@melyrae It's okay to not have questions every single time. This appointment is usually just a check up type thing before all the more important appointments begin (anatomy scan, glucose testing, etc.).
@melyrae my questions are usually pertinent to how I’m feeling. If I have a new ache/pain or symptom, I usually like to ask about it just to confirm. Then, if you’re a ftm or at a new location, I don’t think it would start to hurt to ask if you’ll see other midwives/OBs because you might be interested in being introduced sooner rather than later!
@babez_mom I also wouldn’t worry about the tuna, I think it just means don’t eat it for every meal. I’ve been eating it about once every week or so ☺️
@costaricamom do you have Lorna Jane in Costa Rica? I have their maternity shorts & they’re super supportive. I’ve also got some 2XU shorts and they seem like they will be supportive but they’re designed to be worn from 3rd tri so the bump part is wayyyy too big.
@melyrae the only thing I would probably ask is what the process is for the rest of your pregnancy. What tests will you have, how often will your appointments be, etc.
Ok gals…. Acne. Between mask wearing, hormones and a still unbalanced diet due to aversions still my skin has seen better days. I am not prone to breakouts but I cannot seem to keep my skin clear lately. I used to love Indie Lee gentle daily exfoliating pads and they would instantly do the trick of clearing my skin up but are now a no go because some ingredients are not baby safe.
Help! I am so frustrated and wanting to feel confident in my skin again. 🤗
@mamamoomoo12 Saying this with the caveat that every doctor is different, but mine gave me a list of products that are okay to use for acne. I’ve been using a Neutrogena acne face wash with salicylic acid. It’s reduced the breakout from teenager to on my period acne.
@mamamoomoo12 I highly recommend the ordinary rosehip seed oil and the pixi glow toner (at shoppers drug mart for me). I only use rosehip seed oil on my face for moisturizer and it is like a miracle for me, it evened my skin tone a lot
@mamamoomoo12 mine has seen better days too! When I was pregnant with DS1, my skin was soooo clear all pregnancy, so I'm convinced I'm having a girl this time When my skin isn't looking the best, I try to drink more water, cut back on dairy, and use a gentle cleanser + coconut oil for moisturizer. All pregnancy safe and natural, but might take more time to clear up. Hang in there!
So I exclusively formula fed baby #1 and she's perfectly healthy and it was great and all of that. I've never been one of those women who are die-hard about breastfeeding but I'm slightly considering it this time. I've always been hesitant because I work full-time outside of the home and am gone from 7:15 - 5:45 each day. I know I can pump and even exclusively pump but any advice from full-time working (not at home) moms would be helpful!
@Fluffy1187 I'm in the same boat as you. This is my 3rd and I still can't tell if I'm feeling flutters or my mind is tricking me.
@whitta1015 I exclusively breastfed/pumped for my kids. I actually loved pumping at work. It was nice to get a break for a minute. I would have a snack and pump while I watched a show or listened to a podcast for a minute. I kept a little cooler in the fridge for my milk but it was a jujube bag so everyone just assumed it was my lunch bag.

I have been wondering about the flutters, also. It totally is most likely gas at this point, but sometimes I feel that familiar “kick” in the bladder. This is my third so I’m not sure if I’m just hoping that it’s the baby or not.
I also was a working mom and pumping (not exclusively) during the workday. The second time around went much better than the first because my employer had a wonderful, dedicated space that was comfortable and welcoming. I rather enjoyed my time pumping with a snack and an ebook or show and managed to pump for a solid year or so with great supply! My employer during the first gave me an IT closet and a school desk/chair and it was freezing in the space. I think I quit pumping around 5 or 6 months and we just switched to formula. I think it largely depends on your commitment to it and how supportive your employer is for pumping moms. Work out a schedule that works for you and try to make the best of your pumping “breaks.” It’s definitely not easy, but I found it super rewarding.
@Fluffy1187 at this point it's likely wishful thinking lol....but who knows?
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
@whitta1015 I bf and pumped for both of my kids, and worked full time out of the house. I'm a teacher so my hours aren't as long, but the ability to take a "break" even to pee is a lot harder I feel than most jobs as you have to have coverage which usually means one of your colleagues is losing their free time.
I suggest, learning everything you can before baby comes for the mechanics of things. Know that it works on supply and demand, the more you nurse/pump the more milk you'll make (yes there are exceptions to this). I would make sure you have a good hand free pumping bra I had one for my second age it was a game changer. Get a good double electric pump from insurance (spectra s1/s2 or motif luna are my favorites) get a couple sets of pumping flanges/bottles so you don't have to wash as often. (with my first I had to do dishes every night because I only had one set). If you can get a mini fridge where you work do so, if not look into a good cooler with good ice packs. Make sure you have boob accessible clothing so you don't have to undress to pump (I made that mistake wearing a dress once.)
