Private group

Re: Private group

  • Well we don’t have to decide anything yet. I’d personally prefer Facebook since I already use it and it makes connecting with people easier.

  • This is my 4th BMB and in the first one and largest one I’m a part of, 7 years later we still have multiple moms who only have Facebook to interact with our group. With my third BMB, we also had some that created Facebook for that and then because there were less than 20 of us, we have a Facebook Messenger group chat instead of posting very often in the group on Facebook. We have once a week baby picture posts and that’s it. I like Facebook over the bump because it’s less glitchy but I am down to consider other options.
  • I’ve done private groups on Facebook, proboards, WhatsApp, and discord. They all have their pros and cons. Discord is probably my least favorite but it’s also the biggest group and I have trouble keeping up. Proboards works okay but posting photos is a pain (that group has been around for over a decade and was a local Nest/Knot spinoff). WhatsApp is basically just a group chat. Facebook is Facebook.

I’ll do whatever the group wants, I’ve got everything 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • @and_peggy we definitely have some time to research! It would be so nice to just find something straight forward. Which one of us is a software developer…..?  🤔😂
  • I think our group is small enough that we could even do a group chat once the time comes. Thinking maybe what’sapp or I would even do a group chat on messenger.  I always feel like moving to the private group, we somehow lose members.
  • @and_peggy I’m with you, FB works so well for private groups.  My first BMB transferred there (many who didn’t use FB made accounts just for the group) and it runs smoothly.  I find the Bump glitchy and not user friendly.

I know everyone is voicing their preferences, so just wanted to put in my vote FB while we are all chatting about options.
  • I really do love the group chat we went to on Messenger with my Jan 2021 board.
  • I really like Discord.
  • My only request if we do discord is, can we pretty please keep it to a limited number of channels? All the discord groups I’m in have SO MANY channels and it’s super overwhelming to try to keep up with everything and feel involved with the group. I think it would be way better with fewer channels (and fewer people, which this one totally would because the other groups I’m in on there have hundreds or even thousands).
  • @wigglyicecream & @paytonpedro thank you for your candor, friends. I was scared to elaborate, but my feelings/reasons are the same.
  • I would prefer the private group here opposed to Facebook (which I don’t have). Also, I’m a FTM and I’m not super comfortable sharing things this early on.
  • My previous bmb went to FB but I'm fine with whatever.
  • I feel like it’s too soon to consider a private group, we could lose a lot of people (who may not even be with us yet). I really like what we are building here so far :)

I don’t have any input that’s different than before. The bump platform still sucks and I don’t know if I’d participate much if we just stayed here 😆

  • Does anyone use MarcoPolo? I don’t but I’ve heard of it. Is that something that would be realistic for us to move to? Anyone know how it works?
  • I think private tb group would be a good next step. My preference for end result would be fb
  • @paytonpedro. Isn’t that all videos that you send to each other??
  • @mdfarmchick I have no idea 🤣🤣 I think I heard about it from my sister who used it with people all over the world in a chronic wellness group.
  • @paytonpedro while it doesn't sound like Marco Polo would work, I like where you're heading with this. It feels like we need a happy medium that isn't the bump or FB. I'm just not sure what application exists out there that meets our needs. 🤔
  • Proboards has worked well for a decade for another group I’m in that was a spin-off of the Knot/Nest. But I’m good with whatever. We could start with a private board here and then decide another place later. I know a lot of people are hesitant to download or add something they aren’t already using, and I feel you on that!
  • @itsme215 I have also enjoyed my experience with Proboards.

I've never heard of Proboards, so I'm clueless on that, willing to learn. MarcoPolo is just sending videos back and forth, and I've only done it with one other person at a time, not in a group. I'm down for starting a private group here and then seeing what works.

ETA: I've used discord for other communities I'm a part of. It works on mobile and PC. You can set up threads and have more than 1 admin. It's a lot cleaner and less glitchy than TB.
  • To be realistic with myself and you all, I use very few platforms for communication, and likely won’t download more. I usually just text people. I only have Instagram for social media, and only let people I know personally follow me.

The other aspect is that as of this weekend, we’re announcing to my family. At that point I’ll be talking about the baby and pregnancy in my family group chat, and then as of the following week, same will go for my husband’s family group chat. At that point all our best friends and couple friends will be told we’re pregnant, some of which we see/talk to super often. At that point, I know my participation on the bump will slow down. Especially as the first grandbaby and one of the first babies in our friend group.

In addition to suddenly having a lot of people I’m keeping up with IRL, we may buy a house and move, and if we move, I’m going to be gardening. I also have the option do a children’s director internship again this summer. I also am involved in my best friends destination  wedding, and multiple trips between now and then. I’m also going to be planning a baby shower, because I want to host it myself for my friends/family.

All this to say, checking in once a week may even be a challenge during the busiest times. With that said, if there’s a private group on here, I would check in/catch up sometimes. I know you all would like more feedback, and I’m sharing this so you all can choose whatever works best for you, and if I’m at a good place to join, I’d love to have the option.
  • @meagan822 whatever works best for you and your family is best for you girlfriend. You are a valued member of our community, and always have such kind and insightful things to share. So excited for your gender results for you and YH tonight!
  • Just another thought-If there’s enough people who plan to join a private group, maybe two groups is more realistic. Facebook and another app or a private bump chat and something else. However, It may be hard to nail down how many will want to join. It does sound like it’ll be hard to get everyone on one platform.
  • I like the idea of a group chat… my last BMB did do a group but then we launched a chat and we all just check in on the chat as needed/required and I think now you can even link the messenger chat to your IG too. We do bump posts of our babies on Wednesdays and that is the sole thing that happens on the group page. Some people dropped out of the chat and a few never joined but it is a good way to do things and I really liked it. I’m down for private group and then Facebook at some point but I don’t know how I feel about having to download another app. Facebook is very close to me changing myself to a private account that is only to chat with my internet friends some days.
