Re: The Great Big Queston Thread!

  • @ashley35209 and @whitta1015 thank you both for the quick answers! I was super relieved, Kaiser called me first thing this morning and they were able to fit me in for an ultrasound. Everything looked good and I'm over my first pregnancy panic - don't get me wrong, I'm sure there will be more to come! ;) I'll keep the 3D/4D place in mind, it sounds like it could be fun to do later on.

  • No, but I like lots of activity - I don't do a lot of real world socializing outside of work, so I enjoy the interaction.  That said, this is why we try to keep primarily to the thread schedule, so that there aren't a lot of random one-off posts.

  • @chelsraec I was overwhelmed when I first joined, but now I’ve figured it out, I’m better with it. Things that helped are that unread threads are white with a yellow highlight indicating how many new comments there are - so you can decide what to read when and not miss anything. I also know which boards don’t have info for me like PGAL. And, I’ve figured out which boards I’m less interested in like the what I’m eating board makes me nauseous sometimes so I avoid it and I don’t feel word associations is relevant to me so I skip it. Makes it feel more manageable.
  • @chelsraec On the desktop version of The Bump, you can click the star icon for a particular thread, and it saves it as a bookmark. Then, when you access the Community, your starred/bookmarked threads will appear in their own section at the top of the screen. It might be helpful for you if you want to keep up with just a few threads and not all of them!
  • I love it, but I grew up on the internet and message boards feel lovely and nostalgic. In case this is helpful for anyone else, I find it easier to navigate from https://forums.thebump.com/categories/september-2022-moms than from the main community page.

I think the contributions are plenty meaningful. Multiple threads gives people a variety of options for participation. What happens if someone doesn't feel they can relate to the one and only thread that's happening at the moment? There is no obligation to participate in all of the threads. Some people relate to some and not to others, and that's OK.

  • I dont read all of the threads every day. Like the one about what people are eating. I avoid that one cuz thinking about food is too gross🤢
  • Thanks everyone for the ideas. If tag you all but it’s too much for me!! I think maybe I should try the desktop version. My phone logged me out for a bit and it wasn’t telling me which threads were new. I also can’t do the eating thread lol
  • I use both the app and the desktop version, and desktop version is SO MUCH BETTER.  When you're on the app, using the refresh can help if everything shows as gray - sometimes it doesn't register updates right away.

  • I also prefer the desktop version and it's why I participate in conversations more during the work week. I check in on convos over the weekend but it's hard to respond sometimes because sausage fingers and distractions. Will try to be better about it, though. Do you all use the beta version of the app or not? I don't notice a difference, they both are hard to use.
  • It's just not a very good app platform.  I'm not sure the version matters.

  • I don't like the app, beta or otherwise. I'm definitely more active here when I'm on my computer!

  • I solely use the desktop version, which is also why I only post during the week, but it's so much easier to navigate and see what's new.
  • So, I know we discussed it, and I tried searching but couldn’t find it, so sorry for the repeat.

Today’s the first day my pre-pregnancy underwire bra has been too uncomfortable and my sports bras are too tight and digging in as well.

What maternity/nursing bras do you recommend? I usually wear a plain underwire tshirt bra. I need to go shopping this weekend or I’ll be braless at work next week lol.
  • Honestly, last time I bought a whole bunch of different ones off Amazon, tried them all on, and then returned the ones I didn't like.

  • @laj0217
I am beyond excited for the maternity clothes thread (I think next week??) specifically for this reason! Will be lurking to see what recommendations come up!
  • @kboydbowman that May be what I do, but hoping some of y’all with experience might have a good brand recommendation or specific bra. Amazon was a little overwhelming on this one.
  • @laj0217 lemme go dig through my order hx and I'll tell you which ones I liked lol

  • @laj0217 I’ve been eyeing the Skims maternity bras because I’ve heard the material is soooo soft from a few friends who have bras and some other items from that line. I just need to get over the cost, I think it’s $48 a bra BUT it does have the ability to snap down for feedings so it will be used for awhile assuming you’re going to try and breastfeed too.

Otherwise I love thirdlove- I have not gotten a maternity bra from them yet, but they are the best regular bras I’ve gotten at an affordable price. Plus the packing is wicked cute and fun to open!
  • What allergy med is recommended during pregnancy? I can't remember what was better for that over breastfeeding. We just got to our ny house and I can't stop sneezing. I should have checked the book before I left knowing this always happens when I get here in winter.

  • @jhysmath My doctor said I can take Benadryl, Claritin, or Zyrtec safely. I actually take Zyrtec every morning.

  • Ok I think I have all three of those. Let's see which isn't expired and I'll start with that lol
  • @trapperkeeper87 this is the probiotic sample the OB gave me.
  • @laj0217 I haven't heard of that. How many days did you take it? Probiotics will usually cause discomfort for a few days as your system adjusts, but then it should be smooth sailing. If you used it more than 3 or 4 days in a row, then I would probably not use it anymore, but otherwise that could be why you were uncomfortable.
    DD 10/2019
  • @trapperkeeper87 I started it Monday, so maybe that was the adjustment period then. I’ll give it a few more days and see how it goes.
  • I have my NT US and blood work this week. I’m looking forward to finding out the gender. How long did it take everyone to get their results back?
  • @mrsjuliesparks it really depends on the lab, the kind of test, your doctor, etc., but most people seem to be saying about a week

  • @mrsjuliesparks they told me it would take two weeks to get our blood work back, but we got our results in just 1 week which was nice. NT scan they gave me my results immediately which was also really nice.

mrsjuliesparks Kaiser just told me to wait 14 business days for NIPT results, including sex. I'm bummed about the long turnaround time, but I'm trying to be patient!

  • Blood work was drawn on a Tuesday and got results back that Friday! Was so happy with the fast turn around and to know baby boy is thriving and healthy!
  • @mrsjuliesparks As Kimberly said, it depends on many different factors. I had the Natera NIPT. I'm located in SC and had my blood draw on a Thursday morning. I believe the lab received my results that Saturday or Sunday in California. There was a holiday in between, but I got my results back the next Friday morning, so a total of 8 days.

@mrsjuliesparks I got my Natera NIPT results this morning. I’m In GA. So, it was 6 business days, 11 days total. They were drawn 2/18, and we had a federal holiday during that stretch. I am still waiting for the carrier screening.
  • @mrsjuliesparks I had my testing through Kaiser in WA and it took 7 calendar days to get the results. They told me to plan for 7-10 days
