baby's name, and we aren't finding out gender so that makes it tougher!
