My random is actually me being thankful we are all on the Internet and pregnant and not in person and drinking to this never have I ever. I would be DRUNK. Lol
also if I remember correctly @leahrnmom did you say your last bmb was Jan 19?
@wigglyicecream I was on Jan 19. I didn't participate as much as I did with Jan 17, and what I'm trying to now. Tw bleeding*******
I had bleeding with my j 19 little guy and I feel like I put up a wall and wouldn't let myself get too attached. Things worked out and I have the best little guy but I didn't participate as much.
Snow day! We got a call last night from the school district that they anticipated bad weather and were closing the schools for today. I’m not mad about it because I don’t have to leave my bed for like another 20 minutes now, but man have the times changed!!! Definitely for the better, these kids (and parents 😁) have it easy! I remember walking to my bus stop in a foot of snow, my jeans getting soaked, only for the bus driver to tell me that they closed the schools last minute!
So far we only have like 4 inches but I’m totally fine with a snow day! ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️
My random today - DS just turned 4 and we are throwing a very small (6 people total) birthday party tomorrow. DS's favorite color is pink. Everything must be pink. We are of the opinion that if it makes him happy then we are happy so all of the decorations and the cake were going to be (you guessed it) pink. Well, today DS informs me he wants a rainbow cake for his birthday (he is also unusually obsessed with rainbows). DH and I are like, where the heck are we going to find a rainbow cake for him last minute? Luckily a place down the road sells rainbow cakes by the slice so I guess we will do one of those and get the rest of the party goers cupcakes. I'm definitely doing a bit of 🙄 and 😂 IRL right now. Kids!
Edit to clarify - I was planning to make a pink cake this evening so this last minute change of plans isn't that big of a deal since we didn't pre-order it.
Probably silly but I just cleaned my shower with a hardcore bleach. I covered my face but it smelled horrible. I have the fans on and everything but now obviously I’m like, “why did I do that?” So do I need to freak out or just move on? I know chemicals are best to avoid right now but I wasn’t thinking.
@and_peggy I don’t know if it’s right but my vote is to move on. There’s nothing you can do about it now. If you meet with your doctor in the near future I would mention it, and I wouldn’t do it again lol, but I also wouldn’t dwell on it. I definitely ate Cesar dressing on a salad and only thought about it after when there was nothing I could do to change it. It happens.
@and_peggy I vote move on too. I think you did the right thing by covering your face and putting fans on. I would mention it the dr if you see them soon but I did the same thing, cleaned the toilet and thought I was poisoning myself.
@paytonpedro we can’t have Cesar dressing? OOOPS. Just had one of those the other day. 😬
@leahrnmom I can understand your hesitation after having the bleeding. It’s so scary even if bleeding can be ‘normal’ for so many.
I hope you can find a home in this board Yay to DD’s reactions! Kids’ emotions are the best!
@darkrose88 hey, let him love all the pink he wants! Colors don’t change anything about a person. I guess since it’s his birthday he’ll take advantage of calling all the (late) shots haha
@and_peggy same with the other girls. Unless you feel very stressed to call tonight, then I’d say just let it pass and know not to do it again! I’m sure long and continuous exposure is really what will harm you/the baby.
@wigglyicecream I believe some Caesar dressings are made with uncooked eggs so it can be dangerous. Don’t quote me on that, though.
Caught up on most of the thread, but responded to today’s posts and it was a lot easier and less overwhelming! I know it wasn’t many, but get nice to respond to some ladies!
As a new mom to The Bump, I appreciate the organization. I’m a little hesitant to post, just because I want to make sure it’s all in the right location but I’m trying to figure it all out! The organization is a must for my brain, so I hope we don’t go loosey goosey!!
My random is that I’m so dreading getting back into grad school. It’s my last semester in a three year program and is nothing but thesis writing, but I think I might lose it at some point this semester. I just need to get to May… it just seems too far away.
@wigglyicecream I read it on a list somewhere and I think it’s for the reason that @dimeadozen said. I totally blanked on it until after. I feel like there’s SO MUCH that’s it’s hard to remember the ones you don’t eat as often. Sushi and lunch meat get all the attention.
@brittanynmorris I can absolutely appreciate your hesitation! I don’t know if they still do it, but when I joined back in 2015, they had a 3 day “lurking” period where you couldn’t post and had to just lurk. It was nice for me because I got to know how the boards worked as it was my first experience on a message board. Please feel free to comment on any thread you feel applies to you! And also give us any input on whatever threads you’d like to see or other ideas you have! 😁
@paytonpedro@wigglyicecream@dimeadozen a lot of the food restriction stuff isn’t actually based in scientific data, my OB is totally fine with deli meat, sushi, any cheese etc - she prefers I wait until 2nd trimester. I can’t say enough good things about the book Expecting Better by Emily Oster, she really debunks a lot of the fear mongering type rules pregnant women are told.
