We went for our appointment today and baby was measuring 9 weeks (I would be 9+2), but had fluid build up around her heart and no heartbeat. I'll have a D+C sometime this week.
I'm barely 14 weeks and a week ago I started bleeding. They had me go do an ultrasound baby was fine. This week I started bleeding so much worse and past 2 big clots. I went to the doctor he heard the heart beat and said it was good. I've been bleeding still for 3 days and feels like period cramps. Its scaring me and I'm trying not to be stressed out for the baby but idk what's going on and neither do the doctors.
@fameonmain2 He said it could be some kind of hemorrhage from the pregnancy but they could see no cause for the bleeding on the ultrasound. So I'm not sure.
@Blondesweety444 I'm doing good thank you. I had a doctors appointment yesterday he said babys heart beat is still strong. Best thing to hear right now it was a big relief.
Hey guys. I went to what I thought would be a pretty routine first appt with the MFM on Thursday. We had just seen the twins on Monday at the OB’s office. After a long NT scan (the tech couldn’t get good shots because the babies turned their backs a lot) the MFM came in herself to try to get the final view they needed of Baby B. She got it and then said “Baby B looks great.” Unfortunately, Baby A has a septated cystic hygroma. She has fluid in her head, neck and along her back. She had a high NT score.
From what we understand there’s a chance the fluid could spontaneously recede. The condition is associated with Turner syndrome and several trisomies, as well as several rare genetic conditions. We did have NIPT done and the twins came back low risk female so we are really hoping that test was accurate and Baby A doesn’t have a genetic disorder. I go back two weeks from that appt to check on the twins again and see whether there is any change.
At 15w we could do an amniocentesis on just Baby A which we may do. The twins are identical but it is possible to have one with a genetic or chromosome problem and not the other. What I think is more likely is a congenital heart defect because she was the twin with the slower HB early on (they called her B at our clinic but she has since been A).
Both twins looked active and had strong HBs. If anything A was moving more and kicking and punching her sister. The really hard thing is cystic hygroma has a high rate of miscarriage/stillbirth which is bad enough to think of losing Baby A, but Baby B will be at risk of passing or suffering brain damage if her sister passes due to their shared placenta. Selective termination might be something we have to consider if Baby A has a high probability of death in utero (for example Turner syndrome is fatal in 99% of cases) in order to protect Baby B. Only a handful of specialists are able to do that procedure though, again because of their shared placenta.
DH and I have done a lot of research and I remain somewhat optimistic that the next scan will be better.
@zamoraspin2 I imagine that's a lot to process. I hope things improve in next scan too and those options never come to pass but, will be pulling for you, your husband, and the babies.
@zamoraspin2 So sorry to hear that you’re having to go through this uncertainty and stress. I hope your next scan comes quickly so you can get more answers.
@zamoraspin2 Oh no, I can’t imagine! I’m so sorry that you’re put in this scary situation. I’ll be thinking of you and hoping the next scan shows improvement ❤️
@zamoraspin2 thinking of you and sending strength your way as you wait for the next scan and process everything . Hopefully the next scan will show improvement in Baby B.
@zamoraspin2 That is really overwhelming and must be shocking after having a normal NIPT. Sending you all the patience and strength to make a good decision and have a good outcome. Any chance you can get a second opinion from a hospital that has extensive experience in this area? Thinking of you.
@zamoraspin2, that is a lot to process! It sounds like you and your husband are assessing all options objectively, so just sending positive vibes and praying that the NIPT result was accurate and the next scan shows it.

@zamoraspin2 that must be so overwhelming. I'm sorry you're having to even think about these tough decisions. Sending you so much love and good thoughts for the next scan.
