January- What my pregnant self is eating…

Re: January- What my pregnant self is eating…

  • @mehugg she avoided deli Turkey (what I just ate for lunch) and not many other deli meats. Listeria is a hard outbreak to predict and the food vary from sprouts, to mushrooms, to ice cream.

  • @mehugg in previous pregnancies, my doctor said more of a reason not to eat lunch meat was the nitrates. They just don’t know how they affect the baby. But everything in moderation. As long as it comes from a clean and reputable deli, or is prepackaged, you’re good!

@bobloblaw87 Oh goodness, I LOVE subway. I’m normally a “make it from scratch” type, but I want subway quite often! I even had it for my birthday lunch last year!😂 Something about oil and vinegar on a Chicken Bacon (no ranch) melt toasted and loaded up with the vegetables is heavenly! I can’t wait to get past the nausea and not wanting anything. I want to crave subway instead!🤣

@mehugg If you heat the deli meat most doctors say it’s okay. Perhaps an oven toasted deli meat and cheese sandwich with a pickle would be satisfying of that craving!😊
  • I just went to Wawa and had a Mac n cheese bowl with BBQ brisket on top. It was heavenly while I ate it. Now I just feel gross.
  • So I was telling MH about my not currently trusting beef and how I wasn’t sure we were gonna have tacos, and he suggested I use some premade BBQ pulled chicken that I somehow managed to end up with in my pickup order instead of pulled pork, and make it taco-ey. So I heated it up with a can of the Mexican style Rotel tomatoes and stuck it in a tortilla. Y’all. I ate four. They were little, because I love those tiny street-taco size tortillas, but still. I don’t think I’ve eaten that much meat in like two or three weeks.

I dunno what we’re having for dinner on Friday now though. I’ve been trying to get back in the habit of meal planning and now just feels like so not the time 😂😂😂

  • @mangoandguava Meal planning feels impossible right now! What I’m craving right now is not what I’ll want in a few days. My poor husband was suggesting a bunch of ideas for upcoming dinners and for each one all I could say was, “hmm, maybe?”
  • @mangoandguava @jenkm1110 The struggle is real with meal planning. I need to shop for the week tomorrow and I have no idea what to plan. I’ve gone fully vegetarian and my nausea is the worst it’s been so far. Nothing sounds good. At all.
  • I've been no help with meal planning this week. I've just said, yes make whatever and I'll figure out what I want in the moment.

  • I've just totally counted myself out of dinners. My husband has been making a steady stream of grilled meat, mac and cheese, and frozen vegetables for him and the kids, and everybody's fine with that. Last night the chicken wasn't thaw yet, so he made them scrambled eggs, but that means tonight *I* am going to have to make the chicken since he has to stay for a meeting after work today and then we have to eat dinner early so he and our son can get to a Cub Scout meeting. :# We'll see how that goes. I don't have to eat the chicken...
  • This morning I used half chocolate milk and half white milk in my smoothie. 10/10 highly recommended. Basically had a milkshake for breakfast.

My husband randomly picked up this butter chicken soup the other day and I had that for dinner last night and it was super good too.

Tonight he’s supposed to make pork chops. A little nervous about that one. I haven’t had meat aversions or anything, it just doesn’t really sound that good but maybe by dinner it will. I just feel bad when he cooks a whole meal for the two of us and then I eat like 3 bites. Luckily the man loves leftovers.
  • Right @maggiemadeit ! My husband is wonderful and does a lot but cooking dinner is NOT one of them! He did have some leftovers warming up when I come home from work the other day and I was amazed.
  • Mine kind of likes cooking. When he lived by himself in grad school he used to watch Ina Garten and learned how to make all kinds of recipes. He's just out of practice because since he has a full-time job and I have a part-time one that ends when I pick up the kids from school, I've just done 90% of the cooking for probably the last 4-5 years. (And when I was pregnant with #2 and hated food for a month, that was also the month we lived with my parents after we moved and were waiting for our new house to be ready, so my mom cooked that whole time.)
  • Oh man, I am completely worthless in the kitchen. My husband does all the cooking. He’s also way better at cleaning than I am. He’s not working because he’s about to start our kitchen and flooring remodel, so he has a lot more time and energy for all that right now than I do. Once the kitchen gets torn up though, I’m sure we’ll be doing way too much take-out for awhile.
  • I changed my breakfast from cereal and milk to avocado toast, and my lunches from tuna/chicken packets on wraps and yogurt to chicken salads for during the week, and have been loving it! I feel like I could eat those same two meals every day from now til I give birth. I had no desire to eat cheese over the holidays. It doesn't gross me out or make me sick, I just haven't wanted it. I even skipped my mom's famous cheese spread on Christmas Eve, which makes me sad.
  • My husband was a chef for like 12 years, so he is a FABULOUS cook but he also does not cook often under normal circumstances because he has zero chill about stuff. He uses $20 of fresh veg to make stir fry. They make stir fry freezer packs, dude, they cost like $2, why are we in the fresh section?! We're gonna have to teach him how to grocery shop at some point in the next few months.

