Re: Let's Talk Baby Names

  • I'll start - The boy person is stubborn as hell.  Since the baby will have my last name, the agreement is that the initials will be his (C.J.).  Well, we've found a "J" we both like reasonably well (Jasper).  The "C," however, is a bit harder.  He hates EVERYTHING.  Except for the one he put forward, which falls under the "no way in hell" category - Charlemagne.  Yeah.  You read that right.  And the other C he likes is "Coyote." I have told him absolutely not on that.  I'm leaning toward Cillian right now (but pronounced with a hard C so it sounds like Killian, although I'm fine with a soft C as well - Sillian).  I also like Campbell (my dad's middle name), Cadence, Casey, Chadwick, Channing, Cyril, Cai, and Constantine.  Any thoughts for C names that are slightly unusual but not ridiculous?

@kboydbowman how about Cyler/ar? Could be pronounced Syler or Kyler. I also like Campbell after your dad.
Also thanks for starting this thread!
  • @babywiik I'll ask, but knowing him he'll probably say:

    a)  "That sounds like Cylon from Battlestar Galactica," and
    b)  "Sounds like Schuyler and I don't like Schulyer"

    And you're welcome. :)

@kboydbowman just spitballing some unique C student names I’ve seen (being a teacher I see a lot.. I’ll just spell it how the students spell it but obviously it’s open to interpretation)

Cascper, Cassius (cash-us), Cash, Callen, Callum, Cru, Creighton, Clifford
  • I think Cyrus and Jasper have a similar feel to them on your list. I liked Colin and Callum,  but my husband nixed both of them.

We’re leaning towards Ephraim and calling him Remy. Trying to use Remy in the day to day to see how we like it in everyday use. Middle name is 100% Lee because everyone in my husbands family (girl and boy, siblings, is Lee). We agreed to only use it for 1 boy, though.
  • @laj0217 my friend’s nephew is Remi (short for Remington) and his name is just so adorable and suits him so well! Its simple and rolls off the tongue, I absolutely love it.
  • @newbabymama27 we’re like 95%. I feel like Remy is definitely a nickname, and I want the baby to have an adult/professional option, if he wants it, and we thought Ephraim would work for that.
  • @kboydbowman How about Cornelius or Conrad?
  • I think we voted Cornelius because it shortens to "corny."  Not loving conrad, plus for us that's the one doctor from The Resident.

  • Lol my grandfather and uncle go by Neil. What about Coriander, Coleman, Calpernius, Corey, Carson, Caseon, Canaan, Cyan, Cypress, Cain, Creedance, Cabot
  • lol a few of those have already been rejected by him.  "Coleman" has a very specific negative meaning in prison psychology, so that one's out.  Other comments from previous attempts have yielded "no colors, no plants, nothing Biblical."

  • @kboydbowman a few suggestions: Corbin, Cormac, Claude, Cannon, Carmine, Cayden, Cedric, and of course....there's always Cosmo, after the one and only Cosmo Kramer! lol good luck!!
  • He liked Cosmo!  That's going on the list!  All of the others are ones he had already rejected.

  • @kboydbowman What about Caldwell? Very sturdy as a first name, though commonly a last one.
    DD 10/2019
  • @kboydbowman Callum or Calder are unique!
  • We’re thinking names over as we speak although fiancé won’t make a list because he’s upset I won’t let us name the kid after him as a junior…sorry not sorry, he’s already getting his last name the baby doesn’t need his first name too! 🤷🏼‍♀️

I like Henry (family name on both sides)- fiancé says no, no real reason just apparently doesn’t like it.

