Re: The Sex Thread

  • I put team green for now but that may change. DH really wants to find out and we've been team green for my first 2 babies. We have until 20 wk scan to decide! Anyone else on the fence??
  • Loading the player...
  • @nasalot188 part of me would like to find out, but DH doesn't.  I agreed since we found out with DD and this is our last pregnancy.

  • @nasalot188 I’m on the fence! We were team green the first time and found out the second. I might find out just in case it’s a girl because we have two boys already. But I’m guessing this is probably another boy.
  • @whatabout2ndbreakfast thats my thinking too. I'm just assuming this is my third boy :D but at the same time if it is a girl, I'm gonna wish I stayed team green lol
  • @nasalot188 we were team green with DS and it was so easy. Since it was our first we just got everything gender neutral. I knew the whole time that it was going to be a boy so I wasn’t really surprised when he was born but it was still fun. This time I’m so torn! We have all boy stuff now, although when I put baby clothes in storage I sorted then by size and by boy or GN, but it’d be nice to know what to wash or get more of for clothes. Plus DS keeps talking about getting a sister so I think it would be good for him to get excited by a brother or sister and not to be disappointed by one or the other.

  • I would love for it to be a surprise, but my husband is so impatient he will want to know as soon as possible. Our 3 year old daughter is positive that it'll be a girl and will be really upset if she's wrong, so I think its probably for the best to find out when we can so she has time to process that info and be excited for another brother, rather than wait until they're here and then potentially have her feel heartbroken and resentful.
  • @nasalot188 Definitely on the fence. I want gender neutral stuff, but we are both very impatient and curious people so I’m not sure we can hold off. We may find out but not tell anyone else. I have a feeling it’s a boy, can’t explain why but have felt that way since the beginning.
  • We will definitely find out ASAP! I see maternal fetal medicine some time between 11-14 weeks so I’ll have a blood draw done then. I give major props to all who are able to wait! I am too much of a control freak and I need to get everything perfect and prepared 😂 I cannot wait to find out!
  • We were team green with our first and it was so much fun.  I also loved that people didn't buy a ton of super gender specific stuff at the baby shower so we can use it all again.  This time we're going to find out, I'm hoping in the next few weeks with the NIPT test.

  • My sister-in-law (17) is super excited this time and wants to do a gender reveal with her family.  Overall I think gender reveals are silly but I'm leaning towards letting her do it since she is so excited.
  • @deziraywatt I think gender reveals can be obnoxious and ridiculous when they are super extravagant and when they involve guests feeling like they need to bring gifts - almost like a second baby shower. But we did a gender reveal with DS2 because we though it would be fun for DS1 - just family and we got a balloon from party city and let DS1 pop it (he was 4 at the time) and he was so excited and it was a lot of fun! We might do a cake or something for the kids to be involved with this time around
  • @deziraywatt I do think big reveals can be over the top when people have huge parties but I think it'll be fun to do it with family.  I think we're just going to get a cake as a gender reveal and just have it my husband, son, and parents so low key.  But it's fun to find out in a fun way!

  • We were team green for our 3 kiddos. I’m pretty sure this is our last, so I might want to find out this time because I’m pretty sure I’m carrying our 4th girl so it won’t be much of a surprise to wait until birth. We’ll see though. If we do find out, we’ll do a gender reveal for our girls and any family that want to take part.

@emeraldduchess haha yes driving people crazy is one of the perks of being team green! My mom was so annoyed that we wouldn't find out/tell her, in addition to not telling her any of our favorite names, for either kid. My mom is a sweetheart but overly persistent when she wants something, so it was very satisfying that she didn't know the "juicy" details, muahahaha.

ETA: how many of us clicked on this thread because we thought we were talking about the other kind of sex?
  • Hahaha @sleepydaze! That's why I did it. And because I'm one of those people that is a stickler about it not being gender but sex when it comes to human anatomy.

Also we can totally start an actual sex thread for a little S21 after dark. Especially with Valentine's Day coming up.

  • With my first, we were TG and I LOVED it! I knew she was most likely a girl, so when she was born and the dr lifted her up and referred to her as "he" I was like uhh what!? And then he double checked and hes like oh wait no, it is a girl! 😂

We decided to find out with my second to see what that was like. With our third, we decided to be TG again because we prefer it, but then we accidentally saw it loud and clear on the ultrasound (even though the tech knew we didn't want to know, he even put a photo of it on the CD for us 🤦‍♀️). We didn't tell anyone it was a boy though.

