Ok. Who’s ready?! I feel like we should start talking about going private. Our group is so small, I’m hoping that this will bring us out of our shells a little bit.

Let’s throw out ideas of how we want to do this!

With my last BMB, a couple regulars were the admins on a private Bump group. We had everyone post a picture (in the private group) of themselves with a random object. The picture had to also include their face, bump, and a handwritten note with their username and due date. We let everyone join who wanted to since this seemed like a pretty safe way to weed out any catfish. From there we all got much closer and eventually moved to a different platform. But that can be a discussion for later.

What are your thoughts/ideas?

I'm on board! I'm so checked out of work that I am on here often lookin for activity haha. I creep on May, June, and Aug 😂.

We didn't migrate in my last BMB so it is all new to me. I think the picture idea sounds good - I definitely don't want any trolls finding their way in. I would be open to being an admin on TB if needed, but do not want to responsibility when we move to FB.

This sounds good to me! I'm open to being an admin since well... I'm sorta admin of the BMB creating most of the threads 😆. I swear I do work during work hours haha. I like the idea of starting off in a private group then deciding from there if we want to move to a different platform.

I’d be happy to have both you and @inthewoods23 as admins. When do you think we should get it set up? And the most important question, what should our random object be?!

I'm game. Private on here is fine. I've never done that, we always moved to Facebook, but I'm totally happy with that idea. And the photo sounds good.

I’m in, and fine with a private TB group first. TBH I’m way more active on FB so it would be awesome if we ended up there eventually.

I’m down for a private group on here. I don’t have Facebook so I’d prefer the bump for now. What happens to this public group when we make a private one?

@zinnia19 in my past bump groups, there tends to be a transition period where people are active in both the public and private. And sometimes there are a few women who don't want to move, so a couple people try to stick around. And of course there are always random posts. But over time, the public group basically becomes dead in terms of activity.

I’m very pro-private group. I tend to get more interactive once things get locked down.

@zinnia19 once we go private, the public group stays up and open but basically dies since none of us use it to interact. But all past posts stay unless the OP chooses to take it down.

I'm fine with moving and impartial with where. Moving private/FB now is much earlier than my last month group, but this group is also much smaller (which I still find so weird). I ended up not moving to FB with them when they made the move, but have done both a FB move and bump private groups with other groups in the past. I am admittedly bad at staying up to date with things on FB.

I’d be up for a private group. I’d prefer FB just because it’s more user friendly than the bump, especially mobile, but would still participate in private here, especially since not everyone is on FB

Count me in for the private bump group! I think it's a great idea to move over there first and then move to FB once we hit late June/July. I like the idea of the picture once in the private group! In order to get added to DD's private bump group you had to get two "love its" on your request to join - this was just to verify that people recognized your name and you weren't a total stranger. Here was the description:

If anyone would like to join the private group let us know here. Once you have two “votes” I will send an invite and you will be able to accept it and join! It is not a popularity contest, once someone has two votes do not vote them again. If for some reason you do not get two “votes” please continue to post on the main boards so we can get you added to the private group once two people have seen you posting more often you will get added in!

We did the photo thing in my last group and it worked well. We had to have a colander on our head. Random enough that you cant really photo shop/find pictures on-line and it was pretty funny.

I will post more if it is private... i definitely dont do photos until private.

I also would prefer FB but will try a private group here first if that's the consensus.

I don't use FB at all, but I understand that I am in the minority on this one. I have never used a private TB group but would be willing to try it!

I like the idea of doing a private bump group first before jumping to a new platform completely. That way we can do the verification photo and weed out any catfish. We don’t have to stay in the private bump group for long if we end up not liking it (we had some issues with people not being able to access it as easily in my last BMB), but at least then we can feel more comfortable migrating.

