Re: Weekly Randoms 2/9

  • I need to heat up my lunch and eat it, I packed it Monday night and don't even want to look at it. My only other options are candy and crackers and I'm trying hard to avoid those per the midwife. Also lunch is only 20 minutes and I've spent the last 10 reading this.

  • I just ate some cottage cheese I didn't really want.  I feel ya.

  • This week is moving so slow! I have no idea how I'm going to make it to Monday without losing my mind. Anyone have fun ideas or stories to pass the time quicker??

  • I am currently really into the show Anne with an E. There are not enough episodes though so I am already sad I am half way through! So lame
  • @mamamoomoo12 I loved Anne with an E, but yes it wasn't long enough. I really hope they decide to give us more even though it ends with no loose ends.

@Amphibious22 I gave my students online escape rooms for work today. Here is a link to one to take your mind off things.... Enchambered.com/puzzles/alone-together/

That one is fun to play if you have a split screen computer or someone else that will play with you. The other ones were kind of lame because the students just guessed until they got it right or looked at the answers.
  • @kboydbowman forcing myself to eat the one fajita is proving to be difficult. I've gotten through half of it, but it's making me gag.
  • @jhysmath that's a fun idea!! I've just been playing different variations of wordle. Truly enjoyed quordle.

And @mamamoomoo12 I'll have to look into that. Currently watching sex and the city bc I never watched it when it came out. I'm honestly really enjoying it.

  • Me *cooks salmon, carrots and green beans for DD for dinner*
Also me *eats chocolate cake for dinner*
  • @Amphibious22 haven't heard of quordle but love wordle. My other math colleagues are trying to get me to play nerdle but I just can't get into it.
  • I suddenly don’t like chocolate and my nausea came back worse than ever! 🤢 hoping I don’t puke in front of a classroom full of third graders 🤞🏻
  • @jhysmath it's like wordle on steroids. Basically you're guessing 4 words at the same time and you have 9 guesses to get them all.

  • My 27 month old, well-behaved toddler has disappeared, only to be replaced with a screaming, fighting monster who has a bottomless pit for a stomach (but only for snack foods; everything else is poison). Combined with the no nap (we average about 2 a week) since she was about 17 months, this momma is burned out and cranky.

    I'm fine. Really. I'm okay. 😬

  • @trapperkeeper87 my eat anything kid went to picky and only like snacks, and white food kid around that time. I'm so so sorry. Some things I've read say it's biological because of we were still hunter gatherers they wouldn't go eat poison berries now that they're more mobile.
  • @jhysmath It's so difficult! She will still eat things like raisins, berries, and carrots, but everything else has to be garbage snacks like crackers. I'm desperately trying to keep her from turning picky like her daddy. 😩
    DD 10/2019
  • @trapperkeeper87 we were calling meals "snack" for a while and it weirdly helped. Same exact thing on the plate for dinner, but saying it's not dinner, it's snack. Also including crunchy things with dinner like croutons on a salad help too.

  • @Amphibious22 That actually might work! She knows the names of all the meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), but loves calling every meal dinner. That started a couple months ago. I bet calling it snack would at least intrigue her, if nothing else!

@trapperkeeper87 - My 4 year old went to the doctor yesterday for her well-check and they asked how her eating habits were, so I was honest and said "Not great. she just wants starches or sugar." and her doctor said it was completely normal and that she was perfectly healthy and all her bloodwork looked great. (Although, she does eat some veggies - cucumbers, tomatoes)  She said "if you can get her to eat any vegetable, try to make her like broccoli, even if you have to put sugar on it." haha

Edit to add: I have started making like toddler charcuterie boards for her with string cheese, ham/turkey deli meat, pretzels, fruits, etc... and she loves that.

