OCT 2020 FET

Re: OCT 2020 FET

  • @emilynoel810 I'm sorry.  Extra estrogen in the body is bound to cause some discomfort.  I generally take 10 mg/day to prepare for FET and in the beginning I have some side effects but they usually fade.  I know a lot of women here have a rough time with estradiol.  Hang in there.

AFM: I had the methotrexate injection on Wednesday to resolve the issues not allowing my hCG to drop and it seems to be working,  I dropped from 58.79 on 8/31 to 38 today.  I have another blood draw on Wednesday and hopefully we will see another big drop.  I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.  It's beautiful in Boston.  :)

  • @halfanewt  Thanks for the info! That’s pretty much what my nurse told me. Sounds like all things I’ve done before (subq shots, peeing on sticks) so that makes it less scary!

@ladyp0tter The cost surprises are definitely one of the more stressful parts of IVF! I’m glad to hear your SLC clinic is cheaper than the Houston one. It really does make a difference!

@emilynoel810 Estradiol made me nauseous and triggered headaches/migraines but I think I’m just very sensitive to hormone changes (makes IVF extra fun! /s). Aside from drinking ginger tea, I didn’t take anything special for it but tried to take it easy.

Are you ladies doing anything special to prep for next month? I kinda want to go “wild” and do things like eat sushi and soft cheeses and drink champagne! Live it up for a bit before going back into lockdown with my body.

  • @emilynoel810 lurking. The estrogen pills made me viciously ill. My Dr. switched me to the patch. It bypasses the liver so you won’t feel nauseous. I highly recommend switching. They cost more but you won’t get sick.
  • @MooDaly I had a methotrexate injection so I can't have alcohol right now but once I get the green light that I'm back to normal I plan to start enjoying wine again.  H and I have a vacation planned to the TN mountains that we are really hoping does not get cancelled and we are going to eat/ drink our way through eastern TN before transfer...hopefully.

  • Thanks @laurad75 for the welcome.  We finally got our PGS results back (it felt like a lifetime) and we got 2 normals!  So I am excited to have 2 tries for now.  I hope your vacay to TN is awesome.  My parents live there and it’s beautiful!
  • @keeptrying23 @MooDaly @laurad75 Thanks all! I started taking the estradiol pills with a small meal and it seems to be helping a little, or maybe I am getting used to them. I'll ask about the patch when I go in on Friday for my lining check.

@laurad75 I lived in Boston for 7 years and miss it everyday! It's my favorite city by far.  I live in South Carolina now where it has been pretty unbearably hot all summer, though the last few days have been a little cooler.
@MooDaly I am definitely "living it up" as much as I can during COVID - my 5:00 wine on the porch is my daily therapy.

@rkstro2 Congrats on your 2 normals!! Are you going to find out sex?
  • @emilynoel810, I didn’t have this problem with any of my last transfers, but this time around I also feel lots of nausea and upset stomach while taking estradiol 😖 which is messing with my head, since it feels like pregnancy symptoms, but I haven’t even had my transfer yet.

@MooDaly, LOL! Husband and I actually ordered sushi and drunk champagne a few days ago in preparation for the transfer at the end of this week. I know it’s cutting it a bit close to the transfer, but we really wanted to do that before we can’t anymore for 9 months (feeling very hopeful about it!)

@rkstro2 - congrats on the 2 normal embies!

AFM, FET meds arrived today; trigger shot + the progesterone supplements. We have Progyny as our insurance and I love that the pharmacy they use (Alto) always sends a candy with meds. October feels both near and far away.

    *TW* ivf success / failure

<div class=" Spoiler">I have had both medicated and natural cycles, and I have had both medicated and natural cycles succeed, and fail.  My story is in my siggy, if you are on desktop, but anyway my last three (omg it feels crazy to think how many FETs I've had 😬) transfers were natural cycles, two failed, and the third stuck! 🎉

My clinic did similar to @halfanewt ; monitoring (plus, I did opks at home because I'm just like that, and I tend to ovulate on the early side), then trigger (one super-easy sub q), then progesterone suppositories.  Nice not to have the PIO for sure!  But one possible downside is I don't necessarily recommend testing too early because the trigger will give you a false positive.  Like I would almost wait till just the night before beta, if you can stand it, because for some people it can take a very long time to clear 100%, and I know for me seeing that early line in a frer can turn into such a torturous mindgame.

