Trying to Get Pregnant

IF Testing & Treatment, w/o 07.04

This is a place for those of us who have already started TTC, but have started infertility testing and/or treatments. You can express your thoughts, feelings, and frustrations on infertility. TTC can be a long journey naturally, then add in the difficulties associated with infertility, and it becomes a whole new ballgame. The road to infertility can be lonely, frustrating, and complicated, so let's make this a place where we can vent, ask questions, and support one another. Feel free to resurrect this thread at any point in the week if you have something to say. Treat this as an ongoing conversation.

Diagnosis (if you've been):

Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched):

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?):

How are things going?:

Any questions?:

GTKY: What is a talent that you do not have that you wish you did have?
History
I am doing this on my own. Left ovary and fallopian tube removed due to cyst/necrosis just after birth. Right ovary and tube still purport to function.
Began TTC in Aug '18 @ age 35
5 or 6 (or 7?!) cycles using frozen donor sperm, ICI. All BFN
Mar-Jun '19 IUIs, all BFN
Began process of referral for RE in spring of '19, blood tests confirm low AMH (.54) but all else is good.
May '19 HSG shows open tube, but ultrasound suggests fibroids
MRI in June '19 confirms two large fibroids, one growing through wall of uterus
In June '19 I move from California to Oregon, disrupting my insurance, referrals, etc. 5 months spent piecing it all back together.
Nov. '19 attempted myomectomy (vaginal approach) failed. 2nd surgery using laparoscopic method in Jan '20 is successful.
April '20 --> June '20, natural IUIs, all BFN.
July? saline ultrasound and bubble test demonstrate open tube
July '20 clomid cycle cancelled for thin lining
Aug-Oct, 3 femara cycles, all BFN
RE referral. While waiting to set up an appointment Nov-Jan,I continue with natural cycles and ICI, using a known donor, BFN...
Jan '21 more bloodwork, AMH is worse (.30), FSH high albeit not catastrophic at 13.2. hysteroscopy all good. "looks cozy!" says the RE.
Feb '21, injectables (menopur, novarel), iui, BFN (doc said the frozen donor sperm sample had the "best numbers she'd ever seen!")
Mar '21, injectables, iui cancelled due to lack of follicles, converted to at home-insem. BFN
May '21, first IVF round cancelled due to cyst.
July '21 IVF: standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 7; 6 days of stims. 8 eggs retrieved, 7 mature, 5 fertilize, 4 made it to blast. 3 are 4AB, 1 is 4BB. PGT-A results all abnormal.
Oct '21 somewhat improved AMH (.51) and significantly improved FSH (8.9). Maybe it's all the pills I swallow.
Dec -21, standard antagonist. 225menupur/225gonal-f/cetrotide/5000u trigger, AFC 5; 11 days of stims. retrieval yields 5, 4M, 2 reach day-6 blast (4AB & 4BB). 1 low-level mosaic (chr. 3 deletion), 1 complex abnormal.
Feb '22 FET (low-level mosaic): CP.
May '22 egg retrieval, lupron flare protocol. HGH priming for 1 month before stims; md lupron 20/20u daily; menopur 225, follistim 225, 10k trigger after 8 days of stims; AFC 10; 13 retrieved; 10 mature; 8 fertilized. All frozen at 2PN for later thaw, grow, and biopsy.
July '22 egg retrieval same protocol: 9 days of stims; AFC 8; 10 retrieved, 8 mature, 4 fertilized and frozen.
Sept '22 ER same protocol: AFC 10; 12 retrieved, 11 mature, 11 fertilized.
From the 3 retrievals, 7 survived to day 5-6 blastocyst, from which I have 2 normal embryos!
Jan 20, Fully medicated FET, baby aspirin, dexamethasone, acupuncture, and as much woo as I can stand (which isn't very much). BFN.
July 23, Natural FET + baby aspirin. BFN.

  • @optimistgardener Haha, I totally thought of you when I was fuming about timing yesterday. I wouldn't have said no to a cup of swimmers just showing up on the bathroom counter, lol.
  • also just generally want to put it out there but I f**king hate TB's ads. I wasn't seeing them at all for a while but it seems they've figured out how to get around my ad blocking software. And all the ads right now are little babies drinking formula and gurgling cherubically.

I'm about to go brave downtown despite all the patriotic festivities but wanted to assert my shared mindset with you before i leave to do that... there's a slight chance that the B(ump)G(ods) might take your post down for profanity although they seem to be pretty lenient these days unless someone outright complains, but I totally 1000% feel ya.

@optimistgardener if you have the benefits I think I would do a third retrieval. If I had benefits I would have done another one.  Alas mambo completely OOP.

@rockstarmomma152 hugs love you can scream all you want.  I do it all the time, granted I see some f'd up stuff at work and I am like yet good "normal" humans cannot make/keep babies, cool. Also want to learn languages.

