@newbabymama27 Same same same! We were just getting comfortable taking our daughter places when covid hit. We were a little too sheltering at first, I admit, but beginning of March is when our eyes were beginning to open. We actually went to the local aquarium as a family 3 days before the world shut down! Now I'm always questioning if her lack of social skills is because Mommy and Daddy aren't the best in that area, or if it's more than that. The feelings are so complicated.
@trapperkeeper87 I was 10000% sheltering my son too but it’s hard not to do it when you’re so new to being a mom and don’t know wtf you’re doing, sleep deprived, leaving the house is a lot of work, plus it was super cold here 😅 I always found excuses anyways. Does she actually have social skill issues? I think a lot of it is also personality wise. Some kids are just more reserved/shy I find. My son didn’t get into daycare until he was 2 and I don’t have any friends with kids that are in the same city as me so he was like a deer in the headlights around other kids when they tried to play with him but within a month of preschool he’s super social and loves playing with others.
@newbabymama27 Thankfully she doesn't have any actual "real" social issues, she just seems to be like me in that it takes her a good 10 minutes to warm up before she's fully engaged. Like today at lap time at the library, she was easily the oldest there. It took her about 15 minutes of acting like a wild woman and running around from the excitement before she played quietly and then went above and beyond to help clean up and collect the books for the teacher. I would probably even question if it was normal if I didn't have the STM+'s in my other bump group. Having someone there who's been in the trenches before makes a world of difference!
@trapperkeeper87 aaah ok I see what you mean! I think my son is like your daughter in some ways too then because he doesn’t immediately adapt to situations but I know kids in my other bump group are very similar as well. Daycare is probably different though because he already knows all kids and teachers. A few weeks ago we went over to our friends’ house and they have 4 kids all 2 years apart with the youngest being 3. My son hasn’t seen them since November and clung to my leg for about 5 minutes even though the older 3 kept bringing him toys and being super friendly. While my son eventually adapted and started playing with them, their youngest boy who is 3 literally never left mom’s or dad’s side and just wanted to cuddle. He even left to go to his room to play alone with cars while the others playing together in the living room. That gave me a good picture of ok seems like every kid is different and prefers their own way of doing things. Anyways, I’m ranting now lol. But I don’t see any issues with your daughter being uncomfortable at the library at first and taking time to acclimatize to the environment. To me that sounds like pretty common toddler behaviour

Last night, Hubbs was playing Nobody Saves the World and I was watching. He got killed and I went "Oh biscuits!" because it's my favorite school-appropriate curse, and he stopped dead in his proverbial tracks, looked at me, squinted, and asked "Did you just say 'Biscuits'?"
Before that, I had a panic attack, and he usually gives me a squish (lays on me) to help. However, we both realized he can't do that anymore because my bump is in the way and he would squish baby June, so he just kind of koala-hugged my upper body
@pangolindrome I love everything about that! I've never heard of that game, but I just looked it up. We're not big into dungeon crawlers here, but it sounds like something my husband and his friends would enjoy for a casual game night!
@trapperkeeper87 It's kind of ugly-cute. We have loved Castle Crashers for a long time and it's kind of like Castle Crashers and Diablo had a baby. He got it because it's got a co-op option, but for now I've really enjoyed being his second pair of eyes. It's cool because you get to shapeshift into different forms that have separate abilities, and it's actually a pretty huge game.
@pangolindrome By the time my husband is playing games, I'm heading to bed, but I'm going to have him look into this! At quick glance (very quick), it reminded me a bit of For the King, which we really liked playing for a while there. I'll admit I'm more of a casual gamer, but I do love watching him play and hearing his childhood best friends all on speaker laughing, plotting, and strategizing. It's one of the things I love most about him. 🥰
Had to zoom in on this pic so I wouldn’t disturb her. This is the bed in the guest room where Zoey likes to nap (we call it Zoey’s room, actually, not the guest room lol). She loves snuggling up next to this teddy bear (which I’ve had since I was a young kid). It is just SO sweet and warms my heart ❤️
