  • @nikkimc8 good thinking, MH still plays dumb with DD’s stuff and she’s over 1.5 years old.
  • This makes me want to finish up our nursery!

We have about 70% done - it just needs wall art, shelves and mirror :)
  • @And846 we're in the same boat! ready for those final touches and then it will feel complete.
  • @skc040512, lol. Right there with you. We still have to pull up carpet and put floors in the nursery before we start thinking about decorating or even putting clothes in there. Right now, all the clothes are in the attic. 🤦
  • @nikkimc8 Holy moly so organized!  Are you organized throughout your house like that?  I am so not an organized person so this would last all of 5 minutes in my house.  I'm impressed.

    @skc040512
Don't feel bad for slacking.  We still have months before these babies get here.  Granted this is our 3rd, but I have done absolutely NOTHING to set up any space for baby in our house beyond buying a new car so we can fit all 3 carseats.
  • @brookejay06 wow so much done!!
  • @sph97 I saw that one or a very similar one while on my dresser hunt, I love it with the baskets! The dresser is a great step so you can organize stuff in it now haha. I’m jealous!!! Still waiting on our replacement part since I did this

  • We are also making progress! A mad weekend of cleaning, organizing and laundry. Furniture is all in and I started loading up the change table/dresser with diapers (we use cloth) and clothes. Closet is coming along and baby has a large closet, so we’re able to store 95% of the baby things there that had been scattered in our other girls’ closet, the playroom, the bathroom, the linen closet, etc. Will soon be ready to finalize the decor on the walls and have the room fully finished by end of Feb (my goal) as both girls (and me, but nobody cares about me) have birthdays in March. With covid finally calming down (I think, anyway), their last 2 birthdays being a bust and a world of change about to swoop in, I want to make March all about them!
  • @brookejay06 I live for this type of thing! Nothing feels better than organizing and purging!!!

I am sort of making nursery progress in that I’m finishing my current painting projects to free myself up for the next project of painting the baby’s nightstand and dresser….
I am almost done finishing painting our dining room table and 2 end tables for the living room that I started back in like August/September before getting pregnant haha. Once that’s all done I can get into nursery furniture so it’s all related in a sense.
  • @b_1029 I got line off wayfair! And oh no!! Maybe your replacement part will be in soon, our dresser wasn’t suppose to ship until next week and we luckily got it a week early!
  • @annashaf Nice! I think that is a great goal and it seems lIke birthdays are the perfect motivator. It’s crazy that once you do all the Feb organizing and March birthdays, it will be APRIL and we’ll be in the hole stretch. It will go quickly! I hope
  • Love all the progress you all are making! We got the crib and stroller assembled last weekend, but still lots to do!
  • Ok random question. Anyone have a bassinet they love that retails for under $200 (preferably under $150)? Tbh I’ve always just bought one second hand but I’m having a hard time finding one in decent condition this go around. Bassinet and crib mattress are pretty much the only nursery items we’re buying right now since I’m planning on her being in our room for a minimum of 6 months
  • @tacosandtums what are your steps? What do you to prep and prime and what kind of paint and finish do you use? I’m soon going to paint my first pieces of furniture (this summer, after baby). And I’ve been researching lots. Curious about a real-life experience.
  • @annashaf I’ve been doing it for years because I have received a lot of high quality wood furniture that isn’t necessarily my style or taste but it’s cheaper to paint than buy new!! So I’ve done a lot of different ways- sanding/not sanding, chalk paint + wax, etc. Right now I’m preferring plain old latex paint + sealing with a poly wax. It’s cheaper, less complicated (I don’t mind sanding) and looks smoother IMO. When I was doing chalk paint my style was more farmhouse, now that I’m leaning more traditional/modern I want a sleeker, cleaner finish where I don’t “rough up” the edges by sanding. I think it depends on the look you are going for!! What pieces do you have to work on??
  • @tacosandtums First, a large oak corner shelf I’m cutting down to make into a coffee corner for hubby. My older kids’ dressers. Then our bedroom set. And if I can convince my Mom to let me “modify” it, the baby’s antique dresser. Everything either has a polyurethane or wax coating on it. My plan of attack is:
    Sand
Bonding primer (like Stix, BIN, or something equally aggressive)
Latex semi-gloss paint (like trim paint)
Then either a polyurethane or wax coating on top, depending on the use of the piece (poly for the coffee corner shelf as it’ll get a lot of wear, probably wax for the dressers and bedroom set)
Also planning on painting our hardwood stair risers and skirting in the same method. I do a lot of painting/staining, just haven’t done high use furniture items before.

  • @annashaf I've done a lot of furniture modification. I would suggest Kilz primer. I've always used it and it works well in my experience. Also, go for an enamel on the finish. I usually use Behr Cabinet & Tim Enamel. I painted a dresser we used as an aquarium stand in our old apartment (lots of humidity, highly used drawers) and it's now in our garage as a tool bench (hot and cold environment). The paint has maintained its integrity. I walked out there just now to just check and see if it had started peeling or flaking at all. It hasn't. It has a gauge in the top from something, but the paint didn't chip- it's more of a dent.
  • @taylorharris0522 thanks for the recommendations!!
  • Our nursery progress 🤪 I’m insane. I think I have a top 2 now but a 3rd sneaks in depending on the wall it’s on. DH likes 1 of the 3 I like, so we will probably just end up going with that color at this point. (3rd from the top). It’s slightly green in person which appeals to him, apparently he doesn’t want “boring” grey which is what I was thinking with the built ins 🤷🏼‍♀️

  • @b_1029 and the 3rd one down was the one that stood out most to me!
  • @b_1029 yes 3rd was my favorite and then the 2nd was very close behind it!
  • @b_1029 If you want my input- I love the second one down! Third one comes close second! I think a hint of green would go well with the deep gray of the built in. It’s a very cool gray, so green(ish) won’t clash but it may warm the room up a little.
  • @taylorharris0522 @b_1029 that was my preference too. For similar reasons.
  • @b_1029 the second one down is my favorite!
  • @b_1029 what an awesome room though. I just love all the windows and built-in. Whatever colour you choose, it’ll be stunning.
  • Script or block font? I’ll be adjusting the size of whichever one we decide on. Thanks in advance!

  • @taylorharris0522 I also like the block
  • +1 for block!

  • I’m alone, but I prefer the script @taylorharris0522
  • @taylorharris0522 I like the script, butaybe the block in the script size?
  • @taylorharris0522 is Riley a boy or girl?  I would do script for a girl or block for a boy. Both are super cute though!!
