The Great Big Queston Thread!

Re: The Great Big Queston Thread!

  • We do the NIPT next week and are finding out gender. I have no idea how to tell people. I am really not into gender reveal parties.
  • Loading the player...
  • @wjinmass I went in at 6 weeks based on LMP, and baby measured a week smaller. They could only see the fetal pole. The doctor was totally unconcerned, said it was too early, and to come back in a week. A week later the baby was still measuring a week behind based on LMP, but we were able to hear and see the heartbeat. They just pushed the due date back a week based on the two measurements.
  • @mamamoomoo12 so don't?  Just because you know the gender doesn't mean you have to share it.  Gender reveal parties are gross and result in babies getting excessively gendered way too early.  It's a baby - they all look and act the same until they're older anyway.
    Current pregnancy -
First BFP on 1/4/22.  Due date 9/13/22.

Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.

@mamamoomoo12 Like @kboydbowmansaid, you don't have to even tell anyone if you don't want to. Or if they ask and you want them to know, tell them at that point. A lot of these big shows are so overdone by social media, so never feel like you need anything flashy just because someone else did. It's a modern day "keeping up with the Joneses" and totally not necessary.

I am from Canada, and my first time actually seeing my doctor will be at 12 weeks. This is my first pregnancy and I am feeling a lot of anxiety, already wondering if everything is going ok, etc.

I was pretty shocked when I went to the clinic once I knew I was pregnant and all they did was get me to do a pregnancy test and told me to come back at my 12 week appointment. I thought there would be a bit more followup. And then I thought wow....this is going to be a long 7 weeks! But this is my first time so everything is new.

Just looking for some tips on how to reduce anxiety and what to do in the waiting. Thanks so much ❤️
Hi, where in Canada are you? I’m in BC. As far as I know the 12 week scan is typically the first scan unless you are considered high risk. I just had my first scan at 9 weeks, they wanted it at 7 or 8 weeks but I got covid so couldn’t go in. But that’s only because I’m over 35, have high blood pressure, have two uteruses, and have already had 3 miscarriages, so apparently they really wanna keep an eye on my baby.
So just know that although the waiting sucks (I absolutely hated having to wait til even 9 weeks) at least it’s because your pregnancy is currently considered healthy and low risk (hope it stays that way for you). I also find it hard to focus on much else, and fully understand the anxiety. As someone else mentioned you could try meditation, I do it just before bed and it helps me sleep so I’m not kept up by thoughts of things that could go wrong. I also talk with my sister about it since she’s has 3 kids and has had 4 very difficult pregnancies. Also reading helps me, sometimes baby books to keep me educated and also just good fiction books that take my mind off of everything.
Hope it all works out for you!

    First Trimester Pregnancy Symptoms

My pregnancy symptoms are so inconsistent. Is this normal? For example, yesterday I was extremely nauseous and exhausted. Today, I was starving and full of energy (minus a 20 minute nap). Not that I like having morning sickness, but it makes me nervous when I don’t get it. The only consistent symptom I have is breast tenderness.

    Is this normal???

(Sorry about the knottie…I’m trying to change it 😬)
  • Totally normal :)

I use the browser. The app was all kinds of glitchy for my last pregnancy, so I gave up on it.

  • @trapperkeeper87 I think there may have been some good upgrades to the app bc I hated using it for my last pregnancy too, but it's been way better this time.

  • @trapperkeeper87 I couldn't use it last pregnancy either, (may 2020) and it's been working fine for me. I'll knock on wood right now.
  • @Amphibious22 + @jhysmath Maybe I'll give it another go. It would be easier to just have an app to jump to instead of the browser.

  • I’ll be doing my first home birth this go around and wondering from others your favorite books to help prepare mentally for an unmedicated birth.
  • @costaricamom Ida May's guide to natural child birth has some good tips and stories in it.
  • @blanket_girl I'm in Norway and the only ultrasound I will have is the anatomy scan at 20 weeks unless they see something concerning for which they'd do more as necessary.
@kenzi49 I don't see my midwife until 12 weeks either. And then it's just a visit and she'll try to find a heartbeat with a doppler. At the 20 week anatomy scan is when they check to be sure baby is growing and is the size of a 20 week fetus.
@kboydbowman with my first pregnancy I kept feeling like the midwives here didn't care because of their lack of involvement. I am glad for it though now and if we ever move back to the US I'd definitely use a midwife if possible.
  • @costaricamom have you looked into hynobirthing at all? I'm giving it a go this time after I lost all control and turned to panic during my last labor. They finally flew me 25 mins to a bigger hospital so I could get an epidural. My sister has had to successful home births and says that hypnobabies was a HUGE help for her. And yes to Ina May!
  • @babywiik yes! I’ve been checking out some different programs, free and paid, to try and find one that resonates with me. It’s definitely a technique I’m interested in.
  • @costaricamom I had an unmedicated (hospital) birth with my first, and that is my plan this time around, too. I watched some YouTube videos on hypnobirthing and listened to some podcasts. I never signed up for a class and did just fine. 😄

  • @mamamoomoo12 i brought my stepson to my anatomy scan last time and left him hold onto the baby’s sex for a week. We had just our close friends over and had him drop a pumpkin off a roof that was filled with paper indicated the sex. It was a lot of fun. I’m not big on social media or large gatherings, but it was fun. I don’t think it put too big of gender expectations on our LO. But for him, it was exciting to know if he was going to have a little sister or little brother. It was exciting for all of us but not too overwhelming. It could be fun just to do a little something you and your partner if you want a surprise:))

  • Anyone else feeing disgusted with dental hygiene? My brushing has been off because instant nausea trigger. I’ve been using very plain fresh mint toothpaste since last pregnancy, but oh gosh… it’s terrible. I can tell my teeth are getting bad right now. I keep needing to eat crackers in the middle of the night. Anyone else considering getting an extra dental cleaning?  Lololol
  • Soooo. I've THANKFULLY not had morning sickness! PTL!

