Re: Weekly Randoms 3/21

  • Update to my UTI saga - they’re happy the numbers went down so they want to give it a little more time to see if the antibiotics are still doing something. So going to re-test Friday before deciding if I need to do more.

At the very least I’m excited bc they immediately didn’t jump to put me right back on more antibiotics.
  • Loading the player...
  • Turns out moisturizing helps keep the scabs on your hands until they’re actually ready to go. Yeah, gross, but I really need these suckers to stay. Exposed bits that aren’t supposed to be hurt way worse, especially inside the thumb joint because we use our thumbs for freaking everything, yall!
  • Update to *my* UTI saga - they're gonna put me on IV antibiotics for 3 days.  My boss better let me work from home and not try to make me take sick leave because we're in the middle of like 3 major audits right now (plus I will totally be able to work, I just can't be on site for safety and hygiene reasons with a needle taped into my arm).
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

  • I feel fat and gross today.

  • @kboydbowman
Me too. My maternity pants were falling down all day yesterday and being a huge pain in the butt so I wore normal pants and it is not flattering and my cardigan doesn't cover me up well. I think tomorrow I'm going to decide to wear leggings and a dress and hope it's not as terrible looking.
  • I bought work pants one size up with an elastic band and I’m hoping they’ll last through May. So far, they’re working out pretty well. My regular pants require a hair tie now. I haven’t quite committed to buying maternity work pants. I’m just not sure I’ll get enough use out of them to justify the expense since a good chunk of my bigger days will be during summer break. Dresses for the win lol.

I’m also living in either dresses or exercise shorts. I cannot stand maternity pants/jeans, they just never fit your bump right!

I hope your boss lets you work from home @kboydbowman! From what you’ve been saying about her it doesn’t seem likely though 😩

I was reminiscing on my previous pregnancy and realised that around this time I was being admitted to hospital for surgery which then started my quite complex pregnancy, the flow on effects I’m still living with today. I guess it’s kind of also feeds into thankful Thursday because this pregnancy seems so easy compared to that one, that most of the time I forget that I am even pregnant.

    I have another random 😂

Today I found out that my great grandmother (my dad’s grandma) was a Romani gypsy. I also have a JV grandpa (my mum’s dad). I think that’s just such a random combination to be a descendent of.
  • Maybe it's different there, but most of the Romani I know consider the word gypsy to be a slur. They tend to prefer traveler.

  • The other school employees on this thread may find this interesting. Some of our babies will be a whole grade ahead of others due to kindergarten cut off dates.

In GA it is a strict 9/1 cutoff. So my son will start kindergarten closer to 6 y/o and some of y’all with babies at the end of the month will have already finished kindergarten. Just the things you think of when you’re avoiding work, but work at a school.
  • @laj0217 I didn't even think of that! I think where I am the cutoff is 8/1, so I didn't give it any thought. 🤯

That said, I was born in May and my last day of kindergarten was my 7th birthday (oh, the anxiety memories of that...). My mom started me a year late. It didn't seem to affect me, but I don't know. 🤷‍♀️

NH cut off is 9/30 but we'll be in NY by then and the NY cut off (at least in western NY) is 12/30 which I think is super late. Some kids will be 4 for almost half of their kindergarten year.
  • If you can swing it, you can get around that by having your kid do the first year or two in private school, where's there's usually not a strict cutoff.  Then move them to public school.  That's what my parents did with my brother - his birthday is Oct. 28th but we went to private school until he was entering 3rd grade.  So in public school thinking, he should be 2 years behind me (I'm a July baby), but he was only one year behind.  It worked out fine, although he was always the youngest kid in his grade lol.

  • Our cutoff is 9/1 here as well. Our daycare/preschool choice also sticks with the cutoff starting at the 3 year old classrooms so they have the time to adjust socially. So this LO will be one of the older kids in the class.

It will definitely be a different experience. Our son is a May baby so one of the younger kids typically, but he still does very well in school and is considered ‘ahead’. It will be interesting I think to see the differences.

@kboydbowman the private schools follow the same rule here. They will allow it for a child who started school in another state and had proof of residency for 2 years in that state. The rules are weird.

@jhysmath and @trapperkeeper87  I think the dates are completely arbitrary state to state. It was just a weird aha moment this morning lol. It’ll be fine either way, but the logistics of September and this group tripped me up a little lol.
  • I just looked it up for California - apparently it's 9/1 here for public schools.  Not sure about private schools here.  Guess for me it will depend on whether or not they make me go in August or not lol

  • That’s what my husband said: just aim for 8/31 - like I can make that happen 😂
  • Here in Norway the classes go by thr year you're born and it's WA where I grew up it was the school year with a 9/1 cut off. If we continue to live here, DD (nov20)will be a grade older than her first cousin who is 8 weeks older than her(sept20). If we move back to the states then they'll be the same grade. I didn't realize that other states had different cut offs, I just assumed everyone had a 9/1 cut off
  • I live in WA and work in a private school. Our cut off is 8/31. Not going to lie I will be so happy with an extra year at home with him, I would rather have him be older than younger.
  • Y’all I just realized it means paying for a whole year more of daycare. Laughing and crying over here. 4 days = $9,000+ 😂😢😂

DH bought me StarCraft remastered and cartoon versions on sale as a spring break present. I was not expecting it at all and am really excited to play it!

