  • @wigglyicecream you are absolutely not alone and I feel like I’m the board police over here. What’s best is when knottie837583, or some rando who couldn’t even have the decency to intro, gets snotty with me on why she doesn’t think she has to follow the rules. I’m sitting here like why am I even here trying to keep things organized when clearly not many care. I almost feel like making a poll post asking when we want here. Because it’s getting aggravating for me too.
  • @wigglyicecream @paytonpedro same but I’m keeping my mouth shut because I already noted that it was annoying and that wasn’t very well received. So I’m biting my tongue every single knottie418373 asks if anyone else is having nausea in the first trimester.

  • @wigglyicecream 100% not alone here. I've been thinking the random posts are getting out of control. I don't mind having more posts, but I want them to be topics we haven't already discussed and to see active members participating rather than being started by people who only ask one question then never participate again.
  • Changed my mind and now I’m just going to snarling reply to every one of them and tell them to ask somewhere else 🤷🏻‍♀️

  • @paytonpedro I think you should totally make a poll post and see where the interest lies. I would much rather feel close to 5-10 of us then feel like I’m doing the “answer a question” from Amazon about pregnancy. I wouldn’t be opposed to a group chat on what’s app, or a private group. I don’t have Facebook so that would be harder to convince me to make a new one again.

@darkrose88 glad to know we share in the frustration. I don’t mind when I participating member makes a thread that applies to everybody.
  • And I’m understanding that the bump is kind of intimidating when you first come on, but I thought the number one rule has always been lurk and figure out what’s going on before just being a special snowflake drive by poster?

I think the constant nausea and constipation is getting to me 🥴🤣
  • I don’t have any experience with other birth month boards so nothing to compare this one too. I’m good with however y’all want to organize it!

My random: How’s everyone doing that is back at work today?? I was doing alright until about midway through my most important meeting of the day. Then I got a headache, tired, a little queasy and just super distracted overall. Luckily I’m done with the “real” work for today and just need to clear some emails. Even though we’re virtual for now, I think I’m going to have some in-person meetings next week so fingers crossed they’re pretty painless. My nausea hasn’t been bad at all but sometimes I just start feeling yucky.
  • Re: the one-off posts: I don't like knottieXYZ asking an obvious question that's covered elsewhere, and I ignore those and assume if other people do the same it will get buried. But I also don't like having to sift through the Great Big Question thread or monthly symptoms threads to find a topic. It's especially hard on a phone where you can't control F. So when someone asks a specific question that can be relevant to everyone (not "should I worry about X?" But e.g. "what prenatals do you like?") I think those are worthwhile to keep and engage with.

Also @starkette +1 about the wipe warmer and baby bath!
  • @wisewitch222

Re: sifting through, I understand the frustration since I also bump from my phone. I would much rather somebody ask a repeat question in the “designated” areas than create a one off post.and even the “annoying posts” from the never going to participates usually generate at least a couple answers which keeps them at the top. Which then makes us have to scroll down to other things bc of the posts.

Also I think that the members that participate regularly wouldn’t mind making more sub threads to keep the engagement up as well as cut down on how long the general monthly or weekly posts get.

And please don’t get me wrong I don’t want to alienate new moms either, I just think it’s fairly simple and straight forward rules of the board. I also don’t want to cause a bunch of board drama, if everybody likes the one off baby center feel by all means. I’ll go back to lurking and cheering from the shadows.
  • @wigglyicecream please don’t leave me haha
  • @wigglyicecream definitely do not want the “baby center vibe” - I attempt to use that BMB too and it’s impossible / infuriating
  • @leahrnmom I was taking my tree down Christmas Day! I put it up right after Halloween and by the end of Christmas night all we had left was a bare tree because I was tired of looking at it😂
  • @leahrnmom I also still love my tree. (Looking at it now all lit up while I enjoy my morning coffee 🎄) Normally I like to leave it up until the Epiphany but last year I had to take it down a week early because my son's school did remote the week after winter break as a precaution so I had to get the tree out of the office to do school in there. This year I had hoped to take the ornaments down on Friday while the kids are at school but if I'm still too nauseous to do things standing up on Friday it will have to stay up a little longer.
  • @leahrnmom +1 for still having out tree up and enjoying it. We didn't put it up until mid December so I'm still loving the tree and I'm still loving my neighbors who have their christmas lights on outside.
  • @paytonpedro I’m not going anywhere. Even if I pull back on participating I’ll still be here. Lol

