@melyrae I chose to read birth stories instead of freak out. I also loved listening to the birth hour and hear that so many women have done this before and I will be able to as well.
@ashking0922 Yes, mine too! The earliest they would schedule me was 9, so I'll drink the stuff at 8. I was able to get fruit punch again this time, which really wasn't bad last time. Just tastes like very sweet Hawaiian Punch!
@jhysmath
I waxed my legs and armpits last week and it was WAY less painful than I
remember. It's been like 3 years since the last time I went in for it. Not even
worth stressing about. I'm still a bit nervous for my next wax appt on 6/2
though. I can't remember from the questions thread whether you were a regular
waxer or not. Fingers crossed yours goes very well!
@laj0217
baby showers are so fun! I love showers in general - how nice that she was able
to hand down the big items! We are currently low-risk and our last ultrasound
was our 20 wk anatomy scan in April. I keep hoping it'll just work out to have
another one at any point because I really enjoyed seeing him move around in
there! One of our close friends didn't want the epidural and she said if they
have another, she'll forego it again. My biggest piece of advice is to let your
care team know you don't want to see the needle if you end up going that
route. It's pretty common for them to
keep it out of view for patients. I get woozy if I see needles, so I let my
team know when I had DS and they made sure I couldn't see it. After it's out, I
care much less but I CANNOT see a needle before it goes in or while it goes in
or I'll get lightheaded. On that note, I'll be getting it with DS2.
@dsmith211
guinea pig?! CUUUUTE! & @mk2022x I could totally go for
a large tub of movie theater popcorn right now! Glad you had a nice trip. I
love thinking about all the things we'll do next year together! I was just
talking about the RhoGAM shot with my husband this weekend, but I couldn't
remember the name of it. We don't know DH's blood type, but they didn't test
him since I'm Rh+. My sister-in-law mentioned opting for a surrogate if they
ever did decide to have kids (currently on the doesn't want to get pregnant or
have kids boat), and it led to a discussion about finding a suitable surrogate
and then considering their blood type since they're both Rh+. I imagine it'd be
a bit of pressure to make sure it's all going to go well. I wondered whether
they could still choose whomever they'd like and just know that the surrogate
would need the shot if she was Rh-. Seems too simple.
@mnmomma84
Yay for outside kicks! I'm also going back and forth between ravenous and no
appetite. That's a bunch of bologna about the extra charges from your hotel.
Early check-out?! Really? If they got paid for the overnight, it shouldn't
matter what time you leave. I've also never heard of paying for parking for a
hotel you have accommodations with. I apparently need to travel more.
@kboydbowman
That will be such a nice trip - very excited for you! As far as shaving, I can
no longer see around the bump, and scheduled a wax appt. I'll be following for
tips as well. Last week I got my legs and underarms waxed and my tech
recommended some "Flamingo" wax strips they have at target. I'm
tempted to go pick some up and try it myself before spending $75 next week to
have someone else do it… The legs were TOTALLY worth it! On the next round, I
might try the strips on my legs myself. I'm considering whether I'll need to
recruit my little sister to help with the backs of my thighs lol. I'm not very
spa-like at home, and though I enjoy them, I don’t do lots of makeup or girly
routines often. (Sorry to our English professionals. My commas show up where
they want to). My recent wax research did bring up exfoliating a few days
before waxing and I'm guessing it helped because it was nowhere near as painful
as I remembered it being.
@wiseh
Your job is so neat! Now it's even more interesting to me. I've always loved
climbing, so naturally, I want to try climbing it lol It drives my husband
nuts. He's always telling me to be more careful.
@chelsraec
Just 1 more week until your anatomy scan - woohoo! So excited for you. That's
definitely a highlight of the pregnancy!
@lalarose22
Glad you'll get the 32 week scan! How great to get to see LO again. Good luck
with your family pics!
@pangolindrome
I'm so in love with the name y'all chose - it's so sweet!
@millygolitely
Pre-baby vacation sounds like a GREAT idea! I'm curious to hear more about how
you have it arranged. I need to schedule in some time for yoga. I'm glad I did
every time I do it, I just need to do it.
