@jumpy57 Jo is a fantastic middle name...though I might be kinda biased since it my middle name too 🤣 My parents were expecting a Scott Joseph and I was a happy surprise when I came out Scotti Jo haha. @earlgrey_honey I love that name! Is just rolls right off the tongue. It's a really strong name. @birdiejo Winnie is just a sweet name. And I really like the spelling of Baer. It's very classic/traditional.
Digging up this thread because I think H and I have decided on a name for a girl and a boy (we'll find out which we're having next Friday)! Middle names are always family or friend names for us. We decided on that from the get go when choosing DS's name. First name is just one that we decide we like, and we try to go for one that's recognizable/easy to pronounce but not common (like, around #500 on the Social Security name list is a good comfortable spot. LOL
DS is Leonard (nn Leo). Meaning of Leonard is "lion-hearted". His middle name is my FIL's name, who's one of the best humans I know. If this one is a boy, he'll be Eugene (nn Gene). Meaning: noble. If it's a girl, she'll be Beatrice (nn Bea). Meaning: bringer of happiness. We still need to decide on middle name. We've got a few people we'd like to honor, so once we know the sex of the baby, we'll just start saying different first name/middle name combos until something sounds right.
There have been so many great names mentioned! We're having a boy & we want something kind of unique but not too too unique. Currently thinking of Troy but having trouble with a middle name. Troy Alec Troy Christiansen Troy Jacob Troy Jakin Troy Laurence Our last name is 1 syllable and I keep changing my mind on whether I'd like to keep the middle name short as well or long?! Input appreciated
@ajbelle I personally seem to like the longer middle names with your one syllable first and last name, but I also think it could depend on the exact names.
I don’t think we will decide on a name for sure until she’s born. Our frontrunner is my great grandma’s (who I never met) name. Middle name is very much undecided. My maiden name is an option as it is also now one of my middle names. As of Friday, Ruth was added to the middle name list (😥) and actually goes really well with our likely first name and our last name.
@ajbelle you could look at initials to help decide between names too. Troy Alec is nice, but if your last name starts with a G then his initials would be TAG 🤷🏻♀️ which is fine, just another way to look at it

Hmm, what about Troy Alexander, thought isn't not very unique. Austin? Sebastian? Xavier?
What is your initial impression of the name Zachary (nn Zack)? For some reason I just think of it is a “young” name. Like I can’t think of any distinguished people with that name and it just makes me think of a kid. My H really likes it but I can’t shake this feeling. My H pointed out that we have had a US president named Zachary but I didn’t even know that and had to google who it was.
@moguippy I didn’t know there was a president with that name, either 🤷🏻♀️ I might be showing my age, but I first think of Zack Morris from Saved By The Bell. If it’s a name that you’re not comfortable with, think about it for a week or two, say it out loud a lot, etc. Sometimes names you initially didn’t like grow on you. Or use it as a middle name if your husband is really keen on it. You can also look up variations or similar names online to see if there’s another name that you both like.
@moguippy I can only think of the movie Dear Zachary so it makes me incredibly sad.
If you have not seen Dear Zachary, do not watch Dear Zachary. Its the single most heartbreaking documentary I have ever watched. I'm a huge true crime fan and it was too much even for me.

@moguippy I just googled "famous people with the name Zachary" a majority of them seem to be athletes (outside of Zach Galifianakis, Efron and Braff), maybe that means yours would be super athletic? Generally though, I like it, one of my best friends is a Zach, he's pretty great!
@moguippy I like Zachary, with Zach as a nickname! I think it’s a fun nickname, and if I went to the ER and heard “The doctor on call is Dr. Zachary Williams” I wouldn’t be like “Oh shit, that sounds like a child’s name!”
I generally am a huge fan of serious names that have cute fun nicknames, so they can do double duty as a casual name and a “serious” resume name. Ex: my son is Leonard, but his nickname that we use 100% of the time is Leo.
I know I’m being weird about it. I think it’s because it was a super popular name in the 90s so I just think of all the kids I went to middle school with. And Zack Morris bc I grew up watching saved by the bell.
I knew about the actors all named Zac/Zach but I didn’t know about the athletes.
Idk. I think it’s bc it’s not my top choice so I’m finding things wrong with it. A little backstory about naming: for DS I was set on my dad’s name for a middle name so H got to pick first name but I vetoed his first choice and we settled on a name we could both agree on but wasn’t first choice for either of us. This time H wants to use his dad’s name as middle name so I get to pick first name. H has already vetoed my first choice so we are just trying to find a name we both don’t hate again. I would probably pick Louis over Zachary but my H likes Louis much less. I love the nn Louie. We are terrible about picking names and it took forever with DS.
My mom is being super pushy and annoying about what she thinks we should name the baby. I like Isabelle for a middle name and she wants me to give her a first name of Dillion...... my mom is one of my best friends but she shoots down every name that I suggest. I know in the end it matters what DH and I choose. i like Cecilia, Sawyer. I told her about Cecilia and she’s like “that’s not bad” ... my sisters advice is just to not tell her anymore.
Keep it a secret! @roadspeckle My mom loves our two kids names but I don’t know if she’s going to feel the same about this one so I’m acting like we haven’t figured it out yet and aren’t sure.
@roadspeckle this is 100% why we don’t tell anyone until the baby arrives and we announce the name to everyone at the same time. People feel waaaaay too entitled when it comes to choosing names for other people’s babies, like they somehow deserve a say or something. 🙄
I use this line very frequently when we tell people the name we chose: "We're naming her Wrigley Emma. We're not looking for suggestions or opinions, thanks!" I always use my best customer service voice and smile and it shuts people down pretty quickly. I know that the name we picked isn't everyone's favorite BUT we love it and thats all that matters to me.