@mrs-kay929 I took my tree down Christmas Day too. We had a pre lit artificial one and although it was pretty I was over my toddler almost taking it out
  • Still have our tree up over here too. I think my husband is going to finish putting away all the outside decorations this afternoon though.
  • Apparently my most favorite food right now is Tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala. I could eat my weight in it. Everything else including oatmeal and crackers 🤢 lol
  • @darkrose88 I had mine up the day before Halloween :# Lol. Also loving our neighbors' lights still.
  • I'm trying to figure out how to ask for maternity pants for my birthday next week without outing myself to my family :#

While on the topic of maternity clothes- does anyone have suggestions for a winter coat to keep the bump warm? It snows here through May and I know I'll need one. All the ones I'm seeing though are hideous and look like a freaking cocoon.
  • @mrs-kay929 Pregnant coats are literally the worst. I have two spring babies and spent two long winters in one and I felt like that old video of Donald Duck walking up the hill singing Jingle Bells every day. And it wasn't a maternity coat. It was just this weird puffer jacket my mom found that was two sizes too large for me. I looked at actual maternity coats and none of them were warm. They were like spring jackets and all the blurbs were like, "dress in layers!" "You're hot when you're pregnant!" And Michigan winter was like, hard no.

Tl;dr I recommend finding a too-big normal coat, and either way it's going to be hideous.
  • @mrs-kay929 I had a maternity tweed pea coat that I borrowed from my friend for my first pregnancy, a February baby. It wasn’t… terrible… lol. I also have a July baby and never grew out of my actual coat, so I don’t plan on getting a maternity winter coat, or borrowing one, this go around either. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but this is your first baby right? You may be able to get away with just wearing your non maternity coat if it’s a little roomy! I would maybe just wait it out until your non maternity coat starts to get tight. FWIW, it’s snowy here well into April usually.
  • @wisewitch222 your Never Have I Ever entry reminded me of my hatred of cartoons designed for adults.
  • @mrs-kay929 I skipped the maternity coat and "borrowed" (read: stole) a giant coat from my husband. He's significantly larger than I am, and it worked even at the end with my 2 winter-born babies.
  • @aukeev i also completely despise cartoons for adults. There’s something about them that makes my skin crawl. I’ll take shows with actual people, please and thank you!

Thank you guys for the suggestions!! I wish I could get through the winter with my current coat, however it was beginning to get snug even before baby. (Thank you Covid weight gain!). This is my second child and we plan on a few more so I might just bite the bullet and buy a maternity coat. I found one at motherhood maternity that doesn’t look so bad- it has side zippers to essentially extend the coat to fit the bump rather than the horrendous midsection cocoon.
  • @leahrnmom our tree is still up, too. I keep saying today is the day we take the Christmas decorations down and then....zero energy. Ah well.

@mrs-kay929 we get snow super late in the year, too. One year we had a random snow storm in June. I got an oversized puffer jacket from Amazon and I'm hoping that'll be enough. The only time I'll be spending outside is to go from my car to a store so it should be fine. Plus sweaters and other layers. But yea, all the "maternity" coats I've found are just the worst. Why is it so hard for them to make ones that are a little bigger over the belly? I don't want to add an insert. I guess they assume since it'll be used for a short period of time it makes sense for it to convert into a non-maternity coat but that just makes it SOO ugly. Sigh.