@lillienne
so glad you have such a great fit for your OBGYN! Ours is very lively and
excited about life - which makes our appt's upbeat and cheery, and I like that!
@lucyg00cy
Yay for nursery progress! The crib, dresser, and painting are BIG steps in
there! Which color did you go with? I've known my blood type since high school
when I started donating. They asked me during our NIPS draw what my type was
though.
@newbabymama27
Planting is such a rewarding time of year! I love when all the planters are
prepped and ready with soil just waiting for the fresh new plants! I've also
heard that waxing while pregnant can be more sensitive, but I had the opposite
experience last week. Could be worth a shot!
@ashking0922
Our little guy measured 30th percentile at our anatomy scan and we aren't
schedule to get one. I wish I could get scheduled for a growth scan, just
because I want to see him again! I understand the worry that would go with it,
but my fingers are crossed that everything is well for you and that you can
enjoy seeing her during your next scan!
@bigworldlittleg
That is such a great initiative! 4-day weekend is always nice.

𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: I'm still nauseous in the mornings; I'm not
surprised though. I can't count the number of times I heard with DS1 how it's
supposed to go away after first tri. It doesn’t always work that way. I
mentioned it briefly in my 24 wk appt on Monday because I'm losing my cookies
more than I did with DS1, and my OB gave me a couple recommendations that I
hadn't heard before; Vitamin B6: 12.5-25mg 2-3 times/day, Unisom: half tab in
the morning, full tab at night - may cause drowsiness, or Benadryl: 25mg 2/day
- can also cause drowsiness. I'm thinking my previous OB didn't offer anything
up because while nauseous, I was able to keep my cookies. That is the lightest
way I could think to explain it. Beyond the nausea though, I feel pretty great.
I get tired sooner and can't walk as fast for as long without breathing harder,
but I still have pretty good flexibility and energy, so I just keep trucking.
𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: I can't turn off the voice in my head that says
getting healthy is counteracting the pregnancy gains on the scale. Zig grew in
measurements by 1 day between each of our 3 scans. I also can't fight off the
guilt I'm having for thinking I'm right when my OB clearly says I should gain.
The next paragraph is me venting in detial: feel free to skip.
I
gained back the pound that I lost at our last appt, so at least I'm not going
backwards anymore. I talked to my OB again about how much I should be gaining.
She still insists 11-20 pounds and recommended protein, brisk walking, and
light resistant training (bands). I've never tried gaining weight before. When
I'm healthy, I have more muscle than the average 5'5" bear. Right now, I
have more fat than is preferred for my personal health goals. I went from 170
to 195 before birth with DS1 - that was all in my healthy range and I felt
confident about my weight gain during that one. Over the last two years I
gained weight in fat stores and reached my heaviest at 245, so I know I have
plenty of fat to lose. I was on my way back down when I got pregnant. I'm 219
with DS2 (up 2 pounds from our first appt in Jan). It's such a mind boggle to
manage my weight by gaining while already overweight. My legs have slimmed down
considerably and my eating habits are better - less desserts, but my activity
and lifting have all but fallen off. Every part of me feels like getting
healthy should be tracked by more than the scale, but I'm not getting any
support for that. The body scanners I've used in the past aren't supposed to be
used while pregnant, so I'm not even sure how they could measure it. I looked
up a few examples of where the weight comes from in the recommended gains and
that helped get my head wrapped around what's healthy to gain in "baby
weight", but it doesn't mean I couldn't lose fat (HAHAHA I have WAY more
than 6-8 lb. stored).
Where does pregnancy weight gain
go?