But "natural" definitely a nice way to go!  GL!!! 🙏🙏🙏</div>

  • Right? @laurad75 #is2020overyet???
  • @laurad75 Congrats on your numbers being down! A transfer as early as 10/8 is amazing!
@moodaly yay for meds! How are you feeling?

AFM, I had my ERA biopsy this morning! It was a lot more painful than I anticipated, but so glad it is over. I am disappointed as my RE said I will have to taper off the progesterone and estrogen and then go back on BC for a few days. Probably looking like early Nov. for transfer, but maybe I can squeak in at end of Oct.
  • @laurad75 - congrats on starting your new FET cycle!  I’m a day behind you.  I just started my estradiol today. Yay!

@emilynoel810 - Fingers crossed that you can get your transfer in October too.  Waiting is one of the toughest parts of this whole process.
  • Hi all! Just caught up with everyone's posts! We are doing good. Our Donor had an ultrasound yesterday and they are watching 23 follicles right now. Hoping that we can get AT LEAST 24 mature eggs out of this, so praying we can boast a few more in the next couple days. She goes back tomorrow for another Ultrasound (day 10). She triggered on day 10 the last 2 cycles she did so likely either retrieval Friday or Saturday. SO EXCITED!!!

  • Hi! I was diagnosed with infertility in 2017 and went straight to IVF because my AMH was so low.  My right ovary ended up being fused to my uterus and bowel (I also have Crohns) so they were unable to get to it during retrieval.  It was my best responder, so we ended up only being able to get one egg, and it was unsuccessful.  After meeting with my RE, we decided to proceed with DE but took time off to grieve and re-center. Late last year we purchased our DE and had them fertilized. We ended up with two blastocyst.  I had my first transfer in June it was unsuccessful.  We had an ERA and BCL-6 test done, as well as PGS testing on our last embryo.  My re said to not expect it to come back ok because it wasn't the best quality but it came back completely normal.  After a two month break to get onto a new immunosuppressant, we are finally prepping for transfer 10/7.

  • @kweavil Welcome and good luck!! So glad that your last embryo was normal.  We did PGS testing too and there was very little correlation between the grading quality and genetic normality - seems like that has been the case for lots of the ladies on here. Goes to show you that you just never know!
  • @kweavil, welcome! And good luck!!!
I had success with “not-so-great” graded, but normal tested embryos, so feeling hopeful for you!

  • @BusinessWife Thank you! That info was really helpful

@laurad75 and @kweavil — wow! 10/7 and 10/8 are just around the corner!

@ladyp0tter that’s so exciting. Let us know how the retrieval goes and how many you are able to get. I’m really curious on the logistics of using donor eggs and sharing a donor so please share info if you feel comfortable.

@emilynoel810 Hopefully they can sneak you in at the end of the month FX. What is involved with an ERA?

AFM, started my cycle today and got my schedule. Covid test tomorrow. Baseline on Monday and then I start peeing on sticks again starting Friday. My clinic hasn’t been letting partners in for most things but they said my spouse is welcome when they do the transfer. I’m really excited that he gets to be there.  So nervous/excited for my first transfer.

  • Thanks @MooDaly An ERA is an endometrial receptivity assessment. Its a test to see how your lining is responding to the progesterone. From what I gather, there is a small window of receptivity when the condition of your lining is ideal of implantation, and for most women it happens 6 days after starting progesterone  (when they schedule the transfer for), but for some women, it could be 5 or 7 days instead. They suggest the ERA if you've had multiple failed transfers to see if its a receptivity timing issue. Unfortunately, the way they have to do it is to make you do a "mock" transfer, so take all the meds like you were preparing for a transfer but then, instead of transferring, you go in for a procedure where they scrape a small bit of lining and test it to tell if you are "pre-receptive" "receptive" or "post-receptive" and then they will adjust your protocol accordingly if they need to.
  • @kweavil - good luck with your upcoming transfer!
@ladyp0tter - 24 would be amazing!  I’ll keep my fingers crossed for lots of quality eggs!
@MooDaly - congrats on starting your transfer cycle!