  • My husband got ice cream and Oreo cookies for me… my lunch today was a milkshake. Managed to correct for dinner with a Buffalo chicken stuffed sweet potato.

  • I just watched the episode of Peppa Pig where they make ice cream in a bag in 5 minutes. Anyone know if that really works?

I’m lucky to have such a helpful husband. Normally he doesn’t plan meals, groceries, or cook, but he has been making me a batch of mashed potatoes (one of the only things that is yummy to me,) every few days, and he’ll prepare other things if I can eat them.

I’m in the same boat with meal planning. It’s impossible right now. I’m just getting things he can make himself easily after a long day (i.e. Chicken strips, frozen fish, tater tots/fries, taquitos, Mac & cheese, etc..) and then I’m only really getting fruits, vegetables and crackers and such for myself and for him to get produce. I’m not doing cooking. Just making sure we can both eat. Lol

Side note: I order groceries for pickup and hubby gets them after work.
  • @meagan-firsttimemommy8-22 I also have been eating a lot of mashed potatoes!

lately I’ve been craving a nice corn chowder which is just about the most random thing…

tonight I ate Nutella with animal crackers and boy did it hit the spot!
  • @wisewitch222 that is totally a thing!! I don’t know exactly how to do it, or how well it turns out, but my ds did it at the community center this summer and told me allllll about it. Lol.
  • All the talk about subs makes me feel not quite so guilty about eating one a week right now 😂 I can't get enough of them! I did read Emily Oster's book and have ended up choosing to keep subs and sushi in my life. I think it's gonna keep mama happy!

Right now, I'm guzzling Hint waters and eating a lot of yogurt. I only want meat if it's spicy. Thinking a deep dish pizza might hit the spot for dinner tonight 😋
  • @buffythevampireslayer corn chowder sounds so good! My mom makes a really good one. I might have to call her for the recipe.
  • @wigglyicecream my coffee aversion also subsided! It was amazing being able to enjoy coffee again.

@wisewitch222 I'm not sure if this counts, but you can make frozen "ice cream" out of fruit in a food processor. We've blended up frozen bananas and it has ice cream like texture in under 5 mins... but it isn't real ice cream.
  • @darkrose88 I made the frozen fruit pretend ice cream one day when I was pregnant with #1 and we didn't have any ice cream but it was winter and nighttime and I was firmly committed to never sending my husband out for inconvenient pregnant purchases, and it was really good! It helped that we had chocolate syrup and whipped cream to go on top. Mmmmm.
  • @darkrose88 At our house we call it “nice cream” and that is essentially what I’ve eaten for breakfast the past 2 days 😂
  • Super jealous of you ladies who lost your coffee aversion. Currently dry heaving thinking about coffee while simultaneously wishing I could enjoy a cup of coffee 😢
  • @paytonpedro still have a coffee aversion, too! Super sad.

I think cravings started. Vinegar. Just ate a ton of salt and vinegar chips (which I normally hate) and had mustard on my hotdog for lunch (which I normally hate). The vinegary taste just hit the right way.
  • @starkette. Mh is making my children hotdogs for dinner and asked if I wanted one. My initial reaction was absolutely not! But mustard on it sounds good so I changed my mind quickly haha. I hate ketchup but have been wanting tater tots with ketchup. So weird how you crave things you don’t even like!!
  • @starkette vinegar is one of my STRONGEST cravings. One night I ate cheddar cheese, garlic triskets and cucumbers in balsamic vinegar dressing. 10/10 recommend!  Also now I was S&V chips
  • Omg kraft gluten free macaroni and cheese is giving me life right now. I hate kraft Mac n cheese, too! Lol
  • @bridgiebee82 I just bought some at the grocery store today for my little dude who can finally eat dairy! I had no idea they made a GF version. We’re going to share it for lunch tomorrow, I’m pretty stoked.
  • I want steak fries and it's 11:30pm. Oh well. I'll get some tomorrow. :D I always get so hungry at 11:30 every night. Lately I've done greek yogurt and whatever fruit we have, but tonight I want salty french fries.
  • All the talk about coffee aversions and I’m on the same page! Smells horrible to me (I don’t drink it anyway,) but my husband made some a week or so ago and I had to wait in our room for him to clear out the smell. Since then we’re just saying we’re out of coffee to anyone who comes over that we sometimes make it for. 😂🙊
  • I just want all the mango!!
  • Raisin Bran cereal 😂
  • @anniemarie887 I’m with you on the cereal but it’s plain Cheerios for me. With ice cold milk.
  • @anniemarie887 currently eating honey bunches of oats. Lol
