Welcome to the November 2022 BMB! (I used this template from the August 2022 BMB) If you're new to TB, we're excited to have you! Below you will find information on how the flow of BMBs work, guidelines and helpful links.

Some links that you may find helpful:

How-To Guides:
  • How to quote: Hit the "quote" at the bottom of the post you want to quote. You will be taken to the reply box with the quote set up already.
  • How to tag: Add a "@" in front of the username of the person you are talking to.
  • How to change your username: log in to TheKnot, hover over My Knot, and click Account Settings. If you are having issues doing it that way, you can email community@thebump.com and ask them to change your username. Give them a few suggestions just in case your top choice is taken. It may take up to 24 hours for the name to update.
  • How to insert a spoiler box: click the drop down list arrow next to the paragraph symbol (third from the left, next to bold and italicize) and choose spoiler. It will insert a grey box, and everything that you type in there will go into the spoiler.

For the sake of board organization, here are some simple guidelines for posting threads:
DO:
  • Introduce yourself in the "Introductions!" thread
  • Feel free to start one of the weekly posts listed below:
  • Post your own thread if you have a confirmed loss (please use a TW)
  • Post a thread that would apply to the entire community and doesn't fall into one of the categories for daily threads listed below (Ex: what to pack in your hospital bag, baby gear, etc)
  • Comment, share advice and show support for your fellow bumpies; this is a two-way street, to get support, you must show it as well.

DON'T:
  • Start a thread asking about symptoms; please post this in the current weekly "symptoms thread" - this is helpful because it keeps the board from getting cluttered and makes it so we can all see the whole discussion in one thread, rather than having one thread about MS, one about food cravings, another about vivid dreams, etc.
  • Ask the community if you are pregnant, it is against TOU
  • Start a thread asking for relationship advice; a professional is better suited for this task
  • Post pictures of your pregnancy test, this is also against TOU
  • Post a thread that asks a question only applying to yourself unless you suspect you may be going through a MC
  • Get bent out of shape if someone calls you out for not following these guidelines; if you expect to be part of a supportive board (which we are), you need to be able to take the time to learn the ins and outs of the board

Weekly threads suggestions! Feel free to add any others you think would be helpful/fun.

Once we all get farther along, we will also have pinned threads for things like ultrasounds, sex announcements, and birth announcements.

I've copy/pasted this from previous boards, and it seems to be the way that they are all organized, but of course we should feel free to tweak for our needs! For example, some boards do weekly ticker changes while others do weekly due date check-ins (ex, DD 1st week of March.).

If anyone has a suggestion for other threads, please feel free to comment a suggestion.

Let's have a great BMB ladies!

@BumpAdmin please pin this thread.

Re: ***Read this First***Board Organization***

  • Hi!

I am bumping this hoping @BumpAdmin will pin this to the top of our board.  Please bump too!  I have found in the past that following a general structure helps us stay in touch and also keep information straight.  Let's use this discussion thread to discuss how we would like to keep it organized.

Side note:  Would anyone like to have a Fit Friday or some such discussion thread?  It seems like a lot of us have questions about exercise.

  • @BumpAdmin please pin

Re: ticker vs due week. I have done it both ways and prefer "due 1st week of Nov" type check-ins, but I'm happy to wait 2 weeks for the rest of Nov due dates to find out they're pregnant to decide anything.

  • @sejica. I was totally thinking the same thing...we can wait until the end of the month and then decide how we want to break up or organize check-ins.
  • Hi everyone!

This is just a friendly reminder not to start one off posts about a specific topic.  Most likely your post falls into a discussion that has already been regularly scheduled (ex. the question thread).  You are also welcome and encouraged to start any of the discussion posts that are supposed to be started on a specific day if no one has done so already.

If you do want to start a post about a specific topic - for ex. a product spotlight please run the idea by everyone using this thread.

Thank you for making our board accessible and easy to use for all!
  • Hi Everyone!

I have noticed a few more one off posts recently.  Can we discuss what additional regularly scheduled discussions we would like to have? The idea would be to have these be on a monthly or weekly basis.

    What do people think about:

    Weekend baking
    Fit Friday
Product spotlight - we could do one on genetic testing, book or podcast recs, etc.

What ideas do you have for a discussion board?

Also a reminder that anyone can start a regularly scheduled discussion.
    Have a great day!

  • I honestly don't mind the one-off questions as long as people use the search function so we don't have 4356890458924 threads about nipple creams or baby sleeping. I like the product idea - maybe we do a product of the week, where we talk about books, or strollers, or play gyms, but keep it ON that theme for the week?