AFM, I had an appointment this morning and the RE says everything is progressing well so far.  They scheduled my transfer date for Friday, Oct 9th.  If all goes according to plan, I will get my first beta in the 19th, which is the day before my 45th birthday.  I’m so excited for the upcoming weeks!
  • Hi All, latest update is our Donor triggered last night, and her retrieval is Saturday. We should find out Sunday how many they got and how many fertilized. They measured 37 follicles on Monday and Wednesday!! Monday only about 15 seemed to be "mature", but Wednesday there were more, so praying that the 24 - 30 range will be met!!

@MooDaly - I would share any info you want! I am an open book. My hubby and never started the IVF process thinking we would go down the DE route, but here we are. At first, with @Andream31 help, we both found the Prague clinic which would save us a lot of money compared to the states where we were planning on doing it on our own (we picked different donors), but her first cycle failed and Mine got canceled due to COVID. We had been talking about how much we are alike anyway in looks and personality (offline we became friends too), and it sortof just happened that we said, hey we should cycle together!! She found UFC in Utah and because of the split price, it made it much more affordable!! Still a bit more than Prague (and without the amazing trip), but the best part is we will hopefully each have more embryo's when this is all said and done than in Prague (which our clinic only guaranteed 2 - and they do NOT stim the girls there nearly as high, so very rarely do egg counts get that high). Here we are a few months later, a day away from retrieval with our Donor and we both have our transfer scheduled on Oct 29th!! We will meet for the first time on the 28th. Our hubby's met when they went to Utah to provide their samples on the same days!! :-)

  • UPDATE: Our donor got 26 Eggs, 24 were mature, so Andrea and I split 12 each. All 12 of hers fertilized, only 9 of mine did (and 1 questionable) - not sure what that means. So now the long wait to Thursday/Friday for blast results. I certainly was hoping for a bit more to work with than 24, but it was my minimum thought so I am still hopeful that I will end up with 4-5 embryos and hopefully her quality carries through again and they are all normal. I am betting Andrea ends up with 7-8 embryos based on her fertilization report!! ONE STEP CLOSER!! I have to go get some TSH bloodwork done today and then my baseline for the Transfer is next week!!

  • I am on 2mg estradiol 2x a day and a .1mg patch every 3 days. I find the morning one that I take with my prenatal makes me nauseous.  Usually eating something helps and then ginger/mint drops do as well.
  • Thank you @fuzzydust.  We are just praying that our donors eggs have the same great quality as her last cycle.  Thursday can hurry on up!

  • @ladyp0tter and @andreamm31 FX! 24 eggs with 21 of them fertilizing sounds like a dream but every step is nerve wrecking. Are you guys going to do any testing on them beforehand?

AFM, had my baseline today. Everything looks normal. A few fibroids but they aren’t near my lining to be a worry (says my tech). It’s so funny, normally when I go to see her for US, I’m so bloated and crappy feeling from all the stims but today I was all smiles. Going to start Aspirin tonight.

On the way home, my husband asked me if I wanted to take a trip after we’re done with the FET. What do you think? Should I try to find a nice AirBnB to shelter in during the TWW? I have no idea what to expect.

  • @ladyp0tter and @andreamm31 - Wow, 12 and 9 are such great numbers! Congratulations!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed for your test results.

@MooDaly - I think getting away is a great idea.  I did an AirBnB recently and it was a nice distraction from all of this.  I'm a bit paranoid, so when I arrived I disinfected the house and rewashed the sheets and towels but it was worth it.
  • Congrats @ladyp0tter and @andreamm31.  Great numbers and I hope your Thursday update is just as positive.

