I received my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine 2.5 weeks ago and I’m getting my second dose on Thursday.

ETA: if anyone is interested, here is a link to a registry through the University of Washington Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology for those who are pregnant and received the vaccine. I signed up earlier today.

@Jcrewgirl85 Lurking from August 2021 (due August 31-September 1 lol).

Thanks for sharing the link, I signed up.

Scheduled to get my first Pfizer vaccine tomorrow and will be about 11w5d. A little nervous given the unknown, but saw that 20,000 pregnant women have received it with no severe side effects. So putting my trust in science! I also work in a school, so there is risk of exposure. Fingers crossed all goes well!

Here is the article for those interested:

  • NY State just added pregnant women to their eligible people list starting Monday. My OB recommended getting it. But the appts are super scarce.
  • So good to hear so many of us are recent the vaccine. I heard back from the study today and completed it- took about 25 minutes to do.

It’s interesting because I’m not sure if I can attribute the symptoms I had after (headache, fatigue, nausea) to the vaccine or just pregnancy in general since I was 5 and 7 weeks when I received the doses.

  • I got my first dose yesterday! I did get a headache after which I attribute the vaccine since I rarely every get headaches and today my arm is very sore, but nothing unbearable. I’m a lot more worried about the 2nd dose - when my husband got his 2nd shot he was pretty knocked out the entire next day - a lot of body aches and he slept the entire day. I’m thankful I’ll be in the 2nd trimester when I get the next one so that hopefully I’ll be over the 1st trimester exhaustion.
  • I’ve been thinking more about getting vaccinated because I heard that if you get it in the 3rd trimester it passes immunity to the baby..... has anybody else considered putting it off til 3rd tri so that the baby also benefits?

@runningonindie Part of me wishes I could have waited that long!

I’m essential so I can only telework 2 days a week and am still traveling for work. For me, it was a necessity to receive both doses as soon as possible. I think you need to take your work/home life into consideration. It will be different for everyone.

  • @runningonindie I’m pretty sure the vaccine is only good for a year. So if you get it now, you will likely be able to get it later too because it will be close enough to a year. Plus I assume there will be plenty of doses by that time.
  • I will be getting it when I am eligible. My midwife recommended me wait until second trimester since there is such little data on pregnant women and the vaccine. I’m group 4, though, so in my state I won’t be eligible until probably spring anyway. For me, the risk of getting Covid (pregnancy does put women at higher risk for complications) is higher than adverse risk from the vaccine. I’m a hairstylist, so I’d love to be protected for me and the baby.
  • @mybigfatgreekfetus the only side effect I had from the first dose was a super sore arm - hopefully you won't have to deal with anything crazy! I get my second dose next week!
  • @mybigfatgreekfetus I came back here to say the same thing. I have a 5 and 2 year old and they are my priority. They need their mom. So as soon as I am eligible, I’ll be getting vaccinated ❤️
  • @chewie5990 I heard somewhere that a heat pack to the arm after injection can help with the pain and swelling. I’m going to try that. Good luck to you too!

@dancingram our kids are the same age! It’s about to get real come September 😬

I just got an appt booked today! Very excited. But it’s not till the 25th so I’m nervous it could be the j&j vaccine which I don’t think as enough pregnancy data yet.
  • I was able to book an appointment for next week, but I'm feeling a little weird about it because I'm only sort of qualifying for two of the newly added eligibility categories depending on how they qualify them... there hasn't been specific info released on what kind of documentation is needed so I just did it, but I'm feeling weird about it! I want this vaccine so badly but I certainly don't want to keep that shot from someone who needs it more than me.
  • @Aerialmrs if they let you schedule take it! Every person who gets it lowers the risk for everyone else. Don’t feel guilty!
  • @cassafrass123 That's what I keep trying to tell myself! And that the "caregiver" requirements have been so incredibly relaxed, why wouldn't each added eligible group also be relaxed.

  • Am I the only one who’s OB never mentioned the vaccine or any precautions I should be taking now that I’m pregnant?
  • Got my shot today! So far feeing good. Such a relief!
  • @emeraldcity1214 - mine didn’t bring it up the vaccine, but I did.

  • @emeraldcity1214 My midwife also didn't bring it up, I did!
  • @emeraldcity1214 I don't think my OB was planning to talk about the vaccine, so I brought it up during the "do you have any concerns/questions" part of the first appointment. I work in a high risk environment, so the vaccine was pretty much the #1 thing on my list of things I needed to addresss.
  • Good to know. I won’t be bringing it up at all to my OB but it’s good to know that it isn’t unusual that she didn’t bring it up.
  • @kissyfir1586 hooray all around!!!
  • I finally got a chance to talk to my OB about it today and of course she 100% recommends it (which I expected) but now finding an appointment is challenging.  I wish I had just gone ahead and scheduled a few weeks ago.

  • @feelingjovani Search in FB for a group like "(my state) vaccine hunters" or something like that. I joined one for my state and it was full of good tips for getting appointments! They shared details like when appointments become available at which locations and reported when mass vax sites opened or moved. It helped me look in the right place at the right time!
  • @Aerialmrs thank you, I just found a group!  I know it's only one day of looking so I shouldn't be worried but I'm just wishing I did it a few weeks ago when I became eligible.

  • @Aerialmrs that advice was super helpful...I managed to find an appointment today through the vaccine hunters group!  Woo hoo!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @feelingjovani Awesome!! Glad it worked out!
  • @sawasap fellow Ontarian - I saw that announcement today too! So excited... I really am
hoping to get vaccinated before this baby comes. My husband will also likely be in Phase 2 since he works in “essential” industries (pharma & food production) so our family could be done around the same time! (Minus the kids but they’ll be a while before they are eligible).
