I feel like this is a recurring topic in the Win/Wine/Whine thread today so I'm curious, has anyone read Marie Kondo's book or has tried the KonMari method for cleaning? I'm a packrat, I know I am and I won't even try to deny it so I started her book and honestly I see the appeal but it's stressing me out more lol. I took personal offense when she said that storage solutions are a fallacy meant to trick you into believing you're organized by creatively hiding your stuff.

@kiki047 I read her book with my book club a number of years ago. I actually really like her method for folding clothes and displaying them vertically in a drawer (she probably calls it something else, but that's how I think of it). I think she has some good ideas, but there is plenty I disagree with her on. For example, limiting your bookshelf to an arbitrary number of books she suggests is bonkers. I re-read books all the time and vehemently disagree with her on that one.

@abjm0325 omg I haven't gotten to that part yet but I'm already annoyed. No no no, I also keep and re-read my books and have them stashed all over the house. I also like loaning them out to people. In fact, I'm re-reading one of my favourite young adult fiction series from high school for the 10th time and it's still so good.

@shortstack930 it's a fantasy series by Tamora Pierce, and in fact I loved/own all of her books so I started with the Song of the Lioness series this time and will transition into the Immortals series when I'm done. If I had to pinpoint where my love of reading started, it would have been with Wild Magic, published in '92 (but I didn't get into it until a few years later). My Mom bought me the book at Walmart because it had a pony on the cover, lol, and I had just started taking riding lessons that summer.
I often credit Harry Potter as being the series that got me hooked on reading but I think it was just the first one that had a lot of hype over new publications coming out, I had already blown through lots of YA fiction before HP came along.

@acleverusername Yes, I am all for getting rid of stuff that "weighs you down" so to speak, but never for going to the extent that getting rid of something makes you anxious or sad.

@shortstack930 and @kiki047 As a librarian, I always find the genres that are tied to age groups, like Young Adult, mildly problematic as it implies only people of a certain age can or should read the books. I love young adult fiction too! The book Talking to Dragons by Patricia Wrede started my love for young adult fantasy.

@abjm0325 I actually was thinking about going back to school to be a librarian before I ended up deciding to become a nurse! YA fantasy is my favorite to read. My all time favorite author is Sarah J. Maas.

@abjm0325 YES! Talking to Dragons was key for me when I was growing up! I also loved Tamora Pierce when I was younger as well, and should re-read those as @kiki047 is!

I'm an Archivist and I listen to a TON of YA fantasy stuff as audiobooks when I'm commuting or driving. Just way easier to get into and forget about life/road rage for a while!

Also, confused about Marie Kondo (haven't watched/read any of her stuff). So... I'm ONLY supposed to keep a certain number of books? But like, if my husband is currently building me library shelves, and being surrounded by books makes me happy and 'sparks joy' what do I do? LOL.

@stormageddon-darklordofall Yes! I need to get back into audiobooks for the commute. Sounds like a great way to re-visit some of the young adult fantasy series I love. As far as Marie Kondo, to be fair it has been a number of years since I read the book so my memory of it is imperfect. But I seem to remember her picking an actual number and suggesting people don't need more books than that and I was appalled and definitely judged her in the moment. I think she prioritizes de-cluttering over the joy element. I do believe in passing along books you don't intend to read ever again to let someone else enjoy them, but if you love a book I think you should keep it!

Why does it keep doing crazy spacing on my posts?? Argh!

@abjm0325 crazy spacing = TB. IT's one of those things you need to learn to live with.

Changing subject: for anyone taking L-Arginine (@kiki047 ? @keikilove ?)... it's meant to be taken outside of food. So, when do you take it? And how long before / after food? This is the only supplement I'm currently taking that confuses the sh*t out of me. Also, it's the only pill that literally makes me gag/choke. And it's not even the biggest one in my pill box. Any tips would be helpful.

