@sgrn18 I'm like 75% sure my regular OB doesn't do NT in office and sends everyone to a MFM office for it. Not 100% bc I am high risk so they'd send me anyway, but they've made comments before about the US machine they have in office vs. MFM. The MFM is supposed to contact me to schedule once my OB establishes EDD. Does her office do something like that?
@sgrn18 I think it does depend on the practice, and definitely depends on your age. I've been AMA from the get-go, but if I were younger I think my OB would have just told me it's available if I want it, rather than encouraging at least one test. My OB is also generally very supportive of testing, whereas others may not be. Finally, these tests are relatively new, so some practices may not be as familiar or comfortable with them.
Thanks all for the replies! She said they just told her they don’t do either of the tests there. But she’s too far for the NT now. She’s also rh neg and was spotting for like the 1st 4 weeks after she found out and they never gave her a Rhogam shot. Also told her that she wouldn’t get one at all this pregnancy which is absolutely not how that works. She’s looking for a new OB but having a hard time finding one that can see her before her next appt. I know I have a medical background so I pick up more on these things but good lord if something doesn’t sit right with you, you leave.
@MelissaMay82 yes first pregnancy. @_orchid_ She actually just found out her blood type with the pregnancy too. But no rhogam wasn’t even mentioned to her until she asked about “the shot for negative blood” 😬 She has been good about calling me when something doesn’t seem quite right but this OB is killing me with all this crap!
@sgrn18 I can't even imagine your face when she tells you all of this! I didn't know my blood type until ds2's birth, but I had heavy spotting/bleeding with 3 pregnancies before knowing it and my Dr checked my blood to see if I needed rhogam!! That's crazy that no one even mentioned it to her.
@AKuzReve same here. It has to do with blood type - the + or - that is listed with your blood type (might be an antibody in your blood- I'm not sure about that!) If mom is rh- and dad is rh+, baby has a shot of being rh+ which can cause problems, and sometimes heavy/consistent spotting is a sign of that. A rh- mom can get a rhogam shot which helps her body accept the rh+ embryo. It's always one of the first questions my OB asks when I call about spotting/bleeding, and a fairly easy fix. I think most people are rh+, and there's no problem if a mom is rh+ and the dad is rh- . Sorry for the book- I've had heavy spotting/bleeding 1st tri with 5/6 pregnancies so this is something that the nurses always ask me on the phone (until I memorized my blood type)
@mindyb2019 I'm sorry you are so sad about the gender of the baby. I will tell you as the mom of a boy and with another one on the way boys are great! Could you order some cute boy clothes. There are more cute boys clothes out there than you would think. I always like the clothes that look like mini-versions of what DH would wear. Just an idea to help you get excited about your baby boy.
@sgrn18 My doctor's office doesn't do NT testing because NIPT testing is so much more accurate. They also said some insurance companies have stopped covering NT scans since there are more accurate diagnostic options. She could call her insurance company and see if there are area labs that could administer the test. I had to go to a lab for the NIPT rather than in my doctor's office. Up until then they had done my other blood draws.

@_orchid_, no I know. I’m RH-. At 27ish weeks, they checked my blood again and since there were no antibodies (or whatever they checked for - I can’t remember bc mom brain), they didn’t do the shot. I was really surprised because I know in the US and Canada, the shot is given regardless at that time.
Edit: because I remember. So they check your blood again at 27 weeks to see if the fetus shows RH+ blood. If so, then they give you the shot.
@AKuzReve ohh interesting! I didn't realize that people get the shot more than once. Did YH have to get bloodwork to see if he is + or -? Or do they just check your bw?
Yeah here they usually give rhogam for spotting/bleeding or any time that the fetal blood may have mixed with maternal blood, 28 weeks, and after delivery. The problem won’t be with this pregnancy but subsequent pregnancies. Since these antibodies can cross the placenta they can attack a fetus with rh+ blood and end up in a miscarriage. Her husband is rh+. She tried to get in with my OB but they don’t have any availability for like 8 weeks out. She made an appt with a different doctor in the same practice as mine for next week so hopefully that works for everything. She’s beyond frustrated. Understandably.
Replying to the rhogam stuff. I have had to get rhogam with all 3 kids because of my blood type. I thought it was mandatory and not an option since it could kill me or the baby from my understanding. So weird that it wouldn’t be offered to someone but hopefully they can figure it out and get a new OB if they want one
Speaking of rhogam too, my last pregnancy, I was irritated that insurance didn’t cover my rhogam shot. It confused me since it was necessary or it could harm me or the baby and insurance wouldn’t cover it.
@_orchid_ I didn’t have the energy to call insurance and sit on hold and find out the reason why. I probably should have but I just didn’t have the energy. Lol. The shot cost me maybe $100 so it wasn’t a huge expense compared to other parts of having a baby, but still the fact that it wasn’t covered baffles me. I have the same insurance this pregnancy so maybe ill look into it more this time.
@mindyb2019 I’m sorry you’re dealing with gender disappointment. It’s really real and you shouldn’t feel bad about being disappointed. I have two boys and I don’t want to be pregnant again so if baby is a boy, I know I’m going to have some twinges of sadness too. I so badly want to dress a baby in all the cute dresses and bows.

Upcoming appointments: Had my first ultrasound this morning and everything looks good. Now having midwife appts every four weeks and anatomy scan toward the end of Jan
How are you feeling?: Great now that that scan is over! Tw....
I had a missed miscarriage back in June which was discovered at a 12w scan and I haven't allowed myself to post in this group or really think about it until now. Was a ball of nerves before the scan and feeling such relief now!
Rants/Raves: Can't wait for the Summer break - I've got two more days of work then on holiday for a month!
Questions: Has anyone measured one week ahead? If yes, was your due date changed?