Let's say your baby weighs in at 7 or 8 pounds
(about 3 to 3.6 kilograms). That accounts for some of your pregnancy weight
gain. What about the rest? Here's a sample breakdown:
Larger breasts: 1 to 3
pounds (about 0.5 to 1.4 kilogram)
Larger uterus: 2 pounds
(about 0.9 kilogram)
Placenta: 1 1/2 pounds
(about 0.7 kilogram)
Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds
(about 0.9 kilogram)
Increased blood volume: 3
to 4 pounds (about 1.4 to 1.8 kilograms)
Increased fluid volume: 2
to 3 pounds (about 0.9 to 1.4 kilograms)
Fat stores: 6 to 8 pounds
(about 2.7 to 3.6 kilograms)
𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: what's your biggest fear? I second
@pangolindrome's and @blanket_girl's husband dying fear. I think about it way
too often and just end up crying. We have a 9 year age gap and I hate when he
brings it up. He's my best friend and I don't want to think about life without
him.
@melyrae yes to freaking out about labor. I've done it before and still I don't understand how my cervix/vagina is supposed to stretch to 10cm and a baby will come out🤯 and at the same time I'm fascinated by it😅

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rant: The best Mexican restaurant in town, also locally owned by a former university student and literally across the street from my department building, closed in March and I still miss it. Rave: I’m in CT now getting in one last visit to my parents / family before the third trimester and eating all the foods I can’t get in Nebraska (specifically eggplant parmigiana and decent pizza) … can you tell I’m constantly thinking about food this week
𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: Is the glucose test drink really as bad as everyone’s telling me? I mean, I had to swallow a radioactive iodine pill for my thyroid cancer treatment years ago and I feel like that aftertaste was way nastier than flat orange soda would be.
𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: On the lighter side, I’m afraid of rollercoasters and plane turbulence even though I fly a lot. But darker and more immediately, I’m terrified of something crazy / tragic happening during the birth to baby and / or me. And in general, just fears of whether we’ll be able to handle it all post-birth while living so far away from both of our families. I know friends and family with people nearby, even some whose parents live with them, and it’s still hard!
@laj0217 I’ve had one friend who didn’t get the epidural tell me that her fear of the needle stayed, and that her whole labor just felt like bad period cramps. And another who told me that once labor started the needle didn’t sound so bad and she opted for the epidural after all!
@melyrae I made the mistake in Week 6 of skipping ahead in all the books to the labor and delivery chapters! Now I’m just trying to forget about all of them and just focus on where I’m at now …

Is it normal to not be able to eat anything before doing the test? My friend did it not so long ago and I'm dreading not being able to eat first thing. I still get nauseous when my stomach is empty🥴

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: what's your biggest fear? House fires sound pretty terrible. I've never experienced one and hope I never will. Or being stuck in any sort of fire.
@laj0127 getting the epidural hurt less than the contractions for me, but every body is different!
@babywiik My OB said I can still eat, just probably shouldn't opt for cinnamon toast crunch cereal and apple juice... toast and eggs or the like would be a better choice on that particular day
@runsonoatmeal The glucose drink is like a flat, super syrup-y soda. I've had 3 flavors over the course of my other pregnancies and an early screen for this one. IMO orange is the most terrible, fruit punch was the best (and that's still not saying much). Lemon/lime is the most common I've seen. I think the worst part of it was the feeling of all that heavy sugar in your stomach first thing in the day and the sugar rush/heartburn that can accompany it. Like eating 5 candy bars for breakfast. Make sure you beeline it to some solid breakfast or pack something to eat right away after its over. You'll want pretty much anything solid in your tummy.

𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Despite getting covid we finished our quarantine and tested negative just in time to go on our baby-moon this weekend in Victoria, BC. It was some much needed time just us reconnecting after a really stressful year. No rants really, YAY!

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: what's your biggest fear? I absolutely hate moths, with a passion. I hate when they start coming in the house during the summer and won't go in a room if there is a moth. Pathetic, I know.
@runsonoatmeal Glucose drink is not so bad. I think of it like when a freezie (American: Freeze Pop????) melts and you drink the syrupy stuff at the bottom, which I always did as a kid.
Also I figured it’s time to start reading the labour and birth parts. It’s gonna happen eventually. May as well be moderately prepared??? Though i am making the “wtf” face with ever new paragraph I encounter LOL.