@anniemarie887 I am very jealous of your trip, I have never left the US. We have passports but I can't decide even where to go.

  • @anniemarie887 thanks for telling us about your trip! the delays with AC sound so awful, and give me flashbacks to my worst airport/train experiences. ugh. i hope you're able to recoup a little money from them. and yeah, i can't imagine what the eurostar process would be like post-brexit. . what a mess! as for the hysteroscopy, i had one but for me it was just as an exploratory thing. I had no sedation or painkiller, my RE just sent a teeny tiny camera up into my uterus, which i got to see the inside of on a screen as he looked for anything abnormal. he declared it "cozy" and sent me home with a photograph (which i still, like, have in a drawer in my desk because i can't figure out what to do with it? 🤷‍♀️). it was not painful at all. i'm sure for you it's mostly the same program, except they'll also be sending a scalpel or whatever up in there if they find something they can excise. i expect that your experience of the hysteroscopy and how "involved" it is will really vary depending on what they find and how complicated it is to correct, but i am hopeful for you that this will solve things!!

  • @emeraldduchess - oooh, jealous of your access to community theater! Nothing like that near where I live!
  • I'm back! These last 2 weeks have been a doozy, between having Covid, then "vacation" which had some very not-relaxing moments (airline lost 2/5 bags of bowling balls for our group, which was the whole reason we were going to Vegas in the first place. They found 1 but the last one never arrived so he had to buy all new equipment and then really struggled to get a feel for it so he was very disappointed to say the least). Toronto Pearson airport is a literal shit show, we had issues going down and flying home, but LAS and LAX were both totally fine and the rest of our trip was lovely. Especially LA when it was just MH and I and we didn't have to cater to the rest of the group.

@abjm0325 oof, I can so relate to that knee-jerk feeling of resentment when DH isn't "ready" and it's like, c'mon buddy, you have ONE job here... that was one of the things I struggled with the most and I don't know that I ever really learned to let it go.
@optimistgardener take this with a grain of salt coming from someone who has transferred 8 embryos with no LC as of yet, but if I were in your shoes I'd do the extra ER and bank as many as possible. God forbid you start transferring and it wasn't working, you may not want to/be able to do more ERs down the road and you'll be glad at that point to have more frozen. andplusalso, with your aneuploidy rate, more embryos gives you more chances at a normal one.
@rockstarmomma152 I'm so sorry for the BFN. I'm right there with you at the "screaming at the universe to stop f*cking with me" stage. I'm not really a God-fearing person but I do believe in some kind of higher power and whoever s/he may be, I'm real tired of their shit. Hopefully your doc can make some tweaks to your protocol to set you up for success.
@anniemarie887 ugghh where do I start? First off, so sorry you're having to be put under again for another hysteroscopy. That's so frustrating. Second, BLARG to Air Canada, they're not always a bad airline but they've really struggled post-pandemic. We're flying AC to Hawaii in Sept and really hope they get their shit together by then. So glad you had a nice trip outside of the travel nightmares, and YAY you made it to Kigawa! Thank YOU for the recommendation for Sugarfish, we went, we ate, we LOVED it. MH is still raving about it. Our uber driver thought we were weird to leave Little Tokyo to go find sushi elsewhere but we had already eaten our way through the local places, so glad we ventured elsewhere because it was so worth it.
@mambo5-2 oh sweet friend, I'm so very sorry for your BFN. Sending hugs and encouragement for this cycle <3
@emeraldduchess grr AF, where for art thou?

@optimistgardener i think i've filled out every possible form on air canada's website. and of course all of it is like we have 30 days to respond, and then the credit card co is like you have 60 days to file! so i feel like it's an annoying game of who's on first. ty for the deets re hysteroscopy, i am preparing for this to have a not so funy recovery like the 2nd d&c.
@kiki047 ughhhhh i'm sorry, have they still not located the bags? i am curious what the likelihood of getting any compensation from AC will look like. also, we routed thru Pearson on the way home... customs was so backed up they only allowed people with connections or disabilities to deplane at first. i wound up checking a bag b/c i was unaware that canada was so strict on the 3-1-1 liquid rule... the us doesn't care about the quantity as long as it's under 100ml. they thankfully survived. crews on all the flights said AC has been really bad for the last 2-3 mos, i hope it gets better in time for your Hawaii trip. and, i'm so glad you enjoyed Sugarfish! <3 lastly, the cycle/AF question... after covid my cycle was a few days shorter, but not any extended bleeding. i'm sorry, and i know how frustrating it is when your body isn't cooperating
@emeraldduchess i hope your body cooperates and AF shows up!
  • IVF friends are you AF after failed transfer just insane? Super heavy, lots of clots. This is a mess, literally.