@shortstack930 you'll have to let me know what you think if you do end up picking up any of her books. I recommend starting with the Song of the Lioness quartet, but I do think there is a recommended reading order somewhere on the interwebz. They're nice short, easy reads.
@abjm0325 thanks for the recommendation, I've heard of the series but for whatever reason never picked it up. I just grabbed the boxed set on Amazon on sale because I had to replenish some supplements so I'm excited to get into it!
@stormageddon-darklordofall I love listening to podcasts while I'm driving so I don't know why I never got into audiobooks. Will have to look into it. Do you have an Audible subscription or something like that?
@acleverusername I took it first thing in the morning when I woke up, and tried to find pills with the highest dosage because I needed to take 6g/day which was insane. They were by far the biggest pill I had to take (size-wise), and I had to do 6 at a time because 1,000mg was the highest dosage I could find at the time. My naturopath recommended taking it in powder form, to be dissolved in water or other liquid. I did buy some but haven't actually tried it yet this cycle because if you saw my protocol it's pretty intense, and my lining is already more than sufficient at CD8. Maybe you could try that? I take Ovasitol in powdered form too and it's quite pleasant.

@kiki047 Yes! I do audible, and then I also download/stream audiobooks from my local library as well. (to be fair, pre-pandemic I had an hour+ commute 3 days a week... with hectic DC area traffic that makes me wanna murder everyone with my anger/anxiety issues. So audiobooks were definitely the way for me to go to help me calm down and stay relaxed)

@inthewoods23 Erm... Thanks? for sharing? Honestly, that was horrid. I am livid at the fact that the thrower thinks she deserves an apology. I'm sure there was a really messed up game of "broken telephone" that led to all of this. Alas, that's what you sometimes get in a firm full of women (at least that's what I picked up on from the story). I once worked in a firm that was _mostly_ female and hated it; I love being in tech where I am one of few females and don't have to deal with female drama. This is probably an UO. And... looky look! It's Thursday! Right on time!

@kiki047 so you'd take all 6 pills at once? I could do that. I've been splitting up into 3 doses and it's awfully hard to remember to take it _before_ food 3x a day.

On the YA fantasy front, if you like YA fantasy/magic, I can't recommend the Mageborn books by Michael Manning highly enough, they're my all time favorite series. There's 3 or 4 series following the same characters over a dozen or so books. I love them. The first book is The Blacksmiths Son.

@inthewoods23 all I have to say to that is WTAF?! I'm with optimist, someone would have to bail me out of jail if someone threw a literal pee stick in my face at work of all places. And I'm petty, so I'd for sure be leaving anonymous wads of TP on that chick's desk with misc. fluids on it.
@acleverusername yes, I took them all at once. My stomach was never empty enough other times of the day to try to time that properly, lol. I was told by multiple people to just take it all at once if I could.

@acleverusername I was scared to swallow pills as a tween, convinced I'd choke on them. I now routinely take 6 at once each in the am and pm, sometimes 10 a night if i forgot in the morning (i skip a couple that would be doubled if i forget the morning dose).

Ladies, please be careful not to choke.

I also used to swallow as many of these vitamins as I could at a time to get it over and done with (how else is one supposed to take 28 pills a day for months on end?!) Welp, the inevitable happened and some of my pills stuck together and got caught in my throat and began choking me. I could only barely whisper to my husband that I was choking. The more I tried to get a breath, the deeper they lodged in my throat. He had to give me the Heimlich several times. It wasn’t working so I started throwing myself into the sharp edge of the corner of the counter. That didn’t work so he finally did the Heimlich hard enough and the chunk of pills came flying out into the kitchen sink. Needless to say, I’ve never swallowed more than 2 big pills at a time since that incident.

I mentioned this embarrassing story to my friend who goes to the same RI and the same RE: she said this choking-on-the-vitamins incident had also happened to her once and now she takes them 1 or 2 at a a time. Please be careful!
