@quiltandknit I have no side effects to Clomid. But I’m the exception not the rule. @runningoncookies had really bad side effects and - if she’s lurking - can tell you about them. The Egg Whisperer calls Clomid “Clo-monster” and jokes that if you’re gonna be taking it, to call ahead to your priest and line up an exorcism.

@quiltandknit I did 3 round of Clomid varying between 50-150mg (and the first round I actually took it twice because I didn’t respond right away). It was not great TBH. I had hot flashes that would wake me up at night soaking wet, and on occasion would make me strip layers at work! They would usually last for at least a week after stopping Clomid. I had headaches, insomnia, and ridiculous mood swings too. DH knew that anything I flipped out about or cried over was probably not real, but he did a great job trying to manage my spiraling emotions. Definitely warn your support system that you make turn into a crazy person! With all that said, I really hope that you’re one of the people who has minimal side effects

@quiltandknit The only thing I'll add is that I took mine at night, right before bed. That way the worst of the side effects would hit while your sleeping. Good luck!

@quiltandknit I took Clomid at night. I didn’t really feel any side effects of it - not sure if that’s because I slept through them or if I just didn’t have them at all.

@acleverusername Since you asked: My FET was cancelled. For the first time ever, I had a thin lining. TWO FREAKING YEARS of IF treatment and I’ve never—not once—had a thin lining! The one time it happens is days before my FET, of course. 🤬🤬🤬 I think you asked before if my IVIG or the resulting illness/side effects were interrupting my cycle. Well, I don’t know, but now I’m definitely wondering if it impacted things. Also, I hope your IUI went well (if it’s happened).

I’m an acupuncturist that specializes in infertility and I’d like to chime in on the vit D topic. While many western mds might not think it is important, it’s one of the “easiest fixes” that i go for first with my clients. Vit D is so important for so many systems within the body and can make the difference for some patients when it comes to getting and staying pregnant.

If your levels are not getting within the normal range with 5000 units, what you can do is try a different form of the supplement. You can also try higher units like someone suggested. I used thorne supplements exclusively because they are some of the best out there, and they have 3 forms of vit d: a pill, a liquid you take as drops and a liquid combined with vit k. If you were my patient i would try the drops with k, or just vit d drops for you to see if that solves your problem. You really want to see your levels over 35. I’m big on blood work for my patients and this is one of the first things i tackle with people (this and checking thyroid levels and antibodies.)

Sure a lot of the population is walking around deficient in vit d, but... anecdotally i have really seen this make a difference for fertility patients. For some bodies it’s the difference of finally seeing success.

Also i hope everyone in this thread will perpetuate the following information. Castor oil packs are a wonderful tool to help the uterus, and i personally had success with them, however hey should only ever be used pre-ovulation. Please please don’t ever do them after ovulation or gearing up for an egg retrieval. They are used to dissolve masses, so they are great for what we call blood stagnation in the uterus: think painful periods, clots during menses, fibroids and other masses. That means that they should never be used when an embryo is present or possibly present. If someone doesn’t know when they’ll ovulate i tell them they can only do them until day 8 of their cycle to be on the safest side of safe.

@lickastick Thanks for that helpful info! I actually did switch the brand name of my Vit D to the Theralogix brand. I've also started taking them with supper (instead of lunch) figuring it's my fattiest meal, and I also take Fish Oil at the same time. Hopefully that will help with absorption better. It's jut too bad that it can take 60-90 days to take effect. In the meanwhile, I will look at the combo vit D + vit K and maybe make that switch.

Re: Castor oil packs - that's super helpful. I've been following these instructions. Interestingly they say NOT to do Castor Oil packs _during_ menses. I wonder why that is?

@lickastick thank you for your input! That's really helpful, and will definitely keep that in mind for the future, especially re: the castor oil packs. I do have a large, benign, subserosal fibroid that doesn't seem to impact anything other than just getting in the way of scans and/or retrievals. It was recommended that I have it surgically removed as it is still growing at a rate of about 0.5-1cm/year, but my OB suggested I wait until we're done having babies and/or if I ever have a c-section he can possibly remove it at the same time. Nobody has ever mentioned anything about any ability to shrink it. I'd be interested in learning more about that castor oil packs as a remedy for shrinking fibroids.

The reason why they say no castor oil packs during menses is because if you are doing it with heat it can increase the blood flow out and that can get problematic if you have heavy menses already. If someone has light periods I’m ok with them doing it while they are bleeding during menses. If you ever been someone that went through a pad or tampon in an hour or two you shouldn’t use it while bleeding.

@kiki047 the thing about castor oil packs is that it takes a long time to make a change. If you are looking to shrink an actually mass, you’d want to do it every other day for months, and what happens is that people simply can’t comply with their busy lives. Sitting down to do it for 20-40 min, not to mention the mess of it all, just gets to be too much for people. If i can talk someone into it for 1-2 seasons in a week, I’m ecstatic. What i do for fibroids is use herbs. They offer a much faster turn around time and people have a much better time with compliance. However herbs + castor oil = even better outcomes.

But...not all fibroids will shrink with those things, some fibroids will need surgical intervention even with throwing everything at them. Plus the type of treatment you need to shrink a fibroid is not something you can do while ttc, it’s contraindicated for getting pregnant. Those things might be why you’ve never heard of it before. You can find some die hards for castor oil on the Internet that will tell you it can fix everything, but i see it as an accessory to my other tools that i like to use.