If you want to exclusively pump, and have ig take a look at onewiththepump and bemybreastfriend they both have oversupply (so a bit unrealistic) , but they have full time pumping schedules and how to go about optimizing that.
Cloth diapering- we have decided to cloth diaper (pocket diapers) once baby is grown out of newborn disposables- does anyone here have experience with this or advice or is thinking the same?!! 🍼
@mtlpeanut I've cloth diapered both of our daughters. My biggest suggestion is to get a variety of types she styles so you find what you like best. Then you can get more of those and you're not stuck with a ton of a type you thought you would like, but don't. Also add baby grows you may change your mind to what your favorites are and what works best with your baby.
Second tip find a good wash routine. After years of reading on the topic before I had kids, I decided most solutions were tide powder so I went with that. Knowing this, I've been able to help friends with their laundry issues when they end up getting stink.
Third, it's OK to only part time cloth, different phases of life happen and sometimes just making things easier is OK. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.
@mtlpeanut Everything @jhysmath is spot on. The biggest issue for us was really the wash routine, but once you have that, you should be golden. I like to buy our diapers from www.greenmountaindiapers.com because they are a smaller business with incredible amounts of information on their site.
We cloth all day except during nap (because my daughter poops every single time she goes down for her nap and I don't always want to rinse a cloth [but we always plop the poop, whether cloth or sposie, because it's the responsible - and far less stinky - thing to do]) and bedtime. This just works really well for us. Her preschool doesn't allow cloth, so she goes in sposies there, and occasionally if we're going to be out for a long time. But it really depends on your situation. It really doesn't have to be all or nothing, which is great.
I cloth diapered my last baby and it was pretty easy. I used both prefolds and all-in-ones. I bought pretty much everything used and then stripped them. We put a diaper sprayer on the downstairs toilet, sprayed them out and then tossed them in the bin to wash every two days. My biggest complaint about cloth is how bulky they are. It even makes it so you can't buckle the car seat as tight as you should. I also sold my diapers after the last kid because I didn't plan on any more, so I'll probably disposable diaper this one because I don't want to bother with cloth again! I am lazy in my old age haha.
If baby measured at 11 weeks 6 days on Friday, does that mean that baby measured at A) 11 weeks and 6 days of pregnancy OR having existed for 11 weeks and 6 days?
I have been SO CONFUSED about all this but it finally sank in that my pregnancy IS counted from start of last period. I don’t know why that took so long 😅 Thank you for helping me understand this!
@mtlpeanut I also recommend getting a variety of different types of nappies to see which you like best. I was convinced I’d pocket with my DD so I went out & bought heaps, but turns out I hated stuffing nappies so I rarely used them & went back to disposables.
This website has a wealth of info. It is Australian so the detergent recommendations might not be relevant, but all the other info on how to do a proper clean, what a good routine is, the effects of water hardness, etc. are all super relevant for you ☺️
@pangolindrome Of pregnancy. The baby has been in existence for whatever date they give you -2 weeks.

@wiseh I HATE stuffing pockets too. I cannot stand unstuffing them either. The only pockets I'm okay with are the Lalabye Baby because they have snaps and open on both sides so I don't have to unstuff.
@mamamoomoo12 I believe there are some facebook groups for dads he could search for, and there I believe are also reddit ones. I haven't heard of one like the bump though.
@mamamoomoo12 not a group, but I know The Birth Hour podcast has a Partner Podcast now hosted by her husband and talks with other spouses about their wives pregnancy and labor experiences from their perspective
@mamamoomoo12 See if there is anything on Facebook events in your area too or even just google. Where I lived when I had my DD they had "dads & beers" meetings once a month or so for expecting and new dads to get together.
@lalarose22 I didn’t find it until after my first and listened to aaaaall the episodes before my second! I love it! I love that she covers so many variations of preferences, plans, experiences, etc.
@mokay19 yes, same! It made me so excited for what my experience was going to be. I kept track of everything in a note in my phone when I was in labor so I would remember all the little details!
@lalarose22 I have both mine in notes, too! My first, I put in a notes because it happened so fast that I made DH tell me stuff I couldn’t remember and I typed it up so I would be able to process it a bit. Then the second, I was able to actually remember it and typed it up for reference later!