  • @whitta1015 omg, I love the toddler charcuterie board idea! So cute
  • @trapperkeeper87 As others are saying, I think picky toddlers are perfectly normal. My son wasn't too picky when he was young (probably before two?) but he's almost three now and food can be a struggle. He also prefers snacks and I try to make sure that we at least have snacks that aren't SUPER junky. He's refusing to eat most protein right now which is super annoying. He used to eat pretty much everything.. chicken, salmon, tuna sandwiches, tofu, beans, scrambled eggs, etc. but he rejects almost all of it now. Luckily, he still loves nuts and quinoa and I find ways to sneak things into his food, but it's hard and I feel bad about it a lot!
  • @scimomma Mine used to be the same way, she would eat anything. She has been on an egg kick lately for some reason and asks me to scramble her an egg at least 2-3 nights a week. I figure it's protein, right?! I have been making her more of an omelet, though, and adding some shredded cheese, and ham in there so she gets a little bit more than just an egg.
  • I knew it was gonna happen sometime, I just wish it hadn't been right now. 😄 She used to love all the things, but now it gets a bit tougher every day. She does still like fish sticks and black beans and almost any fruit, so there's that. She doesn't know it, but she's also going to try cucumber (again) today. Well, Mommy is going to have some and she'll inevitably ask for a piece. Sneaky sneaky. 😉

  • @trapperkeeper87 I second the "snack tray"  Mine also like to eat "picnics" by setting out a blanket on the floor and eating there. These tips work well with the new to being picky 3 year old. The always picky 1 year old is awful. Last night she ate french fries and that was it. Also it was like 5 total. Her doctor isn't concerned because she maintains her 99th percentile curve and doesn't look "starved."  On the flip side of that she ate two helping of cereal and a banana for breakfast. Normally she will eat 2-3 eggs, apple sauce, and yogurt for breakfast.
  • @jhysmath You're seriously making me feel so much better. She's been into picnics and snack plates for a while (string cheese, raisins, crackers), but I'm getting so many ideas on other things to try.
    DD 10/2019
  • Update: I pulled the cucumber from the fridge and asked if she knew what it was (I've never shown or given her one). "COOCUMBER!" She said she saw it on Daniel Tiger, but I don't know. Either way, this girl is loving them! Woo!

  • @trapperkeeper87 quesadillas are normally a good go to, and I used to be able to sneak stuff into them just fine by letting her help make them. But I put fajita pepper, onions, and chicken in them without asking and she got angry and then opened each of them and decided if there were onions or peppers in them she was throwing them away because they were disgusting. So I think my run with quesadillas might be ending soon.
  • @jhysmath I don't want to laugh, but that's actually really funny that she did that. I'm sorry that you lost your trick, though. I hate when certain tricks stop working!

  • Guys. I know it's still so early on, but look at this! If you have a buybuyBaby near you, this is an incredible deal! I'm not sure on specifics, so I'm sure it excludes all the standard excluded brands. Still!

    DD 10/2019
  • @trapperkeeper87 if you get coupons for bed bath and beyond (they're 20% off ones) you can use them at buy buy baby too.

@jhysmath I do get them, but I was thinking that if anyone needed to do a haul of stuff, this would be a good time. I'm not sure what - if anything - that I need, but I'm for sure going to be checking out what qualifies. I'm a bit of a deal junkie. 🙊 I still don't think I'll beat my brand new Chicco KeyFit 30 I got for $28.xx from Target a few years ago, though.

  • @trapperkeeper87 oh I'm a deal junkie too. Never got a great deal like that on a carseat though. I did get my britax b safe with stroller for less than just the carseat would be, and that felt good.
  • Incentive for ya'll to get your taxes done, if you haven't already...

Submitted my taxes (TurboTax) on 1/31
State refund hit my account on 2/7
Federal refund hit my account on 2/9

    Woot.

  • Ours was really quick like that too @kboydbowman. I think it was barely a week turnover. I think we submitted on the same day, but we got our federal (no state tax in my state) back on Tuesday the 8th.
  • I won’t even have all my financial documents until next week. Drives me batty every year that we have to wait! Excited to hear the process is going smoothly, though!
  • We OWE this year, for the first time ever, so I have no motivation to file. I’m quite annoyed about it, actually. DH started a new job last year and I guess they somehow didn’t withhold enough from his paycheck, even with him claiming 0. I don’t understand!
  • @mk2022x My husband actually has to ask for more to be withheld. Or, well, before we had our daughter. Before that we would always owe. I don't quite understand it (I'm a finance person, not an accounting person), but he does, so that's good enough for me.
    DD 10/2019
  • @trapperkeeper87 I’m also all about the deals!!! Love me a good deal!
  • @jhysmath the lack of income tax is one of the few things I miss about living in Texas.

  • That’s awesome and cool to see! You can add me for GA. I’d also argue SC is the Deep South (and Texas is its own entity lol).

I love data but definitely don’t have the energy for your impressive calculations right now. So impressed!
