I’m having a hard time sleeping recently. I’ve been getting restless legs at night, which magnesium lotion has really helped with, but in this last week I’ve also been waking up sometime between 2:30 and 4:30am and just feel like I can’t get comfortable. It doesn’t help that we have done a cross country move but are trying to fix a few things at our new house before moving in, so we’re staying with my mother-in-law and her guest bed is only a full with a super cheap very firm foam mattress (which I’ve already added toppers to make it more humane). We’re used to having a queen bed but there doesn’t seem to be any room to try a pregnancy pillow and I think we’re still 3 weeks out from being able to move to our own house and be reunited with our own bed. I also have one extra rib on my left side and I’ve been having a growing ache there, usually at end of day, but tonight it’s been aching even in bed. Also definitely having Braxton Hicks probably 8-10 times throughout the day, especially when I have to pee or am overly tired. And I feel enormous and waddly and can’t believe there are still so many more weeks of getting bigger left.
@magic_lentil I've been waking up at 5 am to pee and then can't fall back asleep for 2 hours which is inconvenient because my kids are usually awake by 7-730. Fortunately unless my four year old needs help going to the bathroom they try to stay as quiet as possible until 8-830 because they know I'm exhausted and not sleeping well. I've tried going to bed earlier but I'm still so tired all the time. I can't get comfortable. I need a new body pillow. I do a body pillow and a wedge instead of the giant pregnancy pillow. You just reminded me to get a new body pillow today.
My energy levels are finally pretty good after 4 months of relentless fatigue, so I'm busy busy busy with nursery prep.
I get up to pee 1-2 times each night and sometime have trouble falling back asleep. I had my second YI of pregnancy finally clear up.
My main symptom these days is hearing my heartbeat in my ears whenever I do even minimal exertion, like waking across the room. It's a little distracting, I'm wondering if anyone else experiences the same?
@silverholly8 My heart beat is so loud at night when I lay down for bed that it can keep me awake. I don’t think I’ve heard it in my ears during the day though, but I can feel it more.
Ooo I feel you ladies on the sleep thing. I’m up like a train schedule at 12, 2:55, and sometimes 4:30. My alarm goes off for work at 5, so it’s really not ideal. I swear I have a ninja turtle inside cause all he does it kick butt in the middle of the night. I also have a ton of leukorrhea during the day. I never knew there was this much wetness/discharge with pregnancy.
Here is a fun one- the other day i felt what can be described as a hard hit/spasm under my left breast- in the last couple of days i have had pain when twisting. Went to the dr and my rib “displaced” when trying to expand…..im 23 weeks!
Up late with restless legs tonight. I cannot settle even though I'm so tired! Also baby is boogieing in there which does not help matters. I want to sleep!
Anyone else having very bad hip/nerve pain? It feels like it is deep in the socket, and flares up to various degrees throughout the day as I walk. Sometimes it's ok, but it's SO BAD right now-- I can barely hobble across the room. It feels different than the sciatica I had with my first, which was along my lower back and into the hip and leg. This is specifically in the socket and inner groin region. If anyone has insight into whether this might be sciatica or something different, let me know!
I also feel suddenly huge and very wiped out by the end of the day. I usually start out ok in the morning, but then can't be bothered by evening.
Also, re: restless legs. I get this on days when I haven't moved much, which have been more frequent from the hip pain. I've never had restless legs after an active day. It's almost like my muscles have to get wiggles out, or they're atrophying in real time. At least that's how I imagine it happening during those insomnia sessions
My hips are super stiff. Mostly my right hip. I wear memory foam around the house and try and stretch it. My hips will actually dislocate on their own if I get too big or do too much so I'm trying to be mindful of that.
@jilliboo ugh that’s awful. That hasn’t been a huge problem for me yet but I do occasionally wake up with my mind racing and it takes me awhile to fall back asleep. I just usually look at my phone for awhile to distract myself from whatever (ahem, work) I’m thinking about.
Has anyone else started having very weird dreams? I’ve had 2 doozies the past 2 nights
@jilliboo I've been going to rest or do gentle stretching in another room and then coming back to bed when I can't settle. It often works, but couldn't tell you why. I've had several nights recently of insomnia and restless legs.
@bows22 Yes to the wild dreams!!!! I had one recently where I really had to work to convince myself it hadn't happened!
@merostomata yes to the wiped out by evening and restless legs. I'm already taking the max of magnesium and going to the chiropractor every other week! I'm worried about the summer getting hotter and that exacerbating these symptoms.
@bows22 wild dreams since day 1 - I've started writing some of them down each morning!
For fellow restless leg sufferers, I read that low iron can be a factor in causing it….I had super low iron in the first trimester before it evened out but I’m not great about taking my extra iron supplement because it tastes so bad to me, but paying attention to your iron might help. I’m trying to be more consistent with that… the magnesium lotion definitely helps but it doesn’t completely make it go away for me.
Just chatted with my midwife about restless legs and she recommended I take calcium-magnesium, but since I take tums so much for heartburn she said just magnesium is okay.
@sandy5693 mine are so disturbing I am doing my best to forget them, no writing down here 😂 I had the worst one so far last night, this has only been happening while we have been on vacation so I’m hoping it just has something to do with not being in my own bed
This month the worst symptom for me is snoring 😑 I’m exhausted and I’ll wake up feeling like I never slept at all. Also, my husband is a light sleeper and if I have any kind of allergies going on we have to trade nights on the couch just to get some rest!

I also feel like I’m expanding by the minute. Everything is sore lately.
