  • @Lexibizzel I hear you on the tired. It’s so different with littles already running around. I’m tired 100% of the time.
  • @Lexibizzel I feel you on being tired too. Hang in there! I’m a few days behind you, but I am still waiting for that magical second trimester energy 😜 I get random spurts of energy. This morning I used every ounce of that to clean our bathroom. Add in homeschooling and 2 young kids and the pandemic and the election and all the other things that come with life and I think it’s reasonable to be exhausted!
  • @bblair24 @Lexibizzel I'm with you guys on feeling so tired. I get those random spurts of energy, and then I crash, HARD. MH and I are hoping to have another child, and I shudder to think how I will feel for that pregnancy.
  • @bluey101321 at my last scan at 12 weeks she was measuring 12w3d, so not quite a difference of 4 days, but they said it wasn't anything to worry about and we would just see at the next scan (at 20 weeks..what?)
  • @bluey101321 I measured 13w at my 12w appt when my original due date had me at 12w4d.  My OB said not to worry and that they wouldn't move my original due date. If I learned anything about ultrasounds and measurements from my first pregnancy it's that they are really just a guesstimate; that's why they take so much time during the anatomy scan to try to be as precise as possible, and there's a 'range' of measurements for what they consider 'normal'.
Towards the end of my pregnancy they realized by my fundal height (belly) that I was measuring pretty small, even though everything was within 'normal' range at my anatomy scan.  They brought me in for an ultrasound at 36 weeks and again at 38 weeks and decided to induce me because the baby was measuring small - they assumed only 5lbs, 3oz, so the idea was it was better to start feeding her on the outside. I was induced and delivered 2 days shy of 39 weeks and she was only 4lbs 12oz; I was shocked!  The delivering OB said that there's really no way they can confirm sizes via ultrasound, it's really just a guesstimate.
So this time around i was pleased to be measuring 4 days ahead vs behind..!
  • @Lexibizzel lol I'm 31 but with 2 kids running around I'm exhausted even though I'm out of the first tri. I think this is just life now.

@emeraldisle17 oh wow! I had a growth scan at 33ish weeks last time. I went to 40+5 and DD2 was 6lbs 11oz so not as tiny, even if you adjust, but my first was 8lbs at 39+6 so we were just like "wow this baby is small" in comparison. Definitely nice to not have to worry as much about that this time, I'm sure. My OB has been super accurate with the size/weights of my 2 children just by feeling my stomach. Apparently they used to pick up turkeys and chickens and have to guess the sizes as a game in med school. She has been spot on both times (if I went to 40 weeks she said 6.5 lbs so the extra 5 days brought me to 6lb 11oz). But yes, ultrasound is a huge guess.

They forgot to call me to tell me they moved my appointment so I showed up Tuesday and my OB was doing rounds at the hospital. I couldn't make the time they'd moved it to so I rescheduled for tmrw with my OB (they offered another OB who could have seen me then and there but since it's my last appointment I have questions for *my* OB plus I love her and want to say "bye.") I did my second tri bloodwork draw yesterday. Only 1 vial instead of 9 for the first tri stuff so that was nice. I also got a call from my new OBs office for when we move finally (I requested medical records to be sent like 6 weeks ago and that process took foreverrrr). So I have my intake call scheduled and my anatomy scan + 20 week visit with an NP which is a huge relief b/c I was worried about getting on someone's schedule.

  • I have anatomy scan on the 12th, I will be just over 19weeks and I’m really nervous about the full bladder needed for the ultrasound. I usually pee very often and it’s a small amount. Last time I really had to pee and she said my bladder wasn’t even close to being full. I’m nervous I will pee my pants or be really uncomfortable or just haveee to pee before she starts the ultrasound 😂 I know this is ridiculous but I can’t stop thinking about it

@grilledcheeezin did they tell you you need a full bladder for this one? For my nuchal translucency at 12 weeks they told me to go to the bathroom a half hour before and then drink 16oz of water right after that (so also a half hour before). If I recall for my prior 2 anatomy scans at 20 and 18 weeks and for my growth ultrasound at 33 weeks with DD2, the baby is big enough at that point that a full bladder wasn't required.

  • @kvh22 too funny about the chickens!!  And your doctor being able to guess with his hands, now that's a fun fact!