@MooDaly I highly recommend traveling during the TWW - it does wonders for the head games.  We are traveling during my presumed TWW for this cycle and I'm so thankful for that.

    Happy Birthday @JamieH2000 xoxo

Does anyone take a Vit D supplement pre FET?  I know it's good for fertility in general but wasn't sure if it is helpful for lining or whatever.  Right now I'm taking 10mg of estradiol/ day (3 oral/ twice; 2 vaginally/ twice) + patch and PNV.  I'm doing femoral massage 2-3 x day.  My lining check is Friday.

  • @laurad75 Yes!  Vitamin D is a huge one most women are deficient in that can impact fertility.  I found a combo D/K capsule, since I read that vitamin k can help increase absorption of the D.  Omg, you are getting so close!!!
  • @MooDaly, @laurad75, @late_bloomer - THANKS!! We are excited and NERVOUS!!

I would totally take a trip if I could. I am taking 3 sick days for the flight up and home from Utah for my FET so that will have to be my "trip"...lol.

@laurad75 - I started this cycle taking the D3 vitamin and glad I did, but just switched to a MUCH higher dose because I did 23&Me testing and found out that I have the inability to process Vit D from the sun. My numbers are on the low/average side in the 30's and they should be higher like in the 60's so I am now taking 2 5K pills a day until FET and then will drop down to 5K. I am happy I have @andreamm31 on my side as my personal nurse (she helped me with all this)!! She has been a lifesaver and a blessing in this process.

Hi everyone! Super nervous as this is my first post and first attempt at IVF. My husband and I have been TTC for 3 years and recently have been diagnosed with infertility. DH (36) has low sperm count and I (35) have myomas and mild endometriosis which is making for a not so fun combo. We are also Americans living in the Japanese countryside which adds an extra layer of terrifying to the entire experience.

Originally we planned to save the funds for the retrieval and start in Jan 2021, but my parents called this week and have decided to send us enough money to start the process. I am beyond grateful (and slightly petrified that I am wasting their money on grandchildren I may not be able to give them).  My clinic in Tokyo is ready to get everything started in October and while I was super excited while researching, I've been having moments of pure fear like I'm about to jump into a pool and I can't see the bottom.

I'm hoping that joining such a supportive group of ladies that understand will help this feel a little less surreal.
  • Thank you @MooDaly.  Our plan is to PGS test all of our embryos to make sure that we crossed all our t's and dot our i's.  Our donor has been proven to have great quality, but we need to be positive we know our embryos are normal.   I say go for the trip.  It will be so relaxing and healing to check out from life for a bit.   Do it!

    @late_bloomer thank you!

@laurad75. Yes, I take 5000 unit Vit D and my numbers are perfect! Literally just had them drawn today and im at 83.  I have the same genetic mutation as @ladyp0tter with inability to process Vit D from the sun.  Its super important for your immune system and preventing flu and covid to have adequate vit levels, so i highly suggesting taking 5000 a day.

  • @qtpie8711 - Welcome! IVF can be very stressful and I’m sure doing it in Japan adds an extra layer of complexity. The one thing that I like about doing IVF is knowing that I’m doing all I can to start my family.  No matter what happens, at least I’ll know I tried my best.  Joining this forum has helped me a lot.  I’m sure you will find plenty of women who will help answer your questions and provide moral support.  When’s your first appointment?

Thank you for the warm welcome! Telling myself that I'm trying my best is a good idea. I figured the process would be stressful, but I didn't expect to have anxiety before I started. I do feel much better about it today after doing more lurking on the forum last night.  ;) It definitely helped to relax my nerves.

So far we've done the initial testing, had a consultation and received the recommendation of IVF. The egg retrieval is scheduled for late October. I should start meds around the 20th. Oral medication for cycle day 1 and 2 and then on day 3 we're travelling to Tokyo for an injection practice session with the nurse, so I can do my injections from home. They usually hold a seminar to teach the couples together, but COVID screwed that up. After that I'm clueless lol.

Did you ladies do anything to prepare before your egg retrievals? I saw recommendations for everything from acupuncture to special diets and supplements. Not sure where to start.
