@fameonmain2 yep, teacher healthcare ftw! A state negotiated contract and I have the best one available. My husband's has a higher deductible but a fully funded HRA...but it's like $350 more a month.
For those with surprise bills and prices, I would recommend calling the insurance company and asking how much this pregnancy is going to cost total/what is and Isnt covered. I did it with my first and planned for the FSA/savings throughout the pregnancy. We have pretty good insurance but the final bill from hospital/delivery is pretty significant, it’s good to plan ahead.

@queenklau I did that this time. There was a surprise bill at the end for me last time, because I'd maxed my HRA but not Bernie's deductible/out of pocket, or something like that, I can't remember...this time I know exactly what I'm going to end up paying. My first two births I didn't pay a dime-not for anything at all, so I was def surprised last time.
I just got the hospital registration packet to fill out in advance and included on it are the cash prices for C-section regular delivery and even Anesthesia if prepaid. At least it gives you a baseline to compare costs and yes, I began both pregnancies with a call to our insurance company to go over all benefits including out of network doctors who always randomly seem to find your case to consult on, imaging, and testing, anesthesia which is separate if you don't know also anesthesiologists seem to always be the ones out of network, and hospital fees including extra days, remember if you have to have a C-section you will be there 3 days more than likely that is part of cost increase. Also find out when the new baby becomes a person on your plan. Some count all care separately mother and child on day 1 which means two deductibles some count it as one event unless in NICU. Just good to know how your plan pays out in advance. Do you have to declare a new person in advance to have coverage? Again different states or insurance plans have different rules.
Last time 18 months after my daughter was born the Anesthesiologist said we never paid and sent us an 1800.00 bill. First of all I was on them about timely billing but then we discovered through BCBS that they billed twice! And our insurance paid already so had to submit all that paperwork but it took almost 6 months to clear up their error. My advise save every EOB you get from insurance until everyone agrees they are paid.
