Re: Weekly Randoms 1/18

  • I'm supposed to travel this weekend and next for work. Obviously I'm very nervous. I have KN95 masks, cloth masks, and face shields, and I plan to use them all. With my first pregnancy, I actually flew to Asia for work around 7 weeks so this is a super fun pregnancy tradition I've started  :|

I'm feeling nervous about morning sickness while traveling, so I've got ginger candies, mint gum, morning sickness tea (haven't tried it yet), and some fig bars and protein bars to have with me. I'm considering getting those seabands, but it feels a little like overkill right now. Any suggestions?

  • @Aerialmrs no suggestions, I haven't dealt with much MS this time of my first pregnancy, but wanted to say good luck!

  • How do we feel about maternity jumpsuits? I like a good jumpsuit but I'm not sure if the bump enhances the look. I see influencers on IG rock them but they are cute in everything.

  • @krash_ I don’t think I could pull that off. I’m not one to wear a jumpsuit when I’m not pregnant so take that with a grain of salt.
  • @Aerialmrs i would get as much stuff as will bring you comfort. (In terms of both protection and nausea support.) I do not enjoy travel around this phase but fortunately don’t have any planned this time.
you definitely can’t get out of it right?
  • @Aerialmrs what kind of morning sickness tea did you get? You sound pretty well prepared, good luck!

@krash_ I’m pretty tall so I don’t wear those to begin with but I did see pregnancy overalls that were shorts and kinda cute on other people anyway.
  • @whatabout2ndbreakfast I agree, the stuff is cute but I’m too tall for it so no good advice.
any one piece clothing items go right up my crotch. It’s not *the* cutest look.

@whatabout2ndbreakfast I'm tall too (5'9") so I usually only wear jumpsuits that are meant to be ankle or capri length.

  • @krash_ I love how maternity jumpsuits look! I'm not sure I could pull it off, but I would try one on if I was going shopping in person. I am not tall, but feel like they look better on tall people! Double-edged sword? hah

@agea nah, I can't get out of it now unless I test positive beforehand, and I sure don't want that! It's actually a fun part of the job, but obviously much less fun this year. And pregnant.

@whatabout2ndbreakfast It was in a cylinder canister at Target, right next to the preggiepops, I can't remember the brand. It smells good!

@krash_ you know those circus clowns that are super big and round in the middle? Like they've got a giant rubber ring around their waist? That's what I felt like when I tried on a jumpsuit while I was pregnant.

That's not to say I won't try again! I love me a jumpsuit, but I remember looking in the mirror and feeling horrified lol

    Editting my grammar fail
  • @krash_ I don't think I have ever seen a maternity jump suit! I imagine there are people who can pull them off but I am not one of those people! I don't like jumpsuits based solely on the fact that when using the bathroom, the top part has to come down!
  • @Aerialmrs ugh,  flying with nausea does not sound fun right now. Might as well try the seabands - they have good reviews. I've been wearing them and I think they might be helping. My doc recommended b-6 and unisom to take at night for nausea which should help the next day.
  • @lmcw I can’t unsee that description. It’s spot on and I think I’ve come to the conclusion they probably aren’t for me.

@emeraldduchess yes that is definitely the worst part about jumpsuits. I wore a short romper to Austin City Limits music fest last year and being half naked in a porta-potty that drunk people peed all over was unpleasant to say the least. Not to mention the risk of it touching something 😬

  • @krash_ I have never been a big fan of jumpsuits.  My last pregnancy I wore a lot of Tunic dresses.  I even found ones that had pockets which was excellent.  I loved them so much especially once I started getting further into the pregnancy.
  • @deziraywatt do you remember where you found those? DS1 was a November baby and DS2 was as an April baby so my maternity summer stash is slim. Does anyone have a favorite maternity short they found?
  • @whatabout2ndbreakfast I ordered them from zulilly.  I just ordered some new ones.  They have lots of different styles and colours.
  • @krash_ I think they are so cute! Unfortunately I probably couldn’t pull it off though lol
  • @krash_ I wouldn't be able to pull off a jumpsuit.  My first was a feb baby so my maternity summer clothes are pretty much non-existent.  I will probably live in shorts and a tank.