@grilledcheeezin agree with @kvh22, I don't think its's as necessary at the anatomy scan because the baby will be larger. For my first pregnancy the tech actually made me go to the bathroom in the middle of it because my bladder was 'too' full. So I wouldn't stress!
  • I’m curious, what’s the purpose of having a full bladder at the ultrasound? At my previous OB (that delivered our two girls) I was never once told to have a full bladder. In fact I’d have to pee in a cup at the beginning of every appointment, including the US ones. The notes I receive at this OB say to come to every appointment with a full bladder. I assume that’s because of the cup peeing, but I’ve always wondered why you’d need a full bladder for an ultrasound! I feel like I’d pee on the table once they start pushing on my belly. I’ve had some close calls with my kids rolling around on me when I need to pee. 😂
  • @bblair24 the more fluid, the clearer the imaging. Later in pregnancy, you have more amniotic fluid so you don't need a full bladder but earlier on, it helps to have a full bladder so there's more liquid. At least that's my understanding! (And the opposite if its a transvaginal ultrasound, then you want an empty bladder).
  • @theblondebump ooh that does make sense. Thank you for explaining! I remember in my previous BMBs, women mentioned needing a full bladder for an appointment and I never knew mine didn’t require that!
  • Thank you for the reassurance @emeraldisle17 and @bbrahmbhatt. I’m going to try and not worry about it until they have something definite to say is a concern even though that’s easier said than done for sure! Lol.
  • @bluey101321, I consistently measured a week ahead with DS1 and a week behind with DS2. Both are perfectly fine although DS1 is in the 99th percentile for height even now, 8 years later. I think a lot of it has to do with how and where you're carrying, as well as size of baby. With DS1, I carried him completely out front and was HUGE. With DS2, I carried him more toward the back, and at 39w, looked about 7mos pregnant.

@grilledcheeezin, I'm with the others. For later scans, I've always been told to EMPTY my bladder.
  • @grilledcheeezin I wasn't told to have a full bladder for my inital or NT US, so I'm not sure if it is necessary. @bblair24 the purpose of a full bladder is to lift the uterus up out of the pelvis so its easier to get better views from more angles, but the further along we are the more the uterus should be up and out, so I wouldn't think it would be necessary.
  • I’m already feeling better about it thank you! On my last appointment they did say come with a full bladder but I’m not going to stress out too much anyone about it...
  • @bbrahmbhatt gotcha! It’s funny to me that I’ve never had to do that, and I’ve had probably 8 ultrasounds between all my pregnancies! I think I read that sometime around now (16 weeks for me) your uterus is up over the bone, so I would say you’re right that it’s not an issue anymore.
  • When do you / did you have your appointment?  18 week/anatomy scan yesterday
How was your appointment? Overall good, but sooo long. I was there early for my 2:45 appointment and I left right around 4:20. They ended up adding a Pap smear (fun) so basically two appointments, but still way longer than I expected.
What'd they do? Anatomy scan, regular talk, Pap smear, plan for next appointments
Feel free to ask any questions - either leading up to your appointment about what to expect or after your appointment. What does anyone know about placenta previa? When my doctor mentioned it he briefly just said we’ll check it again at 32 weeks and then he was already on to something else (I think I had to hold my breath or something) and by the time he had a break in his talk I had already completely forgotten about it. Like, it was about six hour later I remembered it, after I had talked to DH, my sister, and my mom and said everything was great.  :D I googled a little because I couldn’t remember what it was and it looks like most go away, but I’m afraid to google too much. Does anyone have experience or more info about chances of complications?
  • emeraldisle17 Agree on the size/growth stuff all being estimates.  I think fundal height is especially prone to error.  I had to have two ultrasounds during the final 10 weeks of pregnancy last time because I was measuring behind on fundal height.  I guess they thought size/growth was ok on the ultrasound though since I was not diagnosed with IUGR or induced.  My son was born on the small side (6lbs 9oz) after I went into labor naturally at 39+4.

@grilledcheeezin I get stressed about the full bladder thing too.  Last time my ultrasound was delayed and I thought I was going to pee my pants.  I kept asking the front desk lady how much longer and if I could pee just a little and she kept assuring me it would be just a minute and to try to hold it.  The ultrasound tech looked at a couple of things and then said I could go halfway empty my bladder.  I'm not trying so hard for it to be full next time, that's for sure.