I’ll also add that we did have a rule that you needed to stay active in order to stay in the group. We had a rule of commenting at least once a month, even if it was to just say “hi, I’m super busy right now, thinking of you guys.” We didn’t end up following our own rule though lol. At the 1 year mark we did end up asking a few inactive members if they wanted to get more involved. Some ended up removing themselves, but no one was ever kicked out. I guess that’s something we can talk about later on too.

@zwink1 I’m also so shocked by how small our group is! I swear we’re in a big baby boom so where is everyone!?

@feather_heather We also did something similar to the “love its” to request to join. But I think everyone who requested was allowed in. We had a couple who didn’t handwrite their usernames and needed to retake their photos, but everything worked out in the end.

@cmhme Lol at the colander! We did a pineapple for my last group. We now refer to our babies as the pineapples, and we’re the pineapple moms, and any siblings born after the pineapples are referred to as pina colada lol.

Let’s get this party started! Are we all ok with @inthewoods23 and @jellie603 being admins? If not we could also do a vote (we did this in my last group but I don’t know if we’re really big enough for this to work). Then we can just comment here that you want to be added. Once you’re added into the private group you’ll have a week or 2 to get your verification photo done (if you don’t get it done in time you may be asked to leave). Does that sound good to everyone?

This is such a clever way to go private! I'm totally in, but I haven't been posting as much recently. Work has been so busy and being back in the office SUCKS. My previous BMB, we had too many people who would never share pictures because they were trying to "stay private" but to this day I'm convinced they were catfish. It ended up exploding into this massive argument when we were switching over to Proboards/Tapatalk. now I have them all on IG and FB and it's wild to see our babies now 6 year olds. Bump group friends are so special

A private group here sounds nice because I don’t have any other social media (no Instagram and no Facebook) so I’d lose you all if it went to one of those platforms, which sucks because I do find this little community to be helpful during pregnancy, but I do understand because of the popularity of them and the ease of use.

I’d love to be considered. I know I haven’t posted at all (except for my intro today) but I’ve been here for a few months now. Was sick and high risk pregnancy so we weren’t sure this baby would stay with us. I love this forum and would love to join the private group.

Yeah, I haven't been super active but I try to be as active as I can. I find it a little hard to be more active because with having a carrier I'm not currently the pregnant one but I try to share when and where I can so I hope I would be considered still cuz I'd love to be able to stay connected once my boy is officially in my arms.

Personally, I'm fine with anyone joining, as long as they can provide a verification photo. We're so small as it is, the more the merrier lol. Plus, I view the private bump group as kind of the half way step to becoming fully open (if that makes any sense). But I can understand how it would make some people uncomfortable. Open to hearing other people's opinions!

So when and by whom is creating/starting the private group?

As for who to allow in... My opinion is that the point of the PG is so that we can be more personal/open by showing our faces, saying our names, etc since we've gotten to know each other for the last few months. So anyone who has shown up in the last week or two (unless they have heavily participated already) would not join us in the PG because we don't have any idea who they are. I kind of equate this to all of us hailing a cab to go hang out somewhere and some random person asks to come along. It's just awkward to share with a complete stranger

If someone that just showed up recently is interested in joining the PG, then they should continue to post and engage in this group for awhile first.

@feather_heather I was thinking that after I posted yesterday.

Sounds like those of us that have been here since the beginning of our pregnancies will be posting both here and in the PG. Anyone relatively new will still have opportunities for engagement in the public space so we get to know them and they get to know us. Once they've regularly participated for a while (a few weeks or a month?) we can invite them to the PG.

Anyone just showing up now and wanting to be in the PG is kind of weird to me. We've all been talking this whole time and there was no exclusion to participation.

That said @peppylilfoxy I immediately recognized you. I know you have a carrier and aren't pregnant and full participation is probably difficult because of that. But as far as I'm concerned, you have been here participating where you can from the start. And I think you should be in the PG.

Has anyone thought up a fun name for the PG so it's not a boring "July 2022 Babies"?

So far all I can think of is fireworks/firecrackers or the sun. Oh... maybe July Beach Babes/Babies?? Or is that too feminine?