@paytonpedro I’m a huge fan of steak, and medium rare is the only temp lol. I thought I’d be SO bummed not being able to eat steak, because well done is just .ew. I’m just devastated I can’t eat eggs over easy. Runny yolks are life 😅 mixed with hash browns, on top of burgers - just so many possibilities.
@anniemarie887 thank you for suggesting that book. I don’t read, but it’d be worth it and a conversation with the OB if there were some things on the list that I felt I was missing out on
@anniemarie887 you’ve mentioned this book enough times for me to give it a quick look and I just ordered it as well as cribsheet. From what I’ve read I think I will enjoy her approach
@and_peggy +1 for the food myths! Like, uncooked eggs aren't unsafe at all and cookie dough doesn't cause salmonella. Like, they're just starting to realize this. *eye roll* glad all that cookie dough I ate growing up was secretly fine. @dimeadozen I love my eggs runny, so I will continue to eat them how I like because they're the one consistent protein source I can eat daily (when I'm not feeling sick).
My random: my 3 year old got her new stander today! It's an assistive device to help her with standing. She only needs to use it about 3x a day for 15 mins. It took months for insurance to approve and for the distributor to build/send it. We took it to her physical therapists today and got it all adjusted.
@anniemarie887 So everyone says no lunch meat because of listeria but my doctor said youre more likely to get that from salad or ice cream, which you’re obviously never recommended to avoid. She errs on the side of caution and said with all the nitrates in lunch meat, that this is why she would avoid it. There’s just no research (as of like 2016, 1st pregnancy) as to the effects on a fetus. Sure you can find lunch meat without nitrates but it’s not easy and usually pre packaged. I just limit my consumption, and usually eat it in an antipasto salad (like last night) just to double my chances of something going wrong 😅😅 Sushi, I was under the impression, was because of the mercury content in some of the fish that’s used? I still eat cooked sushi. My doctor also recommended limiting my shellfish to 1-2 servings a week. But I don’t know anything else about that. I trust her enough to just heed her advice. She’s gotten me through twice already.
Edit: hit send too soon.
@starkette Awhh! I love that! So glad you finally got it approved and in your hands. Insurance is such a hassle! Was she happy about it?
@dimeadozen I definitely ate medium steak all through my first pregnancy. It was my biggest craving and we’ll done is YUCK.
With lunch meat and raw sushi, the risk is foodborne illness, which is rare but higher for pregnant people because you're immunocompromised. Listeria is scary because that can be fatal to the baby, so I only eat heated up lunch meat. I continue to take the same risks I always have with salmonella (runny yolks FTW!) The risk with medium rare steak is toxoplasmosis, the same risk as cat litter, so I definitely won't eat that. I agree that well done steak is gross so I just avoid steak entirely in pregnancy. Not a big deal because we don't eat much red meat anyway. But yeah, it helps to know what the risk is. Even if the incidence rate is tiny, if the outcome is super scary I don't mind avoiding it.
@anniemarie887 +10,000 for Expecting Better!!! Has helped add logic and reason to an area that has traditionally been shaped by "an abundance of caution" with little actual research. My anxiety has dramatically improved. Was a quick and easy read and was organized well (i dont have a cat so just skipped over the litter section), so i highly recommed it too!!!
@and_peggy of course! I love talking about her. She's learning lots of words right now and is a parrot. She'll repeat everything she hears with her little voice and it's the absolute cutest. She has a huge personality and is very loud when excited, which is like all the time. She does toddler babble mixed with real words. She's super social and loves people and attention. When my family visited over Christmas she was obsessed with my sister, kept asking her for hugs saying "auntie hugs". She's definitely delayed developmentally but never stops making progress or trying new things. I don't know what to expect from her future but she's constantly surprising us so she is capable of anything. She's uncertain about the new stander but doesn't hate it. If we distracted her we even got some smiles. Our oldest, her sister, adores her so much. They have an amazing bond.
@starkette she sounds so sweet! I’m sure that’s tough not knowing what the future will hold for her but she’s got a great support system and I bet nothing will hold her back. Thanks for sharing about her!
I took a test and it was negative. But we’re all bound to get it with being right up on each other. There’s no way to avoid it. I’m pretty disappointed with stuff we now have to miss next week.
I just paid money to rent Elf from Amazon because it stopped being on Prime and my three year old is obsessed with it and my husband is chaperoning the weekly high school ski club tonight and movies are necessary. Once the tree's down I'll be able to better convince him that we're done with Christmas movies for the year.
@and_peggy COVID is such a weird virus. My daughter had it in August, and my husband, myself, and my son all stayed negative, even though we basically live in constant physical contact with each other. I hope it will be the same for you and your family! The quarantine really sucked though!
@maggiemadeit I’m hopeful that’s what we have going on here. I just can’t handle this junk anymore. We took all the dang precautions and yet here we are.
