@forevertired I recently started buying Kate Quinn too! Love the things we've gotten so far! Also love LouLou and Co and got a sleeper I love from mebie baby.
@Lexibizzel@forevertired I second the Stars Above pjs from Target! I have a few pairs and they are SO soft, I love them. One word of advice - wash them along the first wash if they are a colored pair. I had a bright floral set that bled the first time I washed them
I'm in the market for some new blackout curtains for this baby's room. Have any of you had to custom order blackout curtains before? Where should I look? The windows are really tall so I'm at a bit of a loss. The ones I ordered for DD's room are no longer available, and I don't love what I bought for DS1's room so I'm on the hunt. My only requirement is grommets, which is surprisingly hard to find these days.
Would anyone suggest the Boppy lounger and a baby nest? I'm not going to use either for sleeping, just as a place for baby to chill/be put down for a moment.
@Lexibizzel I love the boppy lounger. I looked up the baby nest and it looks similar to the dock a tot which I also wouldn't use for sleep but does seem like it'd be convenient. The boppy worked well for us so I'm not going to get a baby nest or dock a tot. I'd say you only need one of these.
@Lexibizzel I'm a FTM so I haven't used either personally, BUT I was gifted the Boppy lounger by a friend who raved about it and said she used it all the time as a place to put baby down so she could use her hands.
@juliebird6 have you considered looking at Target? We found some that we really love, and they’re available at various lengths. I think they’re Threshold.
@juliebird6 I got some for our nursery and our bedroom on Amazon. I got the Nicetown 100% blackout curtains. They have lengths up to 108 in. They work pretty well for blacking out, I can really only see light that comes up and over the curtain rod, and that is pretty minimal.
@Lexibizzel In November, I did an extensive Instagram poll on whether moms preferred boppy, dock a tot, or thought that both were necessary and the overwhelming advice from my friends was that it was great to have both, for different purposes. Boppy for breastfeeding and dock a tot for laying baby down/naps.
@juliebird6 I’m a big “dark room & sound machine” mama - so when we moved into our new house and needed 3x sets of blackout curtains, I actually went ahead and ordered custom blackout shades from SelectBlinds. They’re the pull and roll down kind & honestly they stay down ALL the time. I got the kind that go inside the window frame, so we could just put up regular curtains over, and voila, perfect blackout in every room! They do a good job of telling you how to measure your windows (but I’d have hubs help, just for your own sanity because it needs to be exact and it’s hard to do with one person) & if you stalk the site a bit they do have coupon codes!
Hey everyone, Buy Buy Baby has a big sale that started today! They have deals on strollers, carseats, clothes, and more. I snagged some sleep sacks and a portable sound machine for 20% off, plus an extra 20% off of the most expensive item with an additional coupon.
@bbrahmbhatt thanks for the heads up! Haha I was noticing all the bbb ads today but not paying them much attention - I may need to go see if I can knock some things off our list!
Bottles - I’ve read you should replace baby bottles and nipples every 3-6 months. I don’t think I ever replaced any bottles/nipples with my first son unless they were visibly damaged. We bottle fed for a year and only really changed bottles/nipples when he needed a faster flow or a larger bottle size. Do y’all follow the 3-6 month rule? Would you re-use bottles from baby #1 knowing they’ve already been used for over 3-6months?
@jenn622-2 I hadn’t heard of replacing the bottles themselves, but yes on nipples. I *think* that’s only necessary if you’re breastfeeding, because nipple holes stretch out over time. So you’d want to be sure to refresh the nipples so they’re not too easy to get too much at once. Even if you’re not breastfeeding it’s probably a good idea to get new size 1 nipples to start so they’re not getting too much before they can handle it.
@jenn622-2 FWIW, I am using the same Dr Browns bottles that I used with my twins that were born in 2012. The only part that I will replace is the nipples. We did the same with our last baby in 2019.
I think the replacement rec is based on the degradation of the nipple and plastic. If you have glass bottles it’s not necessary. I replace my dr browns with every baby because we wash them in the dishwasher on sterilize every time and even though they’re chem free plastic I know it takes a toll on the integrity of the plastic. Once the bottles/nipples start to look cloudy I replace. If you’re hand washing you could probably reuse?
I would sterilize (either boiled or used the sterilize microwave steam bags) the plastic bottles we used when he was an infant so the plastic may not be in the best shape.
Thanks everyone for your input! I’ll probably toss a couple that I know got a lot of use and keep some of the ones I purchased when baby was older.
@jenn622-2 echoing a few others...we've been using the same bottles since 2015 (this is #4) and I've never replaced nipples. We've added in a few new ones here and there but definitely still using some of the originals!
Good to hear I’m not the only one reusing bottles. I think a lot of manufacturer suggestions to replace items after a certain amount of time is just to get us to buy more! I do want to be cautious about plastic leaching but the 3-6 month guidance seems like overkill!
