@kiwimangohoneylemon hopefully next week goes better. If not, definitely switch providers if you can. You want someone on the same page as you that you are comfortable with.
@kiwimangohoneylemon sorry you felt so uncomfortable. I agree with @Kenneylynn3, I’d you still feel uncomfortable after your next appt, is look into switching providers. From my experience, they ask a ton of very personal information to try to get a full picture of you, your lifestyle, and your health habits. One thing that surprised me during my first appt with my DS is they asked my husband to leave the room and then asked me a bunch of questions about domestic violence, sexual habits, and drug use. It took me by surprise but I’m glad they do such a thorough review on their patients. Thankfully there really wasnt much to say on the topics (other than an abusive boyfriend in college) but I also appreciated that they asked my husband to leave so I could speak candidly if I needed to.
I hope your next appt goes better and you feel more comfortable. 💙
@surrenderdorothy 100%! And yes actually the Medical Assistant also asked if it was planned, if I was in a relationship, etc. but it was night and day! I felt so comfortable and excited and like you said, happy thet ask these things! Then when the CNM asked the same things it was so off like she had decided I was lying or something. Hard to explain! The person at the front desk said after the next appt I can request to see the other CNM or the various OBs there so I can get to know everyone. That made me feel better. Thank you and @Kenneylynn3 , though, for saying that. Once you have been seeing one OB for awhile, you forget that you can still shop around. While Ive been seeing one of the OB's there for years, I had never met that CNM. 💛
@kiwimangohoneylemon could just be the air has gotten drier, or something like that? Nothing about being in the cold should affect your likelihood to get sick, whether you're pregnant or not, so hopefully that's what your CNM meant and she just phrased it kind of awkwardly! But I agree with others that if in general you don't vibe, might as well consider your other options.
I just had my phone follow-up for my blood work on Monday. Beta was 39,000. Phew! It is sort of meaningless on it's own, but it is at least well over the threshold to be able to request an ultrasound. So my doctor is putting in the request and my first prenatal appointment has been scheduled for January 29th. Feeling a bit of relief having made it this far. TW previous loss
When I miscarried in October at 7 weeks, my hcg only ever made it to 5,000. I know that the range for hcg varies greatly and isn't the be all and end all of a healthy pregnancy, however, hearing this number today has calmed some of my PGAL anxiousness. So I am going to take that as a little win.
My first appointment is next week (Friday) and a couple days ago we find out some ridiculous bullshit is going on with our insurance. We have insurance through the university my husband works for as a PhD student. The program covers the insurance for both of us. But I’m looking something up and notice our coverage expired on the first. So my husband gets in contact with the admin person for the program and she explains that the graduate program reactivates the insurance at the start of the spring semester and back dates coverage. So we are covered for this time period but if we go into the doctor before the 19th (when the semester starts again) it’s going to show that we aren’t current insured. It’s a whole mess and I’m so pissed off about it. She’s trying to get our insurance put in early and seems hopeful that it won’t be an issue but if it doesn’t go through I’m not even sure how that’s going to work...are they going to expect me to pay for the entire bill at the time of the appointment? That’s not going to be cheap...ugh I’m now just stressed about this appointment rather than looking forward to it. I really don’t want to reschedule as I’m already 9 weeks (will be 10 at the time of the appointment) and I don’t know what time the midwife I want will even have another open.
@dancingnarwhal I don't understand why insurance is always such an issue. It's so absolutely maddening. A few years ago I saw an orthopedic surgeon about a back problem that I was (and an still) having. He said an x-ray won't show him what he needs to see so he said I would need an MRI. Insurance denied it. I wasn't even surprised, but I think because I knew it was coming it made me even more angry. What a nightmare to get that sorted. I didn't end up getting the MRI because it was too much of a hassle. It's always something. It sucks that it's happening now for you. I hope they get it sorted before your appointment.
@ladyk127 - Ugh, yes! Insurance is always the worst! Also it’s insane that they can just deny something a doctor says you need. I just assume the worst any time I have to deal with insurance
Anyone here get prenatal massage or acupuncture? I had one appt and I am so glad I mentioned my sore breasts because they had a special boob hole insert thing. Kinda funny looking, but definitely made the experience very comfortable! Just a heads up to ask if they have that if any of you plan on going 💛
@kiwimangohoneylemon I definitely read that as there was a spot to place the acupuncture needle to help with sore boobs and was trying to picture a large needle with a weird hole in it- not a cutout for boobs 😂😂
I had my first midwife appointment on Saturday. They found the heartbeat right away (I was 10.5 weeks) and everything was good. Apparently me turning 35 5 days before my due date makes me geriatric, so I’m hoping I don’t go past 41 weeks again. I’m supposed to get an ultrasound for dating next Friday.
I signed up for more blood tests than I have before because I’ll be 35 and it’s covered by insurance so waiting for those results this week.
I have my first in-person prenatal appointment today and my doctor is going to try the doppler. I'm 10w1d, so I am trying not to get my hopes up. But also, they messed up my requisition forms for the blood testing I was supposed to have done in advance of this appointment.
Anyway, it's really hard to focus on work this morning. I just want it to be appointment time already, but I have 2.5 hours to go...
@claireloSC It went well! She was able to find the HB! In my excitement I forgot to ask what it was, but it was good and loud. She also let MH come in for that part of the appointment, so he got to hear it too. She also gave me a prescription for diclegis, because the nausea is getting worse (rude!).
But at least for today there was a sweet little heartbeat and I'm feeling good about that.