@ponyoisfun mad props to you for spearheading all of this. I don't open TB until I get to the office and answer work emails, and you've usually taken care of the fun daily threads :)
  • @ponyoisfun *lurking from September* - I'm the "you" in September. I suggest you take a look at our threads schedule.  Additionally part of how we controlled the "one offs" is that every time one is posted, one of us (and only one), comments and gently tells them about avoiding one offs, to read the "read first" and "thread schedule" posts, to come introduce themselves, and which thread their post would be most appropriate for.  It helped - a LOT.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • @ponyoisfun I'm all for a Fit Friday and weekly product spotlights!
  • @ashnicell I nominate you to start the product spotlights  :). Whatever you think would be best for the first week I am sure will be great.
  • How do I move my post to the question thread?  Thank you!
  • @knottiefcac92f5b41640ad you can just copy and paste the text of it, that would be fine! There's not a way to move the entire thread.
  • Re: weekly check-ins, splitting into smaller groups

Ticker change vs week due vs some other clever system I haven't participated in?

How do people want to split it up? What day do we want to*try* to have them go up on? I could make a poll, or we could discuss it here or in a separate non-poll thread?

Incase we're going to discuss it here, I've done both ticker change day of the week and due week clusters, and there are my + and - either way.

Ticker + : inclusive of late oct and early Dec due dates who've found a home here on the Nov board. Evenly split in 7. Has obvious post day.
Ticker - : people are in different weeks of pregnancy, so some comraderie is lost. Ticker days can change with EDD updates after the 8/12/20wk Dr visits. Some days may not have many people since there are 7 groups.

Week + : comraderie for trimester switch, vday, anatomy scan. Less group changes even with possible EDD updates. Option to post all groups on the same day of the week, ie Mon.
Week - : the later weeks lag sucks, and it can feel like you're being left behind. More users in the early weeks for now, latecomers can feel overlooked. Not as easy to include late oct/early Dec due dates who have chosen the Nov board.

My vote is for weeks 11/1-11/8, 11/9-11/15, 11/16-11/23, 11/24-11/30 split, but am fine with whatever the majority chooses.

  • My vote is for weeks the way you listed out at the end
  • I think weeks. I haven't participated in a board where we broke check ins up by week; are we welcome to respond to folks not in our week?
  • @PurplePumpernickel, yes! You're always welcome to respond. I will definitely be reading all groups, no matter how they're split.

  • I like weeks too.
  • I think in my last group we did weeks at first and then as people kind of faded away later we went back to one big check in

  • Updates and clarifications to how we organize the board (Thank you everyone for contributing your ideas!):

    1. Poster-centric questions (is my symptom normal, is my hcg reasonable, etc.) should go in a weekly Questions thread or in a check- in thread etc.  Anyone can start the weekly question thread - just remember to name it clearly and use the date so we can keep track of which week it is for.

    2. Discussion-forming questions (when do you tell your employer, have you started shopping for maternity clothes, etc) work as standalones.  IMHO it would be cool if people ran these by each other in the board organization thread, but it is not required.

    3. If someone wants to start a discussion it would be kind if they at least have introduced themselves in the introduction thread or the weekly check in. If they don't we can give them a gentle reminder to do so.

    4. We (as a collective) will do our best to kindly remind others to make a unique username so that it is easier to remember who they are.

    5.  Weekly Monday check-ins will be by due date and broken down as follows:
    Due date: 11/1-11/8, 11/9-11/15, 11/16-11/23, 11/24-11/30

    - these are things that I have not heard discussed, but would like to remind everyone of-

Anyone can start a discussion that is regularly scheduled or agreed upon.  Just make sure to date it so people know it is already up.

PGAL and the high risk check -ins are weekly - if anyone feels up for leading these please go ahead.

Let me know if you have any questions or if I need to edit this post to clarify anything.  Thank you everyone for reading and being so helpful hashing this stuff out.

  • Any ideas on when we want to start a weekly question thread? The big one is getting a bit overwhelming 😅
  • @bananapancakes I would suggest starting one on Sunday or Monday, but I don' think it really matters as long as it is on a consistent day.  Would you be willing to be in charge of that🙂?
  • @ponyoisfun Sure! I’ll most likely start it tomorrow.
  • Can we get the big one unstickied to avoid confusion?
  • @fantasyflyte, in my experience, things take forever to get unstickied, and it is full of useful answers for now, I'm not sure it's worth bumbping it with a bunch of 'unsticky please' requests.

  • So I know there's been some conversation about eventually moving to Facebook, but I saw an alternative mentioned today that I think might be a great idea. Apparently the June BMB moved to a private Discord server. I feel like that would be a great option because it preserves relative anonymity behind a screenname like on The Bump (ie not tied to real life FB page) but it's more private than the Bump because you need an invite to the private server (and you can set invite links to expire after a certain amount of time).

For those unfamiliar with Discord, it's free to make an account, and it's basically like a live chat that's always open and you can set up different "channels" that could have similar purposes to threads on a message board for organization (if you've ever used Slack it's similar). We could have different channels for pictures, questions, concerns, cute moments, general chat, etc.

I know we're a ways off from going off the Bump but I wanted to throw the idea out there before I forgot it existed lol.
  • @fantasyflyte I would definitely be up for discord and have an account for another hobby.  I don't have fb and live in a "big small town" so I try to stay off social media in general.