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @sleepydaze Yep! We were trying but for some reason I thought it would take us forever. It was our first try. Now I go back and forth from “Yay so excited to have a second!” To “Omfg what did we do?” 🤣
  • @sleepydaze Hahahaha I've got 3 kids and I'm pregnant with #4.. I think that all the time (about my inside and outside babies)  🤣
    image
  • I have 5 kids. My first and second are 12 years apart and I remember thinking “what have I done,” when I got pregnant with #2. Then we just kept adding babies and now it’s no big deal.
  • @law_and_little1 bringing this to randoms because I don't want to clog up the u/s thread but my statement regarding the only way to find out the sex of your baby is to ward off the drive bys that like to post the u/s pictures and ask us to use Ramzi theory to guess the sex of their baby.

But the only definitive way to know the sex of your baby is to give birth. Ultrasounds, even 20wk or later, can be inaccurate, and blood tests can be contaminated by the mothers DNA. I'm not sure on the accuracy of an amnio but I would assume someone wouldn't do an amnio just to find out the sex of their baby, usually there are much more important health concerns if someone is getting an amnio.

  • @sleepydaze Yes!! This is an IVF pregnancy for me and we ended up getting 2 embryos that we froze. So I keep switching between “what have we done” and “ooh we could have two more if we wanted!”
  • @sawasap did you transfer both?  I'm excited for twins since both our embryos stuck, but at the same time I think what the hell did are we getting ourself into!

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @Centralmnmom No, we transferred one and froze 2 (three good quality embryos). I’m in Ontario and our government healthcare covers 1 ER and any transfer that results from that ER (all except for the drugs and the freezing), but they’re strict about what you can transfer. Under 35, you’re allowed to transfer one and over 35 you can transfer two.
  • @sawasap my clinic only allowed us to transfer 2 because they were untested.  We still have 1 more day 6 embryo frozen should one of the twins not make it to term and we decide to try one more time.

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @sleepydaze due to the current hormones and nausea I’m lately in the
“What have I done?!” camp. I expect it to pass but it is not enjoyable.
  • Anybody else constantly freezing? Normally in the winter I have a hard time getting warm again, but I've been having a hard time getting and staying warm way more this pregnancy than usual.
    image
  • @CanadianGamerMom I have been bringing my comforter with me around the house for the past two weeks.
  • @CanadianGamerMom I fluctuate from freezing to sweating. Depends on the moment.

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @CanadianGamerMom I have raynaud’s syndrome, so I feel like I’m always a little bit cold and constantly have blankets on. I’ve definitely had a harder time getting warm after even quick things like taking the dogs out or getting the mail though. Historically whenever I get that “can’t get warm again” feeling I find that curling up and taking a nap does a good job of resetting my body temperature. So far that seems to be working for me now too, although it’s not always an option.

Speaking of naps, how many naps is everyone taking per day given the chance? Sleeping too much makes me feel like shit but being asleep is my only peace right now.
  • @agea weekends are my favorite (and I’ve never been happier that there’s really nothing to do) because I take a nap in the afternoon. I literally look forward to it all week lol 😂
  • @agea No naps over here.
  • @agea I’d love to nap! I’d say I get one a week lol. My 2 year old (who used to be a glorious 3-4 hour napper) rarely takes them anymore. And if he does I try to use that time as special time with the 5 year old. I can’t even say I’m going to bed earlier cuz I tend to stay up after the kids go to bed and watch tv or read or just sit 😂
  • @agea I took a nap yesterday after sleeping 8 hours the night before. Even after my nap, I was in bed before 10 because I felt so lousy after dinner.  I think I slept 4 hours, woke up, went back to sleep for another few, then woke up again. Finally dragged my butt out of bed around 8.  :(
  • DH taught me how to use our snow blower this morning. It was lots of fun and I nearly got DH with a bunch of snow because I forgot to turn the blower around a few times. 😆 I was grateful he got it out because I would have had to shovel it all and it was 6 inches. The smell of the exhaust nearly made me vomit. So I had to hand it off to him after awhile. I usually take care of maintaining the yard and drive so it’s nice to finally know how to use that thing.
  • @agea My 2yo enjoys waking up at 4am and most of the time refuses to go back to sleep. We come downstairs and he goes in his highchair with a pouch and his water and he watches tv while I try to nap in the recliner right beside him. That doesn't typically last very long though until my other son is up. Other than that, no naps over here.

With my first I could nap anytime I wanted since I wasn't working at the time (not for lack of trying), but since having more that's basically just been a dream haha