@melyrae I had a very VERY strong fear of birth the first time around, despite reading/listening to all sorts of birth stories. Was it tough? Yes! But here I am.. along with many others.. doing it again, like a crazy person 🥴 haha somehow you get through it, forget a lot of it, and still do it again 🤷🏻♀️
@babywiik I don’t think I had to fast for initial glucose test but because I didn’t pass they made me do the 3 hour one and that one I definitely had to fast for for 12 hours. It was one of the toughest days of my pregnancy lol. The hanger was reaaaaal.
@maple1422 I've had so many differing opinions on weight gain. I am Class 3 obese (meaning my BMI is over 40) and the current guidelines clump all women of a BMI >30 in one basket, even though hospital policy is based on varying obesity ranges beyond that. When I first found out I was pregnant I asked for a referral to a dietician so I could manage my weight and the GP told me "pregnancy is not the time to be losing weight" but I've since found out my hospital won't let me birth here and I'll have to fly 2000km away to birth if I don't lose weight! I found a study on women that are in the obesity categories over a BMI of 30 and they found that women with a BMI over 40 should stay the same weight throughout pregnancy and those with a BMI of 35-40 should only gain 2lb or something low like that.
I will try to find the study and link it so you can take it to your HCP.
This is from ACOG though, that say that if foetal growth is not affected then mums should not be told to gain weight just for the sake of gaining weight.
@mamamoomoo12 moths can be scary! One spring when we lived in New Mexico, I think during one of their big migration seasons, there were literally hundreds of them every night, crashing into our garage doors. It sounded like millions of tiny fists banging on our house to get in and it still haunts me.
@wiseh that's fucking insane. And that's all I have to say about that.

Trying really hard to keep up with my 2 year old but after an 8/9 hr work day on my feet, oftentimes with no break I’m absolutely shot by the time I get home. Makes me feel guilty that I’m so exhausted I’m dreading going to the park and chasing after him. Or too tired to walk dogs. Clean kitchen, pick up toys, and pack lunches.
I’ve always had a hard time sleeping and yeah it’s getting worse.
𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀/𝗥𝗮𝘃𝗲𝘀: Rave: HUGE rave is that I think I am no longer going to be taking call at the hospital. It entailed working 40 hours a week and after my shift ended being available at any given notice for an 8 day stretch to go in and scan a case for pretty much any reason. This usually means being at the hospital with 1 hour of sleep in my car and working for 2 days straight. I had to answer for cardiac, abdominal, pediatric, neurology, and musculoskeletal and fetal service every 8 weeks. It’s the most stressful thing in the world and after almost 3 YEARS I’m finally off. Ended it with my last case being a 32w fetal (uterine dehiscence after premature rupture of membranes) and it was negative. Told the RN sitting next to me with delivery pack in hand I’d see her at the end of summer. Haha.
Edited to say years not days
𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: anyone else feel like they have the fire of hades when they get angry? Like the meme of Beyoncé that’s like “Oo bitch I need to chill”. My tolerance level for peoples stupidity at the hospital is non existent and I am trying really hard to reign it in.
Biggest irrational fear: living in Minnesota… my car going off the road into a frozen body of water and being trapped. I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever in a million years walk on frozen water, not even if someone paid me $50 million
@kboydbowman I'm slowly getting to the point that shaving is also getting difficult....I think waxing is in my future. I don't think I will be able to stand not being able to clean up and I'd rather just get it all done at once.
@melyrae I'm not reading any books, but the size comparisons on different apps are getting less cute and more scary. Cute that it's still in there....scary it has to come out lol
I forgot who asked about another ultrasound after the anatomy scan and I'm too lazy to go back a page....I will be having one last ultrasound at 32 weeks, but I'm old (38). Not sure if that's just normal where I go, or if it's because I'm AMA.

Definitely something I need to work on. Rave: Bebe is kicking and rolling on the regular now! So great to feel that reassurance.
𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: natm
𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: what's your biggest fear? General life wise: Dying in a plane crash. I have always hated flying because of this irrational fear of crashing- my father in law is an engineer for Boeing and has assured me that it is so incredibly unlikely due to x, y and z safety mechanisms on planes....doesn't matter. Still hate it. I still go places, but my poor husband has to endure my anxiety lol. Baby wise: That still lingering fear that she won't ever be born. I worry every day that something is going to go wrong.