  • @mambo5-2 oh yeah it was rivers of blood. i was actually doing a day-long interview thing on campus while this was ongoing, and had to keep fleeing to the bathroom in between meetings. some near disasters.
BFN.
  • @anniemarie887 they located one bag (WestJet) but Air Canada still hasn't located the other bag from a flight on June 25th. Ridiculous! I went and bought AirTags just to put in our bags coming home. We had to wait 2 hours for our luggage at Pearson but the customs process was fine for us.
@mambo5-2 unfortunately yes, it's a murder scene. Especially after a fresh transfer, stims also cause your lining to build up so it's a double whammy.

  • Since my D&C my periods have been super messy. Like - on CD1 take a shower anytime I need to change messy. 😟 glad I don’t have to be anywhere but home!

Also since I’ve gained so much weight so quickly with these medications it just makes managing it all a little more difficult! 🙈
  • @kiki047 yup, AirTags helped relieve some anxiety about checking. I pulled mine off my keys when TSA at YUL informed me I had a liquids overage and would need to check or throw out. Ugh. 🤞🏼 Your bag gets located.

@mambo5-2 Dang, I would love to not care sometimes.

@emeraldduchess Our bodies are so annoying. Just do what you're supposed to already!

@kiki047 Oh no! What is with all the bleeding?? I hope your doc has some insight for you so you can keep your planned schedule. Also, that bag debacle is infuriating!

    Edited for awesome spelling
  • @abjm0325 Ooohhh... I would love to paint, too! I had a Bob Ross kit when I was seven and I feel like that was when I peaked. Would you ever take an art class for fun?
@optimistgardener +1 for wanting to be more tidy. Good luck with your egg retrieval!
@rockstarmomma152 Sending you so many hugs. <3
@anniemarie887 I'm sorry that you'll have to go under anesthesia again. Hopefully, your RE will be able to spot what's going on in there and take care of it. Also, HOLY CRAP! Adele! And your photos are simply breathtaking. As for the hysteroscopy, I had one a week ago and don't remember a damn thing because I was unconscious. They did it along with my HSG and endometrial biopsy.
    @mambo5-2 Sending you hugs. <3
@emeraldduchess Have you tried watching YouTube videos to learn to read music? YouTube is always my go-to when I want to learn something, LOL.
@kiki047 Sorry for the weird BCP bleeding. My doctor said it might be breakthrough bleeding, but it was really too heavy for that, so maybe it was my period, but who really can understand the mysteries of life? So now I'm off of it and thank God for that. I hope that you can get some answers.

  • @elle-0409 thanks for chiming in about your hysteroscopy experience, sorry you had to go through one as well. and i feel you on the RLP/unexplained part... it's a weird emotion to want something wrong to be able to fix it.
  • @kiki047 I have been hearing nightmare stories about Air Canada! A coworker of mine who lives in Ohio just had to drive up to Canada to pick up a family member. Their flight back from France was rerouted and then the next flight was cancelled or some other cluster eff. I am so sorry for the heavy bleeding that sucks. And I totally feel you on how painful it can be to walk through the baby section of stores. 💚

@mambo5-2 ugh, the crazy heavy period after a failed transfer is an especially cruel kick in the gut.

@elle-0409 I have taken letrozole for TI with trigger cycles and while those didn't result in getting KU, they did move my O up. I am a late O-er as well. It sucks.

@abjm0325 uuuggghhh scheduling. It really is the worst. Like it's almost impossible to enjoy because you're so anxious. I am on meds that aren't great for my sex drive, so it was a double whammy.

@anniemarie887 I'm glad you're trip was exactly what you needed!

@optimistgardener I agree with @kiki047. It might be wise to bank as many embryos as you can. *TW* LC
I have a low fertilization rate, poor growth and never had an embryo make it to blast/freeze in a lab. We have zero embryos banked and will have to go through more ERs for more children.
  • @abjm0325 yes the scheduling is so tough and seems like such a chore. I try to give my H a heads up like. 'ok get ready to have lots of sex in the next week' and then at least it's on his mind.
@optimistgardener I agree with @kiki047 with banking up as much as you can while you can.  And I also second a WTF to the adds. There's a giant picture of a toddler crying at me on this page right now. Like go away!
@rockstarmomma152 I 100% feel you on the frustrations of putting your life on hold and not having anything to show for it. It's so hard to keep planning on a possible future pregnancy and then the years go by and you're still waiting.
@anniemarie887 I'm glad you had a great trip! Although that travel sounds like a nighmare. I hope this end of the month gets you off the seemingly never ending bench warming position.
@mambo5-2 I hope this FET does the trick!
@emeraldduchess Arg I hate when all you want to see is AF and she's nowhere to be found.
@kiki147 oh no! the non-stop bleeding. I had a cycle earlier this year where I bled/spotted for the whole entire month as well (stained lots of underwear). I finally got an US and checked out and everything was fine. I even had a follicle brewing ready to pop. I hope your bleeding is nothing serious as well. Our bodies are so weird.
@elle-0409 I have about a 6-7 day luteal phase. clomid + progesterone helps extend mine for sure. What mg of progesterone are you using? and using vaginally? (i only ask because my OB tried having me take progesterone orally and it did nothing for my LP) I don't think ovulating on CD 18 is too late, as that's pretty average/common I think. As long as you can get your LP to lengthen, it doesn't really matter when you O.