We have two names we somewhat like but im too afraid to even say them in fear I’ll jinx it and fiancé will change his mind or come up with some reason why he doesn’t like them. Who knew picking out a name could be so hard.
  • @kboydbowman
From the options provided my vote would be for Chadwick, his nickname would probably end up being Chad with his friends. It different but not ridiculous or anything and it flows well with Jasper.
  • @lucyg00cy
Per your husbands upset-ness about the junior thing...my brother is a junior and my uncle is a junior, it has been miserable on them. Everyone always messes up there names, social security numbers, etc. It's very difficult. Not saying it couldn't work but my dad tells me all the time he wishes he wouldn't have named my bro after him, and my uncle has always hate being a junior. Makes things more difficult then it needs to be.
My dad actually told me a story that was on the news the other day about a son who went to buy a car and he's a junior and they gave him an amazing interest rate, just to find out later the reason he got that amazing interest rate is because they ended up pulling up his dads credit history instead of his own, so not only did he get a great monthly payment and interest cause of his dads credit history but now they sold a car to the wrong person and it's now on the wrong credit account, crazy right? I would have been furious, but the child did it unknowingly besides wondering wow didn't think my interest rate would be that good. It wasn't until later that they found out when he father noticed a ping on his credit report. -- so I agree with you. Don't recommend junior ha
  • Thankfully my husband and I have agreed even before we decided to have kids what there names would be. We have three picked out. First boy would be named "Odin James" after the great god Odin, and my uncle James. My uncle sacrificed himself to save his friends life in a car wreck when I was little, and he was a great cook ;)  Girls name we have is Eiko Faye. If we have a second boy in the future he would be named Sebastian Osiris. All have good meanings behind them, and flow well. - I'm really hoping we have a boy :) Still about 1.5 months away from finding out though.
  • Gracelyn Kaye - not sure if it should be spelled with 2 n’s. Hearing my 2 year old son say her name absolutely melts my heart.
  • @kboydbowman my son is Callum and he goes by Cal! I was a little unsure of his name at first but absolutely love it and it totally fits him! I think it’s starting to become more common on my area!
  • Our last name is King and the ones we have for our daughter so far are Diana, Gwen, Whisper, or Moon
we suck at middle names so we haven’t come up with any of those yet
  • @naturelover1019 my cousin who is a Jr had the opposite problem, he couldn't get student loans because he father had claimed bankruptcy, he had a mortgage on his house, and the best part, when he was looking for student loans, his father had been dead for 10 years. You would think someone would get a clue, they have different social security numbers, how can this all be messed up?
  • @naturelover1019 and @jhysmath WOWWW, I honestly never even thought about those things happening. How awful to have to deal with everyone you try and go buy something and how scary that credit can be dinged for the wrong person- that can really create issues. Totally agree on how it even happens to begin with considering SSN should be unique but I guess some sales-folk just don’t pay attention.
  • Cosmo is cute, but all I can think about is Cosmo Kramer. 🙊
    DD 10/2019
  • @trapperkeeper87
lol I know but it's actually a British name, so that works for us ethnically!  and Jasper is Persian, which is mostly what the boy person is (he is a true "mutt," but 23 and me says he's about 30% Persian, which was the highest percentage).

  • My son's name is Cohen so that's obviously my favorite c name! And my nephew is Carson.

Hahaha @kboydbowman if ours is a boy we have Cillian (with a hard C) as our top name too, but my mum says he would be teased and called "killer" in school.

Our DD has a Dutch name because my family is Dutch. My husband is Irish so we are going with an Irish name this time.

Our names for boys are Cillian, Augustus, Tadhg (tie-g), Cian (like Ian but with a k sound) and Brannon

Girls names are Niamh, Saoirse (sheara-sha), Roisin (row-sheen) (means pretty little rose), Sadhbh (sigh-v) (means wise), Cadhla (ky-lah) (means grace), Aine (awn-ya), Florence and Fiadh (fia)
  • @ashking0922 something about Diana King sounds so classic and sounds so good! I like it!
  • @wiseh Augustus is on our short list too! That was my grandfather’s name 😊 I also have a cousin named Aine. They wanted something for my side’s Irish heritage, but something her fathers Spanish speaking side could pronounce. It’s a beautiful name.
  • Been waiting on this thread because I need more ideas. My husband says "no" to all of my suggestions, but of course hasn't provided any suggestions of his own yet. My fav boy name so far is Hayes and he does like that, but hasn't agreed to it yet. My other favorites are Jack, Grady, Tucker, Sam, Maddox, Mack. We want something simple and strong. Baby will likely have my dad's middle name, Douglas.
  • @whitta1015 isn't that infuriating??

  • I'd love to hear thoughts on the name Emerson for a girl. My oldest is Mackenzie Jo and we love the name Emerson Reese with a nn of Emmie.  Our oldest goes by Kenzie, my mom has told me that Emerson sounds like a strong manly name. I know that it's a traditionally masculine name, but so is Mackenzie... I think that in my hormonal state I care too much about my moms opinion.

@fluffy1187 a lady from my DD BMB has a daughter called Emerson that goes by Emmy for short too. Another mum from my DD BMB has a daughter called Mackenzie too! haha. I love them both
  • @Fluffy1187 the only Emerson I know is a girl! I think it’s adorable as a girls name. Especially with a nn of Emmie. It’s also a good sibset, Mackenzie and Emerson.
  • @whitta1015 love Hayes! We have a Jack and if this one if a boy, our top choice is Samuel. Love strong names!

@Fluffy1187 I think Emerson is adorable!!
  • Names I'm loving right now that my husband also likes..
    Boy: Samuel, Theodore, Mathias
    Girl: Eleanor, Lucy, Charlotte

@Fluffy1187 I think Emerson has become an increasingly girl name over the last few years. I’ve only heard of girls with that name and I love the nickname Emmie! I’ve also never heard of men named Mackenzie but had plenty of girls in my school with that name.
  • @kboydbowman Very! Also, I love the idea of using Campbell for a boy. I also love Crew, Carter, and Camden.

@Fluffy1187 Our neighbors have a daughter named Emerson and we always just call her Em. I love it! I've never heard of a boy being named Emerson.

@lalarose22 I love Samuel too! Our daughter now is named Liza, so I'd love something short to go with it.