@runsonoatmeal honestly the glucose drink itself isn’t that bad! I went with the lime flavored one for my first and it was just like overly sweet lemonade or something. You DO start feeling a bit sick after but it certainly won’t hold a candle to the discomfort you’ve had to go through with the iodine treatments (I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with that btw)
In regards to labor and delivery worriers: I have been VERY anxious about this until pretty recently. I have had two close friends give birth in the past two months and both of them said the same thing: labor and delivery sound SO much worse than it feels when you’re in the moment. They both had less than ideal births (forceps and episiotomies and complications) but they both said once you’re in it, it is almost empowering to see what your body can do. Yes, it’s pain, but unlike basically any other time we experience it, this pain is a signal of something productive rather than something going wrong— and it’s bringing you closer and closer to meeting your baby!
FWIW, they both got epidurals (one planned to all along and one was initially very much against using any pain meds) and both said it was the best choice they could have made. They needed the rest after many hours of intense contractions. The one who was against it said if she had given in and gotten the epidural when the doctor recommended it, she thinks she would have been able to rest and would have had the strength to push harder when the time came and get the baby out without forceps. They both said the needle was not that traumatic at all, and once you’re in the moment it’s really the last thing they thought about. Obviously everyone is different but knowing myself and my body and hearing my friends’ stories, I am less hesitant to accept pain meds, and at the very least will be open to the idea if I start feeling panicked or overwhelmed.
I just want to echo @blanket_girl ‘s statement- I had a 12.5 hour labor with a failed epidural and had a 9lb (98%) baby and I watched YouTube Videos like crazy and read so many books etc. but once I was in active labor, I didn’t think about any of that. I didn’t attended a birth class at the hospital but I did it, he came out!!!! Yes, I’m a little nervous to do it again because I’m not sure I’m as strong this time as I was then but I know this baby girl will be born one way or another. The pain is temporary and for me, I didn’t even feel the stitches when he was laying on my chest, the pain was completely gone in that moment. Our bodies were made for this and thank god for modern medicine!!!
@runsonoatmeal nothing compares to Texas junebugs though...

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
Re: labor I also got an epidural after 30 something hours of contractions. Even though it only worked on one side, it was amazing. I could finally relax and gather my wits together so I was in more a present state of mind when baby was born. But also, if you don't get an epidural, there comes a certain point in labor where you're body will produce pain meds of sorts for you. Is it adrenaline? I can't remember but it gets you through the end and will help significantly with recovery as it stays in your body for some time. I don't like needles and can't look when getting blood drawn or vaccines. Don't look when getting an epidural. they're behind you so easy not to. Maybe it's easy for me to say as I just dislike them as oppose to having fear around needles.
Echoing everything the ladies above said re: epidurals. I was 4 cm dilated for almost 2 weeks before I went into labour (ie before my water broke but they still needed to give me pitocin because nothing was happening for hours) but once the time came, I just wouldn’t dilate much beyond 6 cm and then once I got the epidural I made it to 10 cm in 30 minutes just because I finally relaxed and let go of my fears. My one nurse laughed because she went for her break and when she came back I was suddenly ready lol. Unfortunately my baby was posterior and my pelvis apparently has a weird shape so he was stuck while I pushed for 4 hours, but I can’t imagine actively pushing for that long without pain meds. Granted, by the end of it I maxed out my dosage and had back labour but it was still better than nothing. The forceps looked freaky (giant salad tongs? 😅) but I didn’t feel them or the stitching after either. I remember being so high on adrenaline after that I was a maniac and didn’t want to wake up baby and my husband just 4 hours after getting to the postpartum room and WALKED to the nurse’s station to ask for pain meds instead of buzzing them from the room. They weren’t happy with me but I couldn’t sleep anyways.
I am in my glucose test right now… we don’t get a flavor option here, not sure if that’s better or worse. Just sugar water. Had to drink it in 5 mins, minute 1 was ok and then 4 gross minutes to keep chugging it. Hopefully I don’t have to do this again!!