Also I want to say now that I can exercise again and all that, it’s funny because I haven’t gained weight since like… a month. But I gained enough before that first appointment that I really want to only gain absolutely necessary weight 😂 I’d gained like 10lb by March 3rd at 186lb and today I was 186lb. Maybe that’s weird to be happy about.
  • Oh Canada - December 31st where I’m at for kindergarten cutoff. Crazy how different things are

I just realised that after I posted it, @kboydbowman 🤦‍♀️ I don't know much about them but did a little research last night.

Do you guys start kinder at 5/6 yo?? My DD will be in kinder next year at 3 turning 4! The cutoff date in my state is June 30 & she is born May 30. I'm so sad she's starting early but I am looking forward to not paying $40k AUD a year in childcare
  • @wiseh We can start with K3 or K4 here in South Carolina, but I don't think it's mandatory they start school until K5. My little one starts K4 this year in August and she will be 4 years old, turning 5 in December.
  • @whitta1015 congrats!!! Though intimidating bosses are tough to handle. I’m new to the group - what field do you work in?
  • @whitta1015
Congrats on the job!!! I think I'd rather just bow out and leave her behind then work the 2 weeks as a courtesy.
Is K3 and K4 just preschool?
Kindergarten isn't mandatory in NH but most districts are looking to fund full day public Kindergarten and some are starting preschool, by lottery. Granted NH doesn't even have strict homeschooling laws so you could just say your kid is being home schooled and no one checks in on you.
  • @newbabymama27 Thank you! Yes, it's gonna take some time to figure out what I'm going to say to her. I'm in Human Resources.
  • @whitta1015 congratulations on the new job! How soon do you start?
  • @whitta1015 Congratulations! Those tough bosses are the worst. I had one and when I told her I was leaving to go back to my old company - which I never bad-mouthed - she kept telling me how she hoped I was happy and that she didn't understand why I'd go back to a company I hated (I originally left the company because the role was no longer the right one for me). I also told her I was taking nursing pre-reqs and she wrote a very passive aggressive comment in my card about becoming a nurse one day. She was the worst! Micromanagement at its finest. 😖

Anyway. Best of luck to you! In a few weeks you'll be in greener pastures and won't have to look back!

  • @babywiik Thank you! Not sure yet. Depends on how my discussion with my current boss goes

@jhysmath I know it. I'm kind of leaning in that direction. But it's a small town and I worry she's gonna talk crap about me if I do that. I know that's dumb of me.
Also, yes, K-3 is just 3 year old Kindergarten (must be fully potty trained) and K-4 is for 4 year olds.
  • @whitta1015 oooh I’m a Staffing Advisor in HR too 😆 I haven’t met a lot of HR people post-university. Hope you like your new position!
  • @newbabymama27 Not the most fun career during a pandemic, that's for sure! haha
  • @whitta1015 congratulations on the job! Those benefits sounds pretty awesome
  • I think what ya'll are calling K3 and K4 is just what the rest of us call pre-kindergarten lol

    @whitta1015 Congratulations!

  • Anyone else playing the "is that digestion or could this be movement" game? I feel like I'm symptom spotting again because all the crazy people in the facebook birth month group are like I totally feel baby every day from like 8 weeks on...um no you don't that's called you have to fart.  But at 16 weeks tomorrow, I can't tell, especially seeing how it usually happens around meals, which means baby could be waking up or I could be digesting my food.
  • @jhysmath I’ve definitely been lying quietly in hopes, but I think all I’ve gotten so far is normal stomach digestion. But this is my first, so I don’t really know what I’m waiting for either lol.
  • @jhysmath I am the same way! I have never been pregnant before so I am thinking its just me willing there to be something. It always happens around meal time or when I am settling in to bed. But I always can feel when anything is different in my body, I always know when I have an ear infection before a doctor can tell. So maybe I am actually feeling baby!

@whitta1015 Congrats - it sounds like it'll be a great new chapter for you! I'm glad you'll have a chance for a new boss.

@laj0217 - Dresses ALL summer for me! I might just live in swimsuit cover-ups for the majority of it.
Also I felt your note on 4 days = $9k  right down in my soul.

@wiseh - We started DS at our local Montessori at 4yo and he went there until he started Kindergarten at 5.75yo (December bday). We'll likely start this baby around 3yo. I wish I had known about this school sooner with DS - they were the best!

@jhysmath On Sunday I thought I did, but chalked it up to digestion and like you said, that symptom spotting mindset. Monday, however, I knew was the real deal. It was kind of like a flashback, and I felt silly for doubting myself. Then trying to explain what it felt like to DH was comical.

*Edit* Just saw the dreams thread. Moved my craziness over there.
  • @jhysmath @laj0217 @mamamoomoo12

I’m 17 weeks today and have been “not sure if I feel baby” the last couple weeks. But today. HOLY CRAP. There is no way to describe it except “something inside my body did a flip and it was not my own body”… it was WILD.