But, I do experience nausea in the mornings + when I'm hungry. Not too bad.

But the STRANGEST thing is - brushing my teeth makes me throw up!

At first, I noticed I'd get super nauseous when brushing my teeth, so I started brushing my teeth after I ate. That seemed to help at first, but now I throw up when brushing my teeth.

Does this happen to anyone else? Or am I just weird? I've always had a bad gag reflex, but it's definitely gotten so much worse since pregnancy. I just want to know how to brush my teeth without dreading it. 😅
  • @Blaketobe2017 is it the flavor of the toothpaste or the act of brushing itself?  If it's the flavor, obviously maybe change flavors.  If it's the act of brushing, maybe do a more cursory brushing and use mouthwash and floss more to supplement until your "morning sickness" goes away (what you're experiencing *probably* would last much past the first trimester).

  • @Blaketobe2017 with my first, every morning until like 11 weeks, I’d puke during teeth brushing. Switching toothpaste helped but brushing time was puking time
  • @Blaketobe2017 this happened with my first from about 8-11 weeks. Every single morning mid-brush I would throw up. Then I would go back and brush again. I would feel nauseous throughout the day but that was the only thing that actually made me puke.
  • I am just SO tired. 12 weeks and just have been beyond beyond exhausted and I’m *not* someone who struggles with energy! I don’t even drink caffeine normally because I’m so ready to go and such a morning person. Honestly it’s felt like a total shock and I’m trying to get through it. Will take all suggestions and support.
  • Totally throw up every time I brush. Have to floss and use mouthwash mostly and hope that it will pass soon!!
  • Hi @jrp3.  I think you may be in the wrong board, as it appears you are likely due in August.  This is the September board.  If this is indeed the right board for you, please stop by the Introductions thread and introduce yourself.

  • Aside from my prenatal are there any other supplements I should be taking? I was taking fish oil but my nausea has not let me near it in a week 🤢
  • @mamamoomoo12 I take a calcium/magnesium supplement because I know I don't get enough of either from foods naturally. Baby will take what it needs and I don't want to be left with nothing🙈

@mamamoomoo12 I also take a probiotic and like to think it helps me in other ways, such as with nausea, bloating, etc. Here is the one I'm taking this time and during my pregnancy with my daughter.

  • Looking for some reassurance for starting to feel normal again (no nausea, less tired) at 10w+3d. With my first I felt good the entire time so this sudden stop in symptoms is freaking me out after having 2 miscarriages last year, one being discovered at pretty much exactly this time. Is anyone else in this boat??
  • @mackenziegr I'm 10+3 today too. I've had a stomach bug, and haven't eaten in 24 hours. Normally if i go a few hours without eating I get nauseous, but right now I am not and I'm pretty hungry but afraid to eat. Super dehydrated, but definitely don't feel pregnant. I just bought a second doppler that will be here in 2 days instead of another 1.5 weeks because I'm getting so nervous with not seeing the mw for another almost 3 weeks and the fact we're supposed to tell MIL before that is super making me nervous.

MIL makes everything about her, so if we tell her, and it is a loss, I won't hear the end of "how sad she is" and I will then also become the gossip she tells everyone. Oh and I will likely be the gossip so she can get sympathy from other people. I just don't have the emotional energy to deal with that.

I'm really hoping my doppler comes in and I'm able to locate a hb.
  • @mackenziegr it’s common for women’s symptoms to lessen around 10 weeks when the placenta takes over. I’m sure it’s stressful when you’ve experience a loss before and hopefully it’s just standard progression of growth and development!
  • @mokay19 needed to hear that! Just hitting the 10 week mark, and I’ve had 3 good days in a row. Has me anxious for my appt on Friday. Never thought I’d wish I felt nauseous lol.
  • @mokay19 yes I needed to hear as well! Thank you!!

@laj0217 I also have my next appointment on Friday. I’ll be thinking about you!
  • I'm 10 weeks today and I have my first ultrasound tomorrow. I haven't had many symptoms (breast tenderness/nipple soreness, occasional nausea and tiredness) but they've really faded over the past week.  I sent myself down a rabbit hole the other day because I'm prescribed 20mg Adderall XR (in morning) and 10mg Adderall XR (in afternoon) - I stopped taking my medication when I first found out and my primary suggested I see a MFM specialist.  That has been a nightmare trying to schedule (I'm all set with an appointment now).  I was not able to function on zero, started taking 10mg in the morning and then finally felt like myself at 20mg in the morning.  I haven't been taking my afternoon dose.  The rabbit hole scared the hell out of me because all I read about were women saying how they stopped their ADHD medication immediately and didn't turn back even if they were struggling.  I couldn't do it.  So, I stopped my medication again on Friday and have just been struggling again til I can get confirmation on what I should do at my appointment tomorrow.  Needless to say, with the combination of the lessening of symptoms this week and the rabbit hole I went down, I've convinced myself (TW) that there won't be a heartbeat tomorrow. I'm terrified but trying to stay positive and not think irrationally.

  • I hit 10 weeks on Monday and have been feeling better also. I still feel sick if I go too long without eating but now I feel hunger first rather than nausea first. Glad to read that others are experiencing the same. After a few of the others have had losses later on I was starting to get a bit freaked out. 2 more weeks until my appt with the midwife

This definitely makes me feel better. I’m so anxious for my first ultrasound this afternoon.