  • Diagnosis (if you've been): DOR, LPD, unexplained

    Status (TI/ICI/IUI/IVF/FET/benched): TI

What are you doing this cycle? (Testing? Treatment?): finally back! I think. who knows. if so, then trying letrozole instead of clomid, trigger, TI, progesterone

How are things going?: So I really did end up ovulating on CD 6, and now today AF has shown up. i think. I really thought since this little follicle wanted to burst through so quickly that it was going to be the one. but alas, we are here. I'm still cautious that this isn't a real period yet. Last time I only spotted for 3 days. And it's still pretty light so I don't know. I hope it's just getting started slowly. I'm not even sure what will happen there's no real period again. I hate that my RE didn't even bring me in for a US or anything. I'm really really hoping this is a real period and we can get moving with a medicated cycle.

    Any questions?: natm

GTKY: What is a talent that you do not have that you wish you did have? I liked the answer about being naturally tidy. that is a great talent to just want to clean all the time.

  • @elle-0409 my RE said the same thing this morning (3.5hr wait for him to tell me it was breakthrough bleeding  ) but he did say my lining is inexplicably still over 7mm despite bleeding almost non-stop for 20+ days *shrug* He thinks I'll have a real period when I stop the BCP then we can move right into a FET. At least he is fresh off a vacation week so he was in a good mood today lol.
@emeraldduchess ugghh I swear Air Canada never used to be this bad but I've heard nothing but horror stories lately.
@bearmomma1 what is with everyone and the wonky periods lately? I hope your AF is for real so you can hopefully move on this cycle.

  • @bearmomma1 i hope your body starts to cooperate asap!
  • She’s the real deal! Starting letrozole tomorrow. Also have been instructed to start my OPK’s super early because who tf knows what my body will do this cycle 🙄

I found out yesterday someone I know is pregnant with her 3rd. I hate that it affects me so much. Totally bummed out the rest of my evening. And then I had a night of dreams where EVERYONE I know was telling me they were pregnant. Oof, happy to be awake.

  • @optimistgardener - somewhat related to your question about a third retrieval earlier…

I’m at the phase where I’m looking at IVF, continued IUI, or bailing and trying adoption. In my IVF research, my doc pointed me to SART.org and they have a calculator that shows likelihood of live births with full cycles of IVF. It does look like the more retrievals, your odds do increase by quite a bit. My own personal results were 1 round of retrieval: 17.5%, 2: 26.5%, 3 rounds: 32.35%. If you haven’t seen that site, wanted to share it and the calculator!
  • thanks @rockstarmomma152. i have played with that tool a bit in the past and think it is really useful--especially for tempering people's expectations! 🥴
I'll be back with updates from my stims day 5 u/s and hopefully with some further thoughts from my RE re: the third cycle and whatever else.
BFN.
  • @elle-0409 I have done some one time painting classes and they're always fun! Would be fun to take a longer class at some point too. I am also totally on board with going back in time to fix all the things.

@bearmomma1 It is so hard to live in dualing emotions (happiness for the other person/ sadness for you). It might be the part I hate most about IF, right after the whole not getting a baby.
  • @optimistgardener hope all goes well at your appointment! 🥳 How does that work since you’re far away from your RE, too, if I’m remembering correctly. I talked to a friend last night who has been through the egg retrieval process to freeze her eggs, and with all the ultrasounds I assume I would just have to go live in Atlanta for two weeks if I went that route.
  • @bearmomma1 I take 400mg of progesterone starting at 3 DPO. I’ve had several different doctors with different protocols.
    TW: LC/MC

With my only living child I started progesterone orally, then switched to vaginally with a positive test.

With my first miscarriage I took it vaginally, but when I started spotting/bleeding my new doctor said to only take it orally. And with my second miscarriage, I only took it orally. I actually bumped it up to 600 because my numbers weren’t very high. I also start spotting at about 11 DPO now even on 400mg of progesterone, which is super weird and annoying.

@optimistgardener Good luck today! And yes, I always know when I’m getting ready to ovulate because I start thinking about Colin Firth. A lot. 😂

@kiki047 Ugh. Breakthrough bleeding has its own special place in my burn book.