This one we will be TG again and try harder to not find out lol. I just think it's the ultimate surprise 😊

  • @CanadianGamerMom I totally agree it is the ultimate surprise!! I would be team green everytime if it was up to me but silly DH and his opinions  :D:D
  • With my first they assumed I didn't want to know but I clearly saw her type XY on the monitor.
  • I just had blood drawn yesterday for NIPT so could find out in two weeks. On the fence. Team green with DS1, found out with DS2 due to genetic issues.
H wants to know, I was leaning TG. If we had both sexes already it would be easier to go TG now. As this is the last baby, the stakes feel a bit higher. I think it’s probably another boy... if I find out the sex on his birthday I won’t be disappointed but I feel like I might be a little if I find out in advance.
Also here’s a tip: you and your H can find out the sex and tell everyone you’re team green, especially if you want to share the the surprise on the special day and if you don’t want gendered gifts.
If we find out, no one will know that we know.
  • ...I also think staying Team Green might annoy some family and friends. I'd be lying if I said I won't enjoy that just a tiny bit. 😂
    ^^^^^^THIS! lol
  • @JustAnotherUsername16 a friend of mine got so much crap from her family for keeping the sex of her first a secret. One person told her she was being selfish because "nobody will know what to buy you for your shower!"  Hmmmm. Pretty sure all babies need the same stuff.
  • @emeraldduchess they didn’t know what to buy? There’s this little thing called a registry and we put exactly what we want on it... 😂

  • The only time I got annoyed with a friend for not revealing the sex was at her baby shower they wanted to play a game(ish) thing that revolved around people voting on names for the baby. They had boy names and girl names and it just seemed kinda weird that they already knew the sex but were still having people vote on names that didn't even matter. Idk the whole thing was just weird. BUT I still would never ever tell her or show that I was annoyed..I'll never understand people that get so annoyed they feel like they have to voice it over trivial stuff like that
  • @chewie5990 yeah, I agree that's pretty annoying. I'm sure you weren't the only one feeling that way at the shower.
@emjeve that's what my friend said about her registry. I think a lot of her older relatives wanted to go to a brick and mortar store to buy baby clothes and other sex-specific things rather than look online and order gifts. I do understand the frustration with finding neutral clothes. My SIL didn't know the sex of her son before he was born and we had a tough time finding neutral things that weren't gray with elephants on them. I had no problem finding neutral yarn to make gifts, though! One of my nephew's favorite blankets is one I made with bright citrus colors.
  • Is anyone waiting on imminent NIPT results? Curious if anyone is finding out soon.
  • @agea - I’m doing my NIPT draw on Friday although I’m unsure at this point if I want to find out. Did you have to decide (if you wanted to find out sex) before the sample was sent it?

  • @agea yep, waiting on NIPT results here.  I let them know we wanted to find out.  Once results are back I'll ask them to write that part in an envelope and go pick it up so that mh and I can find out at the same time.  He's already missing out on so much with not being able to go to appointments, I want to be sure and include him as much as possible.
  • congratulations @marymh80!!!

I finally scheduled my genetic counseling for 3/4 and can likely do my NIPT blood draw that day or the day after. Feels like forever away but so excited to have a ballpark idea of when we will know!!!
  • @marymh80 do you have any others or is this your first? Congratulations!!! Eeeeek!!
I had my blood draw last Friday and they said two weeks. Do you know the brand/service? Mine was Progenity.

@gutsysneakers yes they asked if I wanted to know via the test. The nurse was confused when I explained yes, BUT I want to be asked before I’m told. As in have the test pull the result but don’t tell me without checking. I’m wondering if they can post to my portal or send me an email instead of announcing via phone call.

@grizzlymama86 I live too far away to pick up the results otherwise would do that!
  • @agea I have a son who turns 3 this week. When I was pregnant with him, it was exactly a week for the NIPT results.

The company was NexGen. My doctor said it'd be 5-10 business days. The company called me Monday to verify my insurance info and they reiterated it'd be 7-10 business days. I was shocked the doctor called me the next morning!

When the woman from my OB office calls with the results, she asks how I want to know them. She's always excited when I say "just tell me!" because a lot of people want it in an envelope to give a baker or an email to open with their husband, etc.
  • My doctor is having my bloodwork done for NIPT and asked if I wanted to find out the sex. I didn’t the NIPT with my first but wasn’t given the option for sex. My 2nd one we didn’t do the test, so my 3rd I’m excited to find out earlier than normal.
  • I’m getting my blood work as early as next week. I could have gotten it today but she said the amount of DNA fragments increases at 11 weeks and gives a much better sample. So I decided to wait. We will be finding out the sex and I’m excited.
  • @chewie5990 how fun! Can’t wait to hear how it goes!

I thought about doing that if the insurance didn’t cover it. But because of my age and history the doctor wanted me to NIPT so it worked out.
  • @chewie5990 I did the sneak peek test last time. Just make sure you clean the area really well and don’t touch anything while you’re collecting your sample so you don’t contaminate it with any make DNA. It was right for us. I contemplated using it again but I felt like by the time shipping got everything here and then to the lab I could already have the genetic testing done. Shipping is slow in AK especially since the pandemic started.
