Re: March Appointments Thread

  • Had my first cervical ultrasound today, which went really well.  Baseline cervical length is 4.6 cm, which my OB was pleased with.  Also got to see the baby again, and he/she was waving their little arms and legs like crazy!  So cute!  Had my NIPT draw as well, so hopefully I'll know gender next week.

Next up is my NT scan on Thursday...

  • @kboydbowman Yay for a good ultrasound and check-up today! So happy for you!
  • @kboydbowman congrats, how exciting! It seems we're on similar appointment schedules, though with different due dates. We saw our wiggling baby on ultrasound yesterday and I got a ton of blood drawn for NIPT and genetic scans of all sorts.
    First time mom-to-be, due 9/25/22

Some complicated chromosomal stuff going on - our fingers are crossed, but this may not go according to plan!

  • Had my NT scan today, everything looks good! Little girl was jumping all over the place and had her legs crossed.  Feeling some serious sense of relief to be at 12 weeks, have meeting with genetic counselor this week to discuss results of genetic screening (weird family history - but low risk)
  • Had the world’s fastest 12 week OB appointment today. Literally in and out in 20 minutes. Doctor was able to find the heartbeat using a Doppler (165 bpm!) but that was the extent of it besides being weighed and taking blood pressure. Is that how they normally go unless it’s one of the “bigger” ones like the first one and the 20w anatomy scan?

Considering it was in the middle of the workday I’m not really complaining, but I’m definitely glad we had our private scan on Saturday or I’d be wanting more. I’m not sure why they didn’t ask about the NT. We told them we didn’t want to do any blood genetic testing and maybe they loop it all together at my hospital?

also, happily, I gained the right amount of weight in first tri 😂 I would have SWORN I was up 8-10 lbs. Pregnancy is a trip.
  • Yes, that's pretty typical.  Most of your 1st and 2nd trimester visits are just "check in" visits.  No news is good news, right?

  • Yes, definitely! I’ll cheers to that!
  • Had my 12 week appointment today at 13 weeks. They did a bunch of stuff that I definitely didn't have done with my last pregnancy, but I was between hospitals so oh well. Got a pap, peed in a cup for a bunch of testing. Got a bunch of blood tests. Glucose test, and nipt test. Was told I need to go to the big hospital for my anatomy scan at 20 weeks because I'm 35 now. Also got scheduled for an afp test at my appointment in a week.

Now I just need to sit around and hope my eating like crap during vacation doesn't cause me to get a gd diagnosis this early.
  • @jhysmath
    Fingers crossed for no GD!!
  • Appointment today which I thought was the midwife appointment but it was actually the nurses appointment and blood draw. But I did get to hear the heartbeat today and I’ll meet with the midwife next week. I’ll also be doing an additional blood draw next week for the NIPT test.

My first appt taught me what blood type I have and now that Europeans are allowed to donate, I think I want to share my O+ after pregnancy.

Neither hubby nor I knew that baby could be jumping around so Friday’s US was a surprise that way, but it made us both feel good ☺️ Activity is good! There was so much jumping!
  • I had my appointment today and, like @pangolindrome, I was pleasantly surprised to see baby jumping around.

I can’t wait to join you ladies in the second trimester. So far, this first one has been quite nerve wracking.
  • Had my 16 week appt today (a little early bc my doctor is going out of town). It’s the first one my husband hasn’t been allowed to come to, which is sad. Got to hear the heartbeat again, a strong 155 bmp. I also have a yeast infection on my stomach which seems odd, but the doctor basically said our immune systems are lower in pregnancy and yeast is everywhere. So 1 week of a topical medicine and hopefully it’ll go away.
  • I'm annoyed.  Got out of work to a message on my phone that my doctor had to cancel her line for Thursday and the appointment would need to be rescheuled. Called back to the appointment line and there's nothing available with ANY doctor until next Friday.  Since I'm on a 2 week schedule for these cervical measurements, that's no bueno.  So they put in a message for the doctor(s) to call me back and figure it out (and gave them my work cell phone number so they can actually get a hold of me).  Ugh.  And the odds of being able to get something that doesn't make me miss work are slim.

  • @kboydbowman I feel your pain. I’ve not managed to have a single appointment in which I didn’t have to miss work and had to work in the evenings to make up for missed time. Will missing work potentially cause issues with your relatively new boss?
  • @puppiesandbabies
Yes.  If I were still under my old boss I wouldn't think twice about it.  And I had stacked this appointment with a nutritionist appointment so I would only be out one afternoon, but now it will be two different ones, because the nutritionist visit is still on the 17th.