Echoing what others have said about labor, delivery and any pain meds you choose to have or not. Both deliveries, I had a sense of calm take over and had clear focus on what my body was doing. I think that's why its so helpful to go through the practice of writing a birth plan and considering things with your partner or support person - they'll be familiar with things and be able to help you make decisions when you're in the thick of it. Also, I went into both deliveries open minded about pain meds and chose both times to get an epidural. My first labor/delivery, I was able to get an hour or so nap before I was fully dilated which helped when it was time to push. The second time around I was hoping to get a little nap in but it was time to push right after the epidural was placed and starting to take effect. The epidural really isn't that bad - the only thing you'll really feel is maybe the initial injection where the numb you, and then you just have to hold really still (which can be a struggle if you get a contraction). I can't remember if they used a catheter for urine after that?? Anyone recall? I want to say for sure with my first they did but things went so quickly during my second. I'll also add while it is helpful to have a birth plan, not every provider will take time to read it. IMO, it's a practice to go through with your support person so they can advocate for you if/when needed. Like I mentioned before, I went into things with a very open mind and I understand that's not necessarily the case for everyone. No matter what happens, the end goal of everyone involved is to have a healthy baby and mama!
@melyrae You are 100000% not alone on not being able to do a full day of things anymore. Depending on the activity, even 1-2 hours can be my limit now, and I am basically a husky energy-wise. I found that talking to people I don't see regularly is even an energy drain because I'm not used to their speech and movement patterns. Really frustrating. Also, I see no point in freaking myself out by reading about labor and birth. It's going to happen, I'm sure I'll get good guidance when the time comes. No need for the deets.
@newbabymama27 Honestly it's been the exact same as before. Some days I am more sensitive, other days less. There might be a 5% difference. I gotta wax this week so I guess I'll find out - I kind of anticipate it being the last time I'm able to do it before baby arrives - but last time was terrible because I accidentally went a week or two too long. The first time(s) I suggest having a professional do it, with hard wax if you can afford it and can spend an hour in an appt, because it's gentler. NEVER go to European Wax Center. They speed wax, don't get it all, and the recovery was the worst I've ever had except for this one lady who covered literally the entire area in three applications (should be more like 40-50). My skin still remembers her. The best experience I had was in Sweden, the first person I ever went to. She is from New Zealand and was both an awesome person and great at waxing. It is definitely not something I can do on my own with a bump, mirror or no mirror... and dropping soft wax on a mirror makes it a huge pain to clean off.
@newbabymama27 I think it just means the wax is sugar-based, but I believe most waxes are at least part sugar. Based on what I have read, it's more about the person doing it than what they use - they're supposed to be similar. I prefer soft wax myself because it's quicker and cheaper, but hard wax is definitely gentler although it takes longer.

@nightknight what are they upping class sizes to? Where I'm located we don't have enough students to be a class and sometimes end up with split grade classes lol.
@nightknight yes! My lower right ribs hurt a lot when sitting or laying down. It helps to stand or slightly stretch out my back, like over a pillow or by leaning my seat back. I feel kicks low in my abdomen, though, so I don’t think it’s the baby per se - just a general lack of space in there I guess.
Re: Weekly check in 5/23
@jhysmath I waxed my legs and armpits last week and it was WAY less painful than I remember. It's been like 3 years since the last time I went in for it. Not even worth stressing about. I'm still a bit nervous for my next wax appt on 6/2 though. I can't remember from the questions thread whether you were a regular waxer or not. Fingers crossed yours goes very well!
@laj0217 baby showers are so fun! I love showers in general - how nice that she was able to hand down the big items! We are currently low-risk and our last ultrasound was our 20 wk anatomy scan in April. I keep hoping it'll just work out to have another one at any point because I really enjoyed seeing him move around in there! One of our close friends didn't want the epidural and she said if they have another, she'll forego it again. My biggest piece of advice is to let your care team know you don't want to see the needle if you end up going that route. It's pretty common for them to keep it out of view for patients. I get woozy if I see needles, so I let my team know when I had DS and they made sure I couldn't see it. After it's out, I care much less but I CANNOT see a needle before it goes in or while it goes in or I'll get lightheaded. On that note, I'll be getting it with DS2.