I really like the name Jett, my husbands name is Jeff. They are very similar and I feel a little too close, when I am calling one, will the other get confused?? Any thoughts?
@dlbello23 for me, I couldn’t do it but you do you. If you and your h love it then go for it!
If you’re concerned about the similarity in name I guess there’s tons of people who name their kids after themselves and it works for them! But yes , when I say both names they sound close enough to be the same if I’m not paying close attention.
@dlbello23 I like the name Jett (but my H does not) so you get a vote from me! To be honest I got called my older brother’s name (that sounds nothing like my name) more times than I can count that I don’t think it would matter
@dlbello23 love the name Jett! Yes, they are very close. I think chatting with people that might be hard of hearing could be your biggest annoyance if they can't use context clues to figure out who you are referring to. I think it would overall be convenient if they both responded when you called one or the other
@dlbello23 i like jett. There is one in my ds class. It’s cute. my hubby and son are a few letters diff ish and i mix them up in talking all the time but it’s fine cuz sometimes i accidentally throw the dogs name in there too and she’s a girl 😂 i think it happens regardless
I've typed a few options to talk over with hubby once we find out gender (fingers crossed that'll be 9/11). Right now my top picks are William (Will for short) Nicholas, William after my late dad and Nicholas is hubby's name. Another contender is Benjamin Nicholas. As for a girl, which we are pretty positive that's who's in there, I'm thinking Amelia (Millie for short) Nicole. Another is Gabriella Mae.
Since we know it's a girl, I've been leaning heavily towards Emily Nicole. She could still be called Millie or Emma for that matter. I haven't mentioned names to hubby yet bc he's set on Nicole as a first name so trying to compromise. Considering both of our other two have middle names on his side of the family, I don't see why having the feminine of his name couldn't be a middle name too.
@aaimee I LOVE the name Emma, mainly because I love Jane Austen and Emma is her best novel. Millie is also an adorable nickname. Not that my vote matters , but I vote Emily Nicole vs Nicole.
We've decided on Beatrice Jane for this kiddo. Nickname will be Bea. Jane is for Jane Austen, who I just mentioned above is my favorite author and general life hero. Beatrice isn't named after anyone in particular, it's just a name that we both like. And it means "she who brings joy" which is fitting.
Y'all and my first BMB are the only ones to know. Everyone else will find out when Bea is born, since I don't have time for people to be all whiny like "But I really like this other name." "I don't like the name Beatrice. It's too old fashioned." "I knew a person name Beatrice and she wasn't nice." yada yada yada eye roll. We waited to announce our son's name for the same reasons and it worked out perfectly. We only had one person (DS's aunt) who commented that she only liked his nickname and not his full name. LOL whatevs, aunt.
I am having the worst time committing to a name this time. I wouldn't even talk about it until we found out the sex, but that was 4 weeks ago! We had a name for both boy and girl before we found out our first was a boy. My husband is still happy with the girl name we had last time, but I'm not sure.
Right now the top choices for baby girl are Cecilia Or Carolyn.
@angelofmusick I love both of those! I maybe lean slightly more towards Carolyn.

@angelofmusick I don't think you can go wrong with either of those names, both are pretty and classic. I might agree with @tamalahoops that I like Carolyn slightly better
@hannahbananas11 I love Beatrice! I think its great. I also agree with not telling anyone until baby is born. In general I have also decided not to commit to a name until she is born. I feel like I need to meet her first, to make sure it's the right fit.
I’m jealous of everyone making name decisions. We are so indecisive that we don’t even have a list and we found out the gender this time. With DS we didn’t know and went to the hospital with 2 girl and 2 boy names. He still wasn’t named for about an hour 🙈
@babymamadimo same! We went with 3 names and decided when we were moved to the postpartum room (before the social security woman came with the paperwork). I think we are going to do the same this time- just go with two or three boy/girl names and then decide after birth.
@szwill86 I love when people have little hats, onesies, nameplates, etc with the baby’s name on it at the hospital, but I know that will never happen for us because we cannot make any name decisions haha

You could always give a more traditional middle name so he could go by Z. Robert or something mysterious but I think Zachary is a good name 👍