  • @kboydbowman That is tough. But your health and baby’s health comes first. Based on how diligent you are with our threads and keeping notes, I would imagine that you are even more diligent with your work. Hopefully, your boss can see how hard you work and recognize that there has to be a good reason as to why you are missing work.
  • @puppiesandbabies
I've said in some other threads, but part of the issue is that I found out I was pregnant virtually the day my boss started working, so she has no idea of my work ethic (which is kind of infamous), but has been harassing me about my various appointments - thinks I'm gone too much and should be using FMLA to cover them (which is completely against our union agreement).  It's been very frustrating, and at some point if she continues I may have to make a formal complaint through HR/the union.  So far this week she hasn't said anything about stuff though.

  • @kboydbowman I’m sending you positive vibes and hoping that her not saying anything means that she does recognize your work ethic!
  • @kboydbowma Question! Does your boss treat everyone this way for time off? Is she verbally harassing you or do you have these recorded somewhere?

It's so odd to me when a manager doesn't accommodate for something like doctors appointments when you can just make up the time. Or you have PTO you can use for them. Its medically necessary appointments.
But in this case, her harassing you for going to these appointments ( and her knowing you are pregnant) almost sounds like discrimination. Also her asking you to take FMLA, if it goes against your union contract, is definitely not okay. She could actually get in a lot of trouble for just suggesting that to you.

Sorry you're going through this with your work! If this is her attitude towards doctor appointments, I can't imagine how she is just day to day.
  • @bird_lady I've posted about it before, but our union agreement is complicated - basically, I don't have to take time off for doctor's appointments - if we're here at all for a day, we get full credit for the day.  So I don't have to burn leave. That's what she's mad about.  But I do a lot of work "off the books" (after hours and on weekends), so it all adds up.  I know some of her other direct reports are also unhappy with her for various reasons, so it's not just me, but I don't know if she's bugging other people about their hours.

  • @kboydbowman

First, awesome contract if you don't have to burn leave! I wish my work did that but I am able to make up my hours at least and my boss is chill. When I was salary at a different company I could just leave whenever, I do miss those days. lol
Second, she sounds like she sucks! She's new and already people don't like her. Never a good sign for a manager!

Hopefully it all works out! Union should have your back at least if ya gotta file a complaint.
  • @bird_lady Yes, I've already talked with my union rep just in case.  Hopefully she'll lay off though.

  • Appt tomorrow to go over the first US results!!! And probably more labs. Hubbs will attend virtually because he’s not allowed.
  • @kboydbowman That's great news!!
  • It is!  I'll believe it when I talk to my actual doctor, but it's encouraging.

  • @kboydbowman would they let you wait and go into labor naturally or want you to still have baby early but start with induction?
  • Oh hell no I don't want to be induced.  Pitocin is evil.  The whole "elevated risk" thing relates to uterine rupture so anything that deliberately exacerbates natural contractions is not a good thing.

  • @kboydbowman based on some of your earlier comments related to birth I was assuming induction was on your "no way" list. I hope they'll let you wait it out and let baby come when they and your body is ready🤞🏼
  • @kboydbowman Pitocin is indeed the devil. Unfortunately I was induced last time bc of preeclampsia and had the ‘wonderful’ experience.

I’m also attempting VBAC this time and being induced is a no-no. I have to go into labor naturally or it’s off the table. They are however giving me until 41 weeks unless needs dictate otherwise, so that’s a plus.
  • @kboydbowman my normal hospital won't allow for pitocin with a vbac and I was sent to the big one to be induced after I was already in labor because of big baby. I'm wishing I told them no, but I was desperate for the attempt to get my vbac.

This time I'm hoping to get my vba2c without any pitocin.
  • I hope we all can do VBAC!  I'm a super crunchy human and I'd love to be able to enact most of my actual birth plan lol.

  • Labor without pitocin is a game changer ! I had two inductions and one without … one of the biggest differences I noticed (in addition to not having to have an IV or monitors strapped on which was glorious) was there was more true rest time between contractions. Made preparing for the next contraction more manageable.

Wishing you all the vbacs you’re hoping for!
  • Pitocin will be a big no for me this time too, unless absolutely necessary at like 41 weeks. I didn't know any better last time.