@dsmith211 guinea pig?! CUUUUTE! & @mk2022x I could totally go for a large tub of movie theater popcorn right now! Glad you had a nice trip. I love thinking about all the things we'll do next year together! I was just talking about the RhoGAM shot with my husband this weekend, but I couldn't remember the name of it. We don't know DH's blood type, but they didn't test him since I'm Rh+. My sister-in-law mentioned opting for a surrogate if they ever did decide to have kids (currently on the doesn't want to get pregnant or have kids boat), and it led to a discussion about finding a suitable surrogate and then considering their blood type since they're both Rh+. I imagine it'd be a bit of pressure to make sure it's all going to go well. I wondered whether they could still choose whomever they'd like and just know that the surrogate would need the shot if she was Rh-. Seems too simple.
@puzzlehead11 I registered on Amazon and at Target
@mnmomma84 Yay for outside kicks! I'm also going back and forth between ravenous and no appetite. That's a bunch of bologna about the extra charges from your hotel. Early check-out?! Really? If they got paid for the overnight, it shouldn't matter what time you leave. I've also never heard of paying for parking for a hotel you have accommodations with. I apparently need to travel more.
@kboydbowman That will be such a nice trip - very excited for you! As far as shaving, I can no longer see around the bump, and scheduled a wax appt. I'll be following for tips as well. Last week I got my legs and underarms waxed and my tech recommended some "Flamingo" wax strips they have at target. I'm tempted to go pick some up and try it myself before spending $75 next week to have someone else do it… The legs were TOTALLY worth it! On the next round, I might try the strips on my legs myself. I'm considering whether I'll need to recruit my little sister to help with the backs of my thighs lol. I'm not very spa-like at home, and though I enjoy them, I don’t do lots of makeup or girly routines often. (Sorry to our English professionals. My commas show up where they want to). My recent wax research did bring up exfoliating a few days before waxing and I'm guessing it helped because it was nowhere near as painful as I remembered it being.
@wiseh Your job is so neat! Now it's even more interesting to me. I've always loved climbing, so naturally, I want to try climbing it lol It drives my husband nuts. He's always telling me to be more careful.
@chelsraec Just 1 more week until your anatomy scan - woohoo! So excited for you. That's definitely a highlight of the pregnancy!
@lalarose22 Glad you'll get the 32 week scan! How great to get to see LO again. Good luck with your family pics!
@pangolindrome I'm so in love with the name y'all chose - it's so sweet!
@whitta1015 how was your appt?
@millygolitely Pre-baby vacation sounds like a GREAT idea! I'm curious to hear more about how you have it arranged. I need to schedule in some time for yoga. I'm glad I did every time I do it, I just need to do it.
@lillienne so glad you have such a great fit for your OBGYN! Ours is very lively and excited about life - which makes our appt's upbeat and cheery, and I like that!
@lucyg00cy Yay for nursery progress! The crib, dresser, and painting are BIG steps in there! Which color did you go with? I've known my blood type since high school when I started donating. They asked me during our NIPS draw what my type was though.
@newbabymama27 Planting is such a rewarding time of year! I love when all the planters are prepped and ready with soil just waiting for the fresh new plants! I've also heard that waxing while pregnant can be more sensitive, but I had the opposite experience last week. Could be worth a shot!
@blanket_girl BEACH VACATION! YES!
@ashking0922 Our little guy measured 30th percentile at our anatomy scan and we aren't schedule to get one. I wish I could get scheduled for a growth scan, just because I want to see him again! I understand the worry that would go with it, but my fingers are crossed that everything is well for you and that you can enjoy seeing her during your next scan!