I had a telehealth appointment last Monday that lasted about 3 minutes.  My anatomy scan is scheduled for 12/7 (my due date with my son!).  That seems far away but it's only about three weeks at this point.  I wish my husband could come.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @forevertired I don’t know what that is but if no one has an answer for you I can do the scary googling and then come back with the less scary Cliff notes version lol

@kadeephd I went on time to the appointment they were 20 minutes late to get me I thought for sure I was going to pee my pants got the ultrasound she said my bladder wasn’t full lol so at least that is over with
  • @kadeephd I feel like I would have so much trouble emptying my bladder just part way! To have to stop your pee and then hold what’s left would stress me out big time 😂
  • @grilledcheeezin that’s really sweet of you! If no one else has any experience that’d be great!

@forevertired I have not had any personal experience with placenta previa, but I am in medicine. Placenta previa is when some or all of the placenta lies over the cervical opening. It is usually not considered too much of a big deal earlier in pregnancy, because as the uterus grows the placenta will often times move off of the cervix. It will be something that is monitored, and if it is still over the cervix later in pregnancy you will likely be scheduled for a c-section. I hope this helps!

ETA for wrong tag...pregnancy brain y'all
  • @grilledcheeezin I had a previa with my last pregnancy. I tried skimming to see what your exact question was but couldn’t find it. I got put on modified bed rest, was told that no tools at any doctor’s appointment should go inside me, and that if I started bleeding to go straight to the ER.

They did more frequent u/s to watch it / hope it moves and / or resolves, and I was lucky and it eventually did.
  • @forevertired what @bbrahmbhatt said!  Placenta previa is when it completely covers the opening of your cervix, and if it doesn't move on its own then yes, you'd need a C-section.

At my anatomy scan with DD they mentioned that my placenta was 'closer than they'd like' to my cervix, but wasn't a 'full' placenta previa. They said 90% of the women in my case would be fine as it would move out of the way as my uterus expanded. They brought me back for an ultrasound around 36 weeks to confirm, and sure enough it had fully moved.  So worst case, yours hasn't moved out of the way enough and they'll schedule you for a C.
  • @theblondebump, yay for a good appt. I'm so jealous your DH gets to go to the Anatomy Scan. They won't let anyone but me at our MFM. Freaking COVID-19 and State Governors that deny its existence
  • @theblondebump yay for a good appointment! That's awesome your husband gets to go; there is a strict "no visitors" policy at my hospital, so unfortunately MH has to settle for facetime. +1 for heartburn; I've been taking omemprazole daily and tums as needed. I also eat at least 2 hours before bed, which has seemed to help some. Do you notice it worse when you lie on your left side? For me it is definitely worse when I try to lie on my left side, which I know is the preferred side for pregnant women to sleep, so that makes me a little annoyed/worried.
  • @theblondebump +1 for heartburn. I also take pepcid daily, sometimes even twice/day. It sucks but it's temporary. I had it HORRIBLE with DD and it immediately stopped when she was born.
  • @aisukurimsarang @bbrahmbhatt ugh I'm so sorry that both of your husbands have to miss out on the anatomy scan! that really stinks :( (although apparently if you ask yesterday's doctor, its a snooze fest anyway LOL)

Anddd @bbrahmbhatt and @juliebird6 - at least I know I'm not alone on this acid reflux stuff! I've been taking tums a lot whenever I'm in the midst of experiencing it, but I guess I need to start taking pepcid. I haven't noticed it worse when I lay on my left side, but just generally laying down at all definitely makes it worse. I have to like sit up in bed, even when I'm ready to go to sleep.
  • i have a detailed ultrasound coming up to check cervical length.  i went into silent labor (dilated without feeling contractions) at 35 weeks last pregnancy.  so they are checking for short cervical length this time around.  any one else have experience with this?!
  • Had a basic heart rate check and they measured me a week and a half ago and anatomy scan and appointment next week. I’m beyond excited to see little squish!! I’m still down like ten pounds from pre pregnancy weight, but since baby’s heart rate is good, I’ve got a bump, feeling baby kicks and nothing seems off in urine my OB isn’t concerned unless I go back to vomiting often while taking unisom/B6 and zofran. I’m still needing both daily or the nausea and puking just comes right back but she’s okay with me taking both for the whole pregnancy especially with having HG in previous pregnancies.
  • Had my anatomy scan last week and things look great! Was so reassuring because I haven't felt baby move as much as I did with DS (have an anterior placenta this time around). It definitely made things more exciting and real, not feeling her move had me feeling more detached lately and now I am starting to look forward to it!

Next appt is a video on (blah) the day after Thanksgiving, so I'm sure it'll just be a chat with my OB about how our Thanksgivings were, lol.