@bigworldlittleg That is such a great initiative! 4-day weekend is always nice.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴?: I'm still nauseous in the mornings; I'm not surprised though. I can't count the number of times I heard with DS1 how it's supposed to go away after first tri. It doesn’t always work that way. I mentioned it briefly in my 24 wk appt on Monday because I'm losing my cookies more than I did with DS1, and my OB gave me a couple recommendations that I hadn't heard before; Vitamin B6: 12.5-25mg 2-3 times/day, Unisom: half tab in the morning, full tab at night - may cause drowsiness, or Benadryl: 25mg 2/day - can also cause drowsiness. I'm thinking my previous OB didn't offer anything up because while nauseous, I was able to keep my cookies. That is the lightest way I could think to explain it. Beyond the nausea though, I feel pretty great. I get tired sooner and can't walk as fast for as long without breathing harder, but I still have pretty good flexibility and energy, so I just keep trucking.
𝗥𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: I can't turn off the voice in my head that says getting healthy is counteracting the pregnancy gains on the scale. Zig grew in measurements by 1 day between each of our 3 scans. I also can't fight off the guilt I'm having for thinking I'm right when my OB clearly says I should gain. The next paragraph is me venting in detial: feel free to skip.
I gained back the pound that I lost at our last appt, so at least I'm not going backwards anymore. I talked to my OB again about how much I should be gaining. She still insists 11-20 pounds and recommended protein, brisk walking, and light resistant training (bands). I've never tried gaining weight before. When I'm healthy, I have more muscle than the average 5'5" bear. Right now, I have more fat than is preferred for my personal health goals. I went from 170 to 195 before birth with DS1 - that was all in my healthy range and I felt confident about my weight gain during that one. Over the last two years I gained weight in fat stores and reached my heaviest at 245, so I know I have plenty of fat to lose. I was on my way back down when I got pregnant. I'm 219 with DS2 (up 2 pounds from our first appt in Jan). It's such a mind boggle to manage my weight by gaining while already overweight. My legs have slimmed down considerably and my eating habits are better - less desserts, but my activity and lifting have all but fallen off. Every part of me feels like getting healthy should be tracked by more than the scale, but I'm not getting any support for that. The body scanners I've used in the past aren't supposed to be used while pregnant, so I'm not even sure how they could measure it. I looked up a few examples of where the weight comes from in the recommended gains and that helped get my head wrapped around what's healthy to gain in "baby weight", but it doesn't mean I couldn't lose fat (HAHAHA I have WAY more than 6-8 lb. stored).
Where does pregnancy weight gain go?
Let's say your baby weighs in at 7 or 8 pounds (about 3 to 3.6 kilograms). That accounts for some of your pregnancy weight gain. What about the rest? Here's a sample breakdown:

𝗚𝗧𝗞𝗬: what's your biggest fear? I second @pangolindrome's and @blanket_girl's husband dying fear. I think about it way too often and just end up crying. We have a 9 year age gap and I hate when he brings it up. He's my best friend and I don't want to think about life without him.
visit to my parents / family before the
third trimester and eating all the foods I can’t get in Nebraska (specifically eggplant parmigiana and decent pizza) … can you tell I’m constantly thinking about food this week
Now I’m just trying to forget about all of them and just focus on where I’m at now …
@babywiik My OB said I can still eat, just probably shouldn't opt for cinnamon toast crunch cereal and apple juice... toast and eggs or the like would be a better choice on that particular day
The glucose drink is like a flat, super syrup-y soda.
@maple1422 I have no doubt it hurts less 😂 it’s more of how much pain can I take before it outweighs the fear 🤷🏻♀️
I will try to find the study and link it so you can take it to your HCP.
This is from ACOG though, that say that if foetal growth is not affected then mums should not be told to gain weight just for the sake of gaining weight.

@foreveronyourside apparently I get cranky pretty fast now. I don’t even feel it coming out that way, but DH has been commenting.

Rave: Bebe is kicking and rolling on the regular now! So great to feel that reassurance.
Yes, it’s pain, but unlike basically any other time we experience it, this pain is a signal of something productive rather than something going wrong— and it’s bringing you closer and closer to meeting your baby!
nothing compares to Texas junebugs though...
